They don’t balance to please tournament players, heck tournament players have been begging IG to stop making frequent balance changes since S2 because they have to relearn and adapt to every little change.
I’m sure we would have plenty of lovely stages for eyedol to win every matchup on.
Except, not really, because asset creation and game balance generally don’t come from the same place, etc etc.
A good portion of tournament players don’t like changes. Many stopped competing altogether as a result. Not really a bad guy in this case. Just showed alot of ignorance.
On seeing Infiltration explain his dislike of SFV Season 2, he reminded me of the various KI Pro players. However, unlike Infiltration, our ‘pros’ stop playing
Uhh, I wouldn’t be so sure about this.
Actually, as a player who doesn’t compete in tournaments I have thought about this a lot. And I’m nearly certain we wouldn’t get any additional content if they stopped balancing the game. I’m also glad they continue to balance the game because it’s still a competetive game, even if people aren’t competing in tournaments, and maintaining a balanced game helps keep people (including me) from feeling like the game is stacked against them.
Anyway, like a few others I signed up for the last 8-bit Beatdown. I won’t make it out of pools but it always makes me sad to see people get worn out by putting a lot of time and effort into something for others that those people don’t necessarily appreciate. As a potential pathway for players to become interested in the competetive FGC, I think 8-bit really defined the KI tournament scene for a lot of people.
Wait, isn’t the plot of literally every fighting game just “Hey there’s a tournament”?
On topic:
Bummed to hear that the Beatdown is coming to a close, but at the same time it kinda seems like it was inevitable. I mean, if life gets in the way and/or you’re just not having fun anymore, it’s perfectly fine to stop.
Happy trails to the dudes behind 8BBD. Here’s hoping they find happiness and the KI community finds a way to fill the void they leave.
Don’t mean to pick out the pieces of you’re sentence like everyone else is doing but…
Gladiatorial Tournaments (I’m assuming) existed before Fighting Games
What about real-life fighting games?
I don’t think those are games…
Well couldn’t organized street fighting / fight clubs with gambling attached be considered games? I imagine those have existed for a long time.
Oh! I thought you were talking about fights in general lol
sometimes life does that. sigh what a shame.
The people doing balance changes are not the same people making colors and costumes and stages and modes, fyi. Within any large development team, there are smaller groups focused on only one or two aspects of the game, with a director up top coordinating it all.
I signed for the tournament. I usually can’t be there, timezone issues, but this deserves it
It’s sad that a good tournament like this comes to an end. Best wishes for Zombie
I’ll be watching it when I get the chance. Loved 8bitdowns. Thanks for all the work.
Yeah, but when they get a stable game for a while a lot of them also complain that X and Y should be fixed, no?
I understand the hassle of constantly having to relearn small nuances to matchups as things change, but I don’t think an unchanging game is necessarily the answer either.
It’s not. I wasn’t arguing that. Just that that guy had 0 idea on why ig implemented changes so frequently @Infilament.
I wish I could’ve joined as well, but I missed the sign-up windows. I’d talked to the organisers about accessibility etc as well so we knew it could be worked around. Oh well. Just looks like I’m stuck playing sets etc with friends/forum members as I’m outside the US.
Watching top 16 right now. It’s hype AF.
Kalypso with Kilgore, haha
