I havent seen any big names doing any promotion here or on facebook. I havent checked twitter. Its people that dont even attend nor participate that pushing this the hardest. That tells you enough right there.
And I dont mean some tweet about #voteki. I mean really pushing it, making a video, ect..
I want to see some real promotion from the guys that will benefit from Ki being at EVo… Im waiting.
I suppose Bass isn’t a big name to you? He streamed immediately after the announcement yesterday fundraising for this. Kiets, Brandon Alexander, Sleep, PaulB, Max? Are these not big names?
I’m sorry your statement is just plain wrong. And saying such things does nothing but add pessimism where it doesn’t belong.
BTW for guys wondering if Max will do a donation stream for KI…I doubt it. He said it was a hard choice to even send $200 to KI considering the other games on the list, I doubt he has that strong a bias to donate literally like $7000 on a stream lol
I’d also say the people who would donate on his stream are the same KI fans who are likely to donate anyways. There will certainly be some exceptions but it would mostly be preaching to the choir so it isn’t really necessary.
I like Bass, Im not talking about just Bass…Max has posted a video yet? Sleeps cool too…has he posted a video yet?
Im not talking about the big 4. Im talking about all the others
I’m sorry I took your first post literally. My interpretation was based on you saying “I haven’t seen any” which doesn’t seem to imply the “Big 4” are exempt.
Most of the players you refer to have never frequented these forums. I can’t say that I blame them these forums are littered with hyperbole and misinformation.
I agree and disagree with your post. I mean there are some “big names” who may be able to spur a lot / some of support, but it shouldn’t be all on them to do something. We are all a part of this community, so we all have to do our part.
And yeah, @DeathBlooms2K8 is correct that people were streaming right after the announcement. Even at this moment, Bass is streaming on twitch with the #voteki hashtag.
The problem isn’t really that the KI community isn’t / won’t try, I think it is that we have to extend our reach outside of the core crowd, into the more casual space to try and entice people there. I have NO clue what to do to do that, but that is the only way I see being able to reach the ultimate goal.
And about Max specifically, he doesn’t have to, and I don’t think he should be expected to, shoulder the KI community’s hopes and dreams. Sure he is an uber fan like most of us here, and yeah he has an big audience who consumes his stuff on YT, but he also loves many of the other games on the list, and seeing as he is a part of most of those communities too, I think it is pretty understandable for him not to make some overt plea for JUST KI in order to get it in the line up.
These forums are much more mature and informed than the dreaded facebook groups.
But its all good man.. I hope KI makes it and I hope those that will actually attend EVO and compete help make that happen. Not all the die hards that cant go supporting it for them.
Some of the pros don’t show up here, and that is fine, but why should support someone who doesn’t show up here. Refers to me and people like me as Scrub, Noob, or Yolo player. I was told that I know nothing of the competitive KI scene, and don’t know what in am talking about. Now those same people want me to donate my money to help them?
If you’re bitter towards them because of how they treated you I respect and support your decision to not contribute your money to something they may benefit from.
I would say that in my opinion that is somewhat of a narrow minded perspective. To have the game you love showcased in the arena of Evo will have a larger impact than just possibly providing prize money to someone you dislike.
Remember the arena at Evo gets an insane amount of viewership it’s broadcast on ESPN. This is a massive marketing opportunity for KI. One that could further contribute to it’s success and popularity which could have long lasting implications like a larger more diverse player base, a bigger budget moving forward so more development can go towards the things that interest you specifically.
In short your donation here isn’t necessarily a direct deposit into the pockets of people you dislike. Actually it’s literally a direct deposit to a well known charity.
Why are you making this a personal thing? Why do people make this personal in general? KI being at Evo isn’t about the “Pros”, it is about the game itself, and helping the community in an effort to see it continue to grow and succeed.
Now, I get the argument that some people make that tournaments don’t do that much to spur more exposure for the game in the grand scheme of things, but as far I can tell it still does A LOT to get / keep the game’s name out there.
Do you realize how many news outlets picked up the story of how the Smash community raised close to $100,000 in charity for Evo 2 (or so) years ago?
Do you realize how many outlets covered the story of how the KI community raise $100,000 for the first KI Community Fund?
Again, KI being at Evo DOES benefit the competitors of that tournament, but it also can help promote the KIWC, the coming Season 4 (if it is coming), and just the game’s future in general.
Edit: What @DeathBlooms2K8 said. Sorry if I come of harsh, or like an ***, sometimes I just can’t be as eloquent as others.
