The Replay and Analysis Thread

Last set we had was on October 5. You only sent me one message since which is on the 7th which is me being promoted in the APC. I don’t have you message you to play or invite you. If you want to play against me, just shoot me a message. I usually agree unless I am busy or something.
@Dayv0 Working on the feedback. Yesterday I said tomorrow. Well today is tomorrow. I took lessons from Iron Galaxy on wha tomorrow means though Kappa

Majority of times I asked you to play you turned me down so I stopped asking and whenever we did play you would leave just after a few matches without a word…

Let’s not derail this into “no invitations” please.

This thread is for discussion about matches, not about matchmaking guys.

Drop it, and focus on the analysis. Thank you kindly

hey, could you guys check this match out, it was when I fought ignant rizzy on his livestream, I won, but I think I was a bit rusty with Orchid, any advice?

Those few times were what I call “angry” times. Trust me, you wouldn’t have wanted me to stay - it wouldn’t have been beneficial for either of us.

I can’t see the video unless I go to YouTube? Aw, man! :unamused:

let me know when you do

I was just making a statement in regards to Geek saying nobody really reaches out to him…I’m not derailing anything(couldn’t care less about invites) I just wanted to chime in on that little piece.(back into the shadows I go✌)

I know man, no problem

Yeah, this is something I do a lot. Too much in fact. It’s the same reason I lose to a lot of people. I need to be more confident in my blocking so I’m not getting hit by resets. I should probably Parry those too. Free dragons, and a possible opening.

Heh…might not want to argue too strongly about what works and doesn’t when you’re missing key definitional concepts. “Meaty” in this context simply means to have your attack out onto the opponent as he’s rising or otherwise coming out of recovery. Agaonos’ st.LK (or any button) used in this manner will counter hit an opponent’s attempt to push a button or throw, because they will be hit in the start-up frames before their own attack is truly “out”. That is how your st.LK pressure should generally be used, and it will always beat out a throw or any other non-invincible reversal.

I was talking about all of your matches that I’ve seen, which includes many of your clips and times that I’ve seen you play in lobbies and such. Not all of my impression of your play come from our matches - I’ve seen you play in a decent amount of different situations over the years.

Usually I play online but the very first few matches are terrible because I’m nervous. I’m still cold, maybe it has been some days I haven’t played KI, so my hands shake and my gameplay is terrible. Same happens if a friend call me for a few matches, the first ones are terrible because I’m nervous since a close friend is watching me play instead of an internet random.

After a few matches the shakiness stops and I feel more relaxed. My best play is around 3 or 4 matches after the first.

So my tip is, when playing to record a match for analysis, don’t record the first match. You want to play casually with whoever you’re playing and ignore the first few matches where you’re getting used to the feeling of being analyzed.

Don’t just pick your best match though, because you’re trying to fix errors so the bad matches are worth analyzing. Only ignore the first few where you don’t believe you’re yourself and from then on all replays will be analyzed. It’s also good to track how many matches it takes for you to feel confident you’re playing as you always play, ideally you want this number to eventually reach zero.

Remember that being nervous is also something worth fixing. It’s no use to play well when you’re at your peak performance if you can’t reach that peak performance easily. I’ve seen someone here say that, when nervous, you revert back to your “default” performance, usually meaning the default mistakes. Those are the mistakes that make you feel worse because you know you can do better than that.

To fix default mistakes you have to incorporate good habits in your arsenal. To incorporate good habits the only way is to repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat…

But that’s what I’m always trying to do, and it never works!

And regardless of what you’ve seen, I know that virtually nobody here has ever seen me while I’m “in the zone” and at my best. It’s a rare thing, but I’m fully aware of my potential because of it.

That’s Rizzy? I’ve just started watching his content (and fair warning, if you’re offended by language and n-bombs, you might not like his stuff) and i thought he was a Hisako player in KI.

Guess for me, the only thing i really noticed was a quick trigger for a reversal or breaker. Granted, there were a couple of opener - enders there, but most other times you broke on the first opportunity. With the reversal, just seemed pretty quick to hit DP. Honestly, that’sabout it.

It’s kinda whitewash since the Rash didn’t do much to capitalize on that stuff.

It works Geek, but you are not doing it properly [quote=“GalacticGeek, post:73, topic:16350”]

There is a simple way to see this: record yourself when you have one of these matches. Record several of them. Post them here.

And still, we could find holes in your gameplan that maybe a more skilled could take advantage. Or not I may be wrong! But if you post it, we can see if you have that potential

It does work. If it’s not working then you are mistiming it. There are training mode exercises you can do to practice your meaty timing, if you are interested.

As far as being nervous and not playing well, I can understand. If you want, a better way to give us matches for feedback would be to just simply play online normally until you run into a tough opponent who beats you, then record that replay after the fact, so you never have the stress of putting on a performance at the time. That would require you to upload stuff though, so I guess it’s out of the question. Have you tried streaming at low bit rate with the Xbox twitch app? Just set your twitch account to save the archives, then stream the replay as you watch it and go offline. That seems like a super painless way to do it, if you can stream at super low quality (which nobody would care about).

As for “I have matches where I play real good, you just never see them,” that’s true of pretty much every player. It’s great to aspire to make that level your consistent level, but it’s also a mistake to think that at what you presume is your peak, you aren’t making mistakes. A lot of the time, what you perceive is your peak is really just your opponent running into silly stuff a lot. So I can agree with Dayvo that, if you are interested, you should post some of those super strong replays online, and see what information we can extract from them.

it was from the first match, the other two he crushed me with hisako

As others have said, if it Isn’t working, it’s because you’re mistiming it. Practice mode can help you with that. Record the dummy doing mash jab, knock it down with your setup of choice, and then practice hitting it meaty as it’s getting up.

As to how none of us has ever seen you at your absolute best, I believe you. Aside from perhaps Ostrich and Dul, I’d actually say the same about myself, KIPL appearances very much included. The pinnacle of our play is often pretty rare, which is why our real goal in all this is more to bring up the floor of our play. You don’t want to have to be playing immaculately to get your wins; a big part of why we practice is so that our “bad” play is tight enough to get the victory.

A few things that’ll be pretty obvious:

I’m very bad at breaking mira

I don’t know how to deal with bats

i realized during the matches that i can dp when bass mists straight up on wakeup but for some reason never actually did it.

Only saw the first half of the video, good matches, but it seems like you’re a little too conservative with your meter. While I get that you’ll want to keep Fulgore stocked up on pips you spend the majority of the second half of the matches just sitting on two full bars. And when you do use it you use it for wake up shadow teleport instead of using it in more helpful ways like plowing through all the bats.
