Vote KI for EVO Here

Wow I got a lot of likes. Wasn’t expecting that lol. Pokemon is huge and Nintendo will probably support it. Without Xbox’s help, we aren’t big enough to win this.

I totally missed this thread, will go back and have a read.
Also I don’t think I’ve ever seen a thread move this fast, real time replies and everything! :open_mouth:

2 hours. That is how much time KI will have allocated to it as Evo’s opening Sunday Top 8.

If KI makes it through this donation event, it will be a “main” game. And KI will presumably be the only title played on Xbox…unless Injustice or Tekken end up running better on the X1.

Think of Evo, and the KIWC, as a showcase of sorts. It is a HUGE (in the case of Evo) ad for the game and the community. Last year KI got the top spot on Saturday…after a HORENDOUS (my opinion) Pokken top 8 that took like 3 hours…but I digress.

Certain wheels are already in motion sure, but like someone else said, Evo is the Superbowl of the FGC, and getting that large of a crowd watching and interested in the game only serves to entice more people into playing.

KI won’t be on ESPN…unless something CRAZY happens. SFV will probably be the only Top 8 shown on ESPN, but other games have made the highlight reel for the over all Evo event. Like @MDMMORNING said though, ESPN is inconsequential to this immediate discussion.

So until there was a giant protest Nintendo went out of their way to avoid support for competitive smash. They took the stance that the game was meant to be played casually.

Also MS is supporting KI, the game is free for gold and I’ve personally seen a huge increase in the player base this month. I’ve seen KI ads in the meld on plenty of occasions.

Edit: season 2 is free for gold. For those who will nitpick.

We need to win this, this is the proving grounds for ki and if we don’t win this we might as well call this community dead. Winning this is huge for us, this shows to everyone we are alive, we are strong, we a willing to fight for are spot, we are a community. We need to show that a new season isn’t what we need to stay alive, we can get in without it. If we don’t it shows ki is nothing without a new season. We need prove that we can hang with the big dogs, that we deserve respect. So Ki let’s win this

I don’t understand what you mean by this.

The only KI ad I’ve ever seen (that wasn’t on a MS platform) was the dude holding up the “When’s KI?” sign in the crowd during SFV Top 8 on ESPN last year.

It’s possible I’ve missed some, I’m not a big TV/billboard guy.

It is this nonsense spouting that kills communities, not missing a few hours on EVO Sunday.

Please stop touting a blatant fallacy before it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many of our top players are trying to kill our game w/ this garbage as is, don’t be part of their trickle-down poisoning of the well.

Let’s not fixate on early leads just yet. Our goal as a community is to get to a similar marker as the previous EVO donations and our own community fund of $100k. We’ll be competitive if we can reach those markers.

this wont be the death knell for KI.

No more content would be.

Majority of money made by a game are general audiences…guess what, there aren’t millions upon millions of people watching evo. The general audience that pays for games and expansions dont watch tournaments.

Having a Season 4, 5 with great content, and dlc in between would do more for KI than EVO would… atleast from a sales/business POV.

SOme of the highest selling games are games with lots of content, updates, expansions, etc. (and they are higher than any pro level games that have tournaments - mainly casual sports, rpgs, etc)

Sanjay

It was an over asageration I didn’t actually mean it like that, ki will still go strong for years to come.

While I may not agree with every game that gets selected to be at EVO this isn’t going to kill KI in anyway.

As @TheKeits has been saying on Twitter as of recently if we don’t make it to EVO that just means we gotta make the tournaments that will give KI an opportunity in the spotlight like Combo Breaker that much bigger. We have to make KIWC as big of an event as possible.

I agree with you @MDMMORNING on that particular statement, but I also agree with @TheRealMil on the sentiment that this victory will show the fgc that we support our game!

here’s a question to ponder:

If MS had announced a Season 4 (with 8 characters, more stages, etc) and even further support into S5, do people think then KI would have made it into the pre selection games for EVO?

Regards,

Sanjay

I don’t think so. This is of course speculation but I think much of what goes into the decision process is tournament attendance and stream viewership. Which is why melee is a shoe in and KI got relegated to a charity drive vote. I don’t think so much has to do with date of last content release, also on that note KI just released Kilgore and announced that there would be 2 more characters. This isn’t a secret.

I know, and I guess it’s one thing here on the forums where we’re all pretty dedicated fans that aren’t going anywhere, but we’ve got top players spewing this garbage on social media, and their little ducklings follow along and spew the same garbage.

If the most accessible info you have about a game you’re trying to get into is “don’t bother, the game is dead or dying,” - are you actually going to get invested in the game? Or are you just gonna go play SF instead?

It’s a rhetorical question, but representative of reality. That sort of talk drives people away, and just because you’re only a drop in the bucket doesn’t mean that your voice doesn’t matter. A tidal wave is comprised of tiny drops just like you, and if they’d all use that drop of a voice to promote positivity instead… you see where I’m going w/ this.

I’ll say this, I think it would help if we can some form of content hint/teaser within this 2 week period whether its for a new character, new season, or ultimates. We need to get back and rally the KI hardcore and casuals.

Will this actually make a difference? Will this actually secure KI to be in EVO? Or is it just an attempt made by people who have no influence on what games get to EVO?

this is official. its a charity drive sort of thing
