wonderful of brandon alexander to drop so much cash on the game to make it into EVO, but i also think he should save it and do something else with that money. also, its my opinion that marvel 3 should not even been on the list to donate to. as much as a junkheap of a game that marvel is, it really is a mainstay at EVO. people love to see the shenanigans and eye melting 1 touch death combos because its hype. they shouldve replaced marvel with the new KOF to vote on
Mkx had 2 years a Evo, the deadline for NRS games. WB and NRs supported their game by sponsoring tournaments and other things. They even tweeted to try and get mkx into Evo I wonder did Microsoft do this for ki.

I think Brandon should save it too. It’s not EVO that we need to make sure we stay relevant. We got KIWC, as well as other tourneys like Combo Breaker and CEO that treat KI with the up most respect. I wish that Brandon would save if for KIWC or something else for KI. Not EVO. That’s a lot of money to just drop, and if we don’t win? Sure, it’s going to charity, but man…
I really hope if KI makes it to EVO, it’s not because one or a couple people dumped a huge amount of money on it. It’d make KI’s presence over those other games feel unearned and fake IMO, and I’d rather that money be spent on supporting KI elsewhere.

He hasn’t done anything yet. I would also bet that he will not give any money unless it will put KI in the spot. If KI is down by 20,000, I don’t picture him giving any money.
@OregonPacifist. Just because MKX had only a few donations does not mean the fan base is gone. MK does not need the EVO fan base to sell games. NRS has a new game to show off “not that they need EVO for these either” IT would be the same if IG made a new fighting game, they would want to show that off instead of KI.

Brandon seems like a great guy. But he says lots of bold things in twitter. I don’t know that he’s ACTUALLY planning to donate $10,000. If he is, then wow. There’s more money in running an arcade than I thought and good for him. If he’s not, then that’s fine with me. I wouldn’t count on him doing it. According to his Twitter he’s having a bit of a rough time about something right now so I think he gets a pass.
But, everyone saying he should save his money - remember that he would be giving $10k to Make a Wish. That’s still a pretty great thing to do.
I don’t believe that everyone needs to give all their money to charity but the statement that he shouldn’t waste his money (on fulfilling the wishes of sick and dying children) and instead use it to host better arcade game tournaments is… off-putting.

He shouldn’t have to put in 10 grand to “save KI”. That’s just too much with nothing really notable in return except that it went to a charity. You dont drop Gs unless you can really afford it and have expendable income of over 10 Gs a month or so…which is unlikely.

I wonder if there’s any difference between donating through this Evo initiative and just donating directly.
MKX sells and multi console helps but don’t be delusional to think that the millions of casual gamers bought it due to Evo. It sells cause highest presentation value of any fighting game, great grapbics, content & story, and violence. People have fun doing fatalities (especially when drinking a bit).
Evo does not translate to actual gamers playing. Only small percentage of ppl go to tournaments. There are prob just as many casual ppl who play MKX each week for fun as SFX, maybe even more.

Actually as far as I can tell you don’t get an IRS receipt so your donation through this is not tax deductible. Which matters a lot if your dropping 10 grand.

I’m not sure actually. I don’t have one yet, but it may be that Make a Wish will send a confirmation that you donated with the appropriate info once they get the money from IndieGoGo. They might even send it in November or December, as I’ve seen that happen before. But I’m not counting on it. Truthfully, unless you are giving a very large donation it’s a minimal issue. But the IRS compiles statistics about giving and I’m sort of anal that way.
It also speaks to whether or not you are better off just giving directly to a charity of your choice since it’s looking pretty certain that KI won’t win.
So yeah, if you want to throw in $10 it’s not even worth getting a receipt. For $100 or a few hundred it’s worth it to ask but not complain. If anyone is contemplating $1000+ donation then it will likely make a real difference.
My problem with this donation drive is that it’s based off of money raised, not by how many people actually donated. What if Marvel busts their butts off to raise money with all of their donors and then say, someone with generously deep pockets puts in enough money to shame what the Marvel community came up with? I have a sneaking suspicion that this charity drive isn’t exactly all that it’s cracked up to be but I’m not going to go around spreading rumors or what not.
Also in regards to this. If KI doesn’t make it to Evo, then I fully believe that the KI community should give up on Evo cold-turkey and support Combo Breaker and KIWC moreso and make those THE high priority tournaments to attend. Combo Breaker is great as they’ll give us good stream time (not this 8am bullpoop, which is always the worst time because who wants to wake up after playing/partying all night? Only the KI heads would show up to support it anyways.) They’ve already given us a platform for fun things like the Saucey Suites and exhibition matches! I mean, the tournament is named Combo Breaker for crying out loud! Plus I think it’d be a great honor to @TheKeits legacy of running UFGT to go and show better support for Combo Breaker. TheHadou has consistently put out the best experience for both casual and competitive people for what, 2 years now?
Before this charity drive even began, I was already going to skip Evo in favor of Combo Breaker anyways just because I really do not like the Evo experience anymore. I felt it in 2014 and sure as hell felt it in 2016. It just doesn’t feel like an event that cares about supporting fighting games as a genre anymore more so than it is a platform to make Mr Wizard money but that’s just MY personal opinon.
Sure, I’ll always support KI being at any and all tournaments, but I honestly believe that whether or not KI makes it to Evo this year, we should (as a community) focus on the events that already are honored to have us there and not force it’s fans to grovel at the feet of the tournament organizers.
