Just fought Boss Shadow Jago earlier, he is still the same
I couldn’t agree more. His aggressiveness really stands out. Also the shouting is on point.
My experience with Shago so far has been mixed. Even though it’s not the direction I would’ve taken him, I like the design with the cancellable teleports, teleport divekicks and so on. He has a lot of potential once the timings are figured out and you get the vortex rolling. On the other hand, I really don’t like juggle-based fighting games, as well as juggle-based characters in KI, and I absolutely despise Sadira - I prefer a strong grounded game. I also feel like his combo trait and Instict (the tether part) are incredibly underwhelming. I literally just fish for the “demon” with instinct on and have not found a great use for Instinct activation yet (other than the standard see what’s going on and react and said fishing). I will definitely be playing more of him, however.
I have to agree with this as well. I tend to avoid Tekken, MvC3, and similar types of games for this reason.
So far my thoughts on him are a little bit on the “Not as good as I had hoped for” side.
Im not saying its bad… but he isnt what I was expecting.
I feel his DP should have stayed at the sae angle as Jagos
His dive kick would be best if it was just like Kung lao’s from MK…now that would be awesome! lol
His fireballs are great! love that part!
His instinct is cool, but very technical and seemingly hard to use unless you really master it
Slide is great…very fast
Ultra and Ultimate are great…no issues there
dash teleport is great
dash into angle DP is OK… i like it when it lands and dislike it when i dash and nothing comes out
The Surge though… now this is the issue…its just way to easy to hit surge accidentally
Also…why does the dive kick sometimes open a combo and sometimes it doesnt? same with surge slide…it knocks them off there feet like an ender but doesnt open them up? I dont like that
Surge acts like training wheels for people who mash. It has really made me settle down and calculate my button presses. I do not want to waste that meter or leave myself punishable for free.

I have no idea about the surge slide, but with the dive kick, I would wager it depends on how high you are off the ground when you hit them. If you’re too high, their hitstun runs out before you land and so they can block the next attack, but if you hit them near their ankles, like you would in SF with a lot of divekicks, you can combo. Don’t have time to get into training mode right now though to confirm.
That, and depending on how far away you land from them you may have to manual off of it rather than go into auto-doubles. Far heavy kick works well for this.
Shadow Jago needs his evil voice saying that I miss verry much: “Im afraid your path ends here”!
Yes I know Jago has it, but I miss it on the original Shadow Jago v1 and his wind kick move. Can we get and alt version of Jago to have his evil voice with blue fireballs??
Nah, I prefer Shadow Jago and Jago being completely different, rather than Shago just being an edgy version of Jago who’s trying to convince his parents “it’s not a phase!”

He does have plenty of growly vocals in his normal gameplay anyway. So he still has the evil voice. And since they both tend to be unsafe, Ninja Slide>Wind Kick imo.
I’ve changed my mind, I like Shadow Jago and the new UI. It’s also easy to manual with him which is a big plus. The only thing I don’t like now is his throw since it does little damage and it looks tacky.
But it knocks them down? you cant open them up because they are not standing
Dive Kick doesn’t knock 'em down. The Back-HK axe kick does bounce them though.
If you meant far heavy kick, do the standing version, not the sweep, and it should leave them standing.
Need clarification. My brain isn’t always on full power when I’m at school. ![]()
yes it does… ive done it several times…the slide too
Weird, I’ve opened almost all of my combos with the dive kick. ![]()
As long as you don’t surge it, slide should be fine…
@Infilament, please clarify for us on this issue, good sir. ![]()
Too early to have a real MU number yet, but at first blush I’m guessing it’s probably a 5-5, though perhaps slightly in Shago’s favor (I leave it at 5-5 b/c real men use integers in MU breakdowns
).
The problem at present is really just that his surges and teleport shenanigans all throw off Hisako counter timing. It is quite possible to read that Shago will do something, hit counter, and then watch as Shago’s “something” teleports him to the opposite side of you for a divekick, and now you’re getting hit because your counter is done and going into recovery frames. Shago’s surges are largely meant to be reactable, which means that there is enough delay for a human opponent to respond and block appropriately. That delay mixes poorly with Hisako players a bit however, as we tend to react with counter on a hair trigger. That quick preemptive counter gets you hit a lot when fighting Shago I’ve found. He also has a lot of options in general to throw off things like normal anti-airs.
A lot of the current difficulty in the MU though I think is pretty overcome-able. Shago can’t really crack Hisako’s counter (as he’s not a particularly projectile-based character), he just throws off the timing just enough that countering is difficult. As the match-up becomes more mature I think a lot of this difficulty will decrease, and Shago will have to respect her more or less the same way everyone else does.
So yeah - I’m calling Shago/Hisako 5-5 at present.
I’m not Infil, but normal dive kick is always combo-able on a grounded opponent (who isn’t armored or anything). The kick bounces Shago off, but even at extreme bounce range you can get a stagger-kick overhead to connect, which allows you to then manual into a full combo. Surge divekick drops you down right in front of your opponent and you can go straight into AD’s, ditto for shadow dive kick.
Normal slide is combo-able, surge slide bounces the opponent up. This is the case b/c surge slide is a kind of insane mixup, and Shago definitely shouldn’t be able to use it freely to confirm into a full combo. He’s already a bit all over the place - it’d be even worse if he had extra incentive to surge slide all the time. Shadow slide combos normally also.
Thanks, for clarifying @STORM179
You’re supposed to combo off his throw, you can get 70%+ damage off his throws.
I Like Shadow Jago, but I feel it hard to do massive damage without Tons of meter. Maybe I’m spoiled by Jago. LOL
