What is Your "Uuugh" Character in KI?

Idk honestly, I don’t fight too many Eyedols that try and grab during shadow meteors so I’ve never felt the need to try and lab it out. Definitely will try and see though

Shadow meteors not an overhead, also not a true block string (which is why Eyedol can teleport and you get hit), which means you can be grabbed.

Pro tip: if Eyedol is ever close to you, just DP. Even if he blocks, you get hit in the air by meteors for 3% or so and he has to do a low-damage juggle combo or obvious recapture. If you hit him, the trade is way in your favor.

Close to you when he is in instinct you mean?

So how do you know if it is a true block string or not? What does that mean exaclty? Is there a gap in the block stun allowing the grab or does block stun just not present during this “string”?

I was under the impression if you are blocking something you cant be grabbed unil out of block stun.
Thanks for the tips

“True block string” refers to multiple hits where you don’t return to neutral in between the hits, and instead are forced to block all of it. That means you can take your hand off the stick and your character will auto-block all the hits for free. An example of such a move is Maya’s back + HP 4-hit target combo thing.

If you are blocking a true block string, in KI that means you can’t be hit by any overheads or crossups (your character will auto-block the correct direction for free, even if you aren’t holding that direction). It means you can’t be thrown, and it means you can’t take any actions like doing a dragon punch or mashing a normal. This is why Mira can’t mix you up while you are blocking shadow bats (it’s a true block string). She has to wait until the last hit finishes to try a mixup.

If you are NOT blocking a true block string (that is, if the attack has “gaps” where you return to neutral before you block again), you can be grabbed (and also tech, if possible), you can reversal, and you can be hit by high/low or left/right mixups.

Ahh…makes sense. SO even tough you can be grabbed out of Eyedol’s shadow meteor…the timing can be tight? SO best to block it out but be on your toes for possible grab or over head?

The timing is tight yeah, but probably not so tight that the Eyedol player will miss that much if they’ve practiced it a bit. And even if they miss you might not be ready to punish because you’ll be blocking meteors.

I think the mixup around shadow meteors is not really that scary. I would rather Eyedol waste 1 bar + 6 seconds of his instinct time to try a mixup that might only land him 4%… that sounds way preferable to him doing massive chip damage with regular attacks and opening me up with his normal instinct. If I see Eyedol get close to me with shadow meteors on the screen, I am doing a DP almost all the time (especially if the DP takes me off the ground), because the risk reward is way in my favor there.

If you choose to block it out and you’re really scared, try taking the meteor hit in the air on purpose by holding up. Eyedol will have to recapture you with a breakable move (this combo is fairly droppable because of the funky way meteors can bounce you around), or else maybe try to juggle you (if he has no meter because he just spent one, then he can’t cash out). You don’t have to worry about taking too much damage here, and again, all the time Eyedol spends juggling you is time wasted from his instinct. You’ll probably get away with taking 20% or less on an 8-10 second long combo and maybe he spends both of his meters, which is like a super win vs. Eyedol’s ridiculous instinct as far as I’m concerned.

As always when you play fighting games, first figure out how much damage you took from the mixup before worrying too much about how hard it is to block or avoid. I find this especially true in KI because a lot of the balancing of the cheap mixups happens with lower damage (Shago, Eyedol, Rash tongue, etc).

What should I do as a Sadira main? I can’t DP. If I don’t have meter, I’m pretty much screwed.

Hold up… you are good at that! lol

Eh. I’d recommend blocking it out, at least if the Eyedol is very good. Delta murdered me when we played for taking the meteors in the air

IF ONLY I’D KNOWN SHADOW METEORS AREN’T OVERHEADS :confounded:

So he’s actually not a pit. (I grew up with a pit mix, love them to bits.)

He’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Which is a breed that was bred to hunt lions.

So imagine what happens when he sees a cat. :expressionless:
