Some good ideas! Especially the retro stage. Honestly, if they put together maybe five retro stages and made them look all new and pretty, that’d go a long way for me.

The retro costume refining… I personally feel that they need to do that regardless. I know DH handled the season one retros, but this is all one game, regardless of the seasonal content delivery. We’re all seeing it as a single product when we’re looking at it on our screens, and the variance in quality on some of them, especially Sabrewulf, Orchid and Fulgore is more than a little jarring. It’s actually rather disappointing.

As for characters, I’m sure we’ll get Kim Wu, Tusk and Gargos. Not quite as sure on Eyedol. I floated the idea of him being a “beta” character that IG worked on all year and refined and what not, and when the season was over, he was to be finalized and considered tournament viable. Only then would people that didn’t get ultra pack have a chance to purchase him for $5, while ultra pack buyers would get him for free. I still think that’s a good idea, though I seem to be in the minority.

Appologies for any spelling mistakes in the below, rather long, post

I agree with you on your Eydol concept of having him in beta and IG refine/tune him all season then as part of the ultra edition he’s free but for Combo Breaker purchasers he’s $5 or equivalent pricing.

For what I’d want to see? No costumes/accessories. Now, for those who know me, they’ll understand the reasoning behind this. For those who don’t, I have no vision whatsoever and as much as I believe these items should be available to everyone to use if they so wish, I believe it took up far too much of Season 1 and 2’s costs to purchase the Ultra editions. When I bought the complete bundle, having all the characters from seasons 1 and 2, only purchasing for KI 1 and 2 classic, I paid for those two games + the costumes and accessories. At the price it was on sale for, it was reasonable, but looking at the price now, if someone was in that same situation and it wasn’t on sale, I’d say it’s probably not worth it unless you are really good at the original games.

Maybe the costumes could just be included as part of the Combo Breaker pack instead, with the following ideas for S3:

  1. Killer Cuts: Killer Instinct Legacy edition.

This gives you the ability to download all of Killer instinct’s soundtracks from Season 1, 2 and 3, in addition to (if the composers are willing to provide it) the ability to download the master stems from the tracks for remixing purposes.

  1. All 3 seasons revamped with a story mode with proper voice acting, more music and sound design.

Season 2’s story mode, from the perspective of a player with no vision, was a near total flop. Yes, there were narrated cutscenes, but only 3 of those per character. They couldn’t even bother to play the loading sound within the text/visual sequences to let a blind/VI player know the game was loading, making it very tricky to tell if, say, the game had crashed.

Revamping all 3 seasons to bring them in line (as they are doing now with the backstories) would mean that you could then use the actors who voiced the characters (or if character’s can’t speak, narration would be acceptable, or verbalise the character’s thoughts via a different voice) and accurately portray KI as a high-quality experience. Moreover, the voice acting of rival fights (Kan-Ra and Aganos, Fulgore and TJ, etc) would allow those who can’t see, as well as deaf individuals with the correct subtitling, to appreciate the work that goes into the crafting of the universe.

  1. Updated retro stages with updated music.

As much as we have the new stages with Mick’s interwoven legacy that make the game feel like it does, I believe a touch of nostalgia for the 90s would be interesting for the game. All that would need to be done would be to use stereo versions of the old tracks (even with newer instruments as well), to update the entirety of a classic theme, not just the idol theme.

They wouldn’t have to bring every stage back, but in particular, Sabrewulf’s KI1 stage and Jago’s Ki2 stage strike me as good musical examples of ones that would still potentially fit into the game if updated correctly.

  1. A code to download a development diary/collectors book, electronically in an accessible format (so you don’t have to go through the publishers and deal with all the hassle that involves).

This would allow people to read into how the game was created and what processes are involved in making a game like this so unique.

  1. One last thing: Audio skins.

This doesn’t necessarily have to be exclusive to the ultra edition. How about allowing you to choose your character select theme, your menu theme, etc on top of your ability to choose your announcer as you can currently. Moreover, characters such as Jago, Fulgore and others could have skins with different sounds that you could choose from, with some being deliberately serious and some being overtly comedic. This would make the costumes aspect that so many have enjoyed/loathed carry over into the audio and potentially make mirror matches less frustrating. Many times i’ve lost just due to a simple lack of identification between my Fulgore and the one that is beating me to scrap.

If I think of anything else, I’ll edit/post it.

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t particularly need the masters for remixing, but that’s just me. The music itself though, either available to play in game or perhaps some deal with iTunes or something like that (or both), would be great.

I agree that the overall quality, while certainly on the right track versus the first season, could still go further both in terms of voice acting and overall sound / ambiance / tone. I’m not saying that we need Mortal Kombat X levels of story and cutscenes and what not. I’m trying to be realistic. But I do think that there’s an even better balance than what they’ve achieved so far, and I’d like to see them push that envelope a little more in season 3. I don’t expect them to go back to season’s one and two and adjust them, but it’d be a very welcome upgrade, especially for season one.

It’s somewhat difficult to look at the story in season one versus season two. I’m still trying to get used to the idea that some ideas are meant to be applied to KI as a full game experience, while some are meant to be taken within the seasonal approach. The story of the game seems to fall in to the latter, which is a shame.

It seems as though they’re trying to fill in the gaps with these new bios that they’re releasing, which is great actually, and I certainly appreciate it. But it’d be great if there were more unity in terms of the style in which the story is told in the game, even if I’d still love for the bios to exist as well.

All that said, I tend to doubt that they’ll revisit past seasons beyond what they’re doing (which is definitely better than nothing) and if they did, I doubt it’d be an ultra pack exclusive type of thing.

I personally wouldn’t need or even want every retro stage, and I’m sure that’d be a logistical nightmare for IG, so we agree on that. I also agree that some classic stages should return. Granted, some of them are a bit on the plain side by today’s standards, so I wouldn’t mind seeing them add some details here and there. I’d also like to see them redo the music with modern technology, recording equipment, instruments, etc. Do what was done before, but just make it sound better.

If they did that for maybe five stages, or perhaps two packs (one for KI1 and one for KI2) with four stages each (if I can get extremely greedy here), I think that’d be awesome. Honestly, that alone would make it worth the upgrade for the Ultra pack for me!

I’d probably pick:

KI1 Pack
Jago - Tiger Shrine Stage
Cinder - Desert Stage
Orchid - Rooftop Stage
Sabrewulf - Fireplace Stage

KI2 Pack
Gargos - Castle Stage
Kim Wu - Shrine Stage
Spinal - Pirate Ship Stage
Sky Plate Stage

How can I forget about Cinder’s stage… That had a very interesting lead sound that I’ve always wondered how they created it. Come to think of it, anyone know how the original music was created for the first two games? It’d be interesting to see if there was a software emulation of it around anywhere or if the hardware still exists.

I don’t actually recall the sky plate stage, could you fill me in on that one?

Maybe sky “plate” is a little misleading. That’s the term for it that I found on Gamefaqs, but it’s really just the Sky Stage, which I believe was a bonus stage in KI2 (if I recall correctly).

I think that there could be a good deal of refining to this stage in terms of detail both on the level plate itself (or floor or whatever we want to call it) as well as the rolling sky. The checkerboard look could certainly give way to something more ornate and compelling, especially given that it wouldn’t need to be a 3D background.

It’d be risky though. Doing a stage where the background is mainly sky. It’d have to be filled with a bit more going on, but I could really see some amazing detail done on a rolling sky that could make this look amazing.

KI2 has some really good backgrounds and I can’t really think of any that I’d be overly against. Orchid’s military installation stage with the helicopter and Fulgore’s stage would also be great ideas. I always seem to recall Tusk’s Stonehenge background as well when I think of KI2.

I think that there are a lot of possibilities in both games. I almost said Riptor’s stage for the first KI because it always seemed really cool and kinda eerie to me. Also love both of Sabrewulf’s stages, especially the music. Probably my favorite from both games, as they had such an epic feel to them.

Really, if they came out and said that the bonus stuff for the Ultra Pack was just a good number of redone backgrounds, I’d be happy. Anyone on top of that, like bonus accessories or the highly unlikely Season one reimagined story mode (which I’d still like to see regardless) would be gravy as far as I’m concerned.

I agree with what you’re saying. I’m glad you described the stage, as I literally can’t see the picture

I could definitely see the sky stage being redone though I can’t find a theme for the stage in my very brief looking on youtube. Wasn’t their talk of including the “knock off” announcements etc in an update at some point as well? Maybe sky stage could come back anyway?

No problem. I couldn’t find the stage music either. I’ll have to try out some KI2 when I get home from work tonight and see if I can’t get to that stage. I want to say that it was just the sound of wind blowing and no actual music, though I could be completely 100% wrong on that, as my memory is a bit limited in that regard.

As for the music, I think I’ve just found it

Here, This is a video of KI2’s Skyboard I recorded. II recorded the music, and uploaded it to Youtube, but Unlisted. Song, Danger, and End all in one. But it’s very short.

Thanks for doing that, at least we’ve confirmed that what I found was correct.

Only reason why it’s so short is because there’s hardly anything to it

For the most part yes. I made it short, because the first part of it continuously loops like that. So, while it might be for a cool stage, I’d like an updated version of the music, if they are ever going to remake this stage.
