basically.
All i hope is that if they ever come back they be called 16bit beatdowns.
…I really hope you understand how self-centered this sounds.
On topic, I’m sad to hear this. I guess I should have entered one of the previous ones but it seems like there was always something in the way. Now I can’t enter because I’m somehow STILL sick.
The point was that the average low-skill player (like myself) hasn’t even heard of the 8-bit Beatdown, meaning that the majority of people who play this game won’t even notice, so in the long run it won’t mean much to the longevity of the game.
If you chose to take it in a “self-centered” sorta way, I’m sorry but that is not what it meant.
I thought it was the last one BEFORE KI WORLD CUP as a qualifier for points before KIWC???
Nope sadly the people who do them have personal things that need to come first and the bi weekly run is taking to much time from them
A better question is how have you not heard of them? They’re advertised in the giant popup every time you launch the game?
I didn’t say that I haven’t heard of them, of course I have but the average gamer who fires up KI just to have fun probably has no clue what the heck it is and won’t miss it when its gone and I can’t speak for everyone but whenever the meld pops up I close it faster than it can open.
So yeah sorry guys if I sounded self-centered but isn’t it a little self-centered to assume that since one small group of players (compared to the masses that don’t compete) is stopping their tournament gatherings that the entire KI community is starting to die? For most people who just play for fun (like me) it won’t make a difference, that’s all I was trying to say.
I’m like you I’m low level and I just play for some fun but I’ve watched several streams. I watch them when there isn’t anything good on tv. They’re on Sundays so yea lol
I’ll have to try to catch this last one live. Zombie is a good dude, and the Beatdowns have cultivated several incredible moments.
Recently it’s seemed like Zombie has been over it, he’s been doing casual streams of games he likes and feels like playing, which is cool. I can totally understand if the behaviour of people in Twitch chats during the Beatdowns has just ruined it for him, because I’m in the same ■■■■■■■ boat, but I’m going to miss what he did for the community. Maybe someone else will be able to pick up from where he left off and it’ll fill the hole left over completely, but otherwise I think this is a step back for KI.
I think the “competitive scene goes into decline → devs who are in it for competitive KI move on to greener pastures → no more content for casuals” theory is probably part of the truth. We know that several members of the combat design team are heavily invested in competition and grew up in the FGC at large, and testers like Amenty and Tswagg have come from the competitive scene. If enough of the devs are sticking around because of that aspect of the community, then it makes sense that IG would have to decline further KI content creation and find a new contract elsewhere for the team if the competitive scene dried up.
That’s to say nothing of why Microsoft hasn’t discontinued support for the game yet. It could be that the game manages to limp along and balance the books with basically a skeleton crew on Microsoft’s end, and/or they’re hoping that KI slowly builds a following or at least builds back some goodwill after the 'Bone launch fiasco, but it seems like Microsoft probably has a dire talent shortage all round and would love to reassign people to more promising projects and/or putting out the fires that are burning all over Xbox and Win10 at the moment. So I don’t know, maybe they see KI as a part of their esports push.
I don’t know dude. I’m speculating, sure, but when I think of why KI isn’t dead yet, ideas like “the game is doing great numbers with casuals” or “Phil Spencer is just a really cool guy” don’t really seem to cut it. Maybe competitive play matters more than you’d like it to.
While I can’t speak for Zombie, I think this is happening to a lot of people, myself included. And I know Zombie has been frustrated with that in the past, and it probably hasn’t gotten much better since he had a bit of an understandable meltdown about it the one time.
If I had to guess, I think Zombie realized he is happier not doing the beatdowns. It’s a stressful, thankless job where he has to put up with toxic twitch culture at its worst. He also has to do solo commentary a lot, which I imagine is not his first choice. If I was him, I probably would have stopped long ago, so I’m glad he’s done it this long at least!
Sad to see the 8BBD come to an end but can totally understand his reasons. The toxic twitch chats makes this decision easier for him I’m sure. Seems like it always got on his nerves and they get on mine as well. I usually just watch the stream and ignore the chat now.
I’m guessing this means that the KI Pro League is no more as well. It’s a shame but hopefully Kross Up will be a great replacement.
But twitch chats aren’t serious, I find them funny lol we shouldn’t take what random people on the internet say so personal. They should block the “trouble makers”. When flash streams he blocks out the haters. He’ll tell them off first lol but he blocks them out.
Anyways I guess I’ll keep an eye out for the kross up events
As my thanks to Zombie, I’ll compete in my second beatdown to honor his dedication.
I’ll enjoy getting bodied first round!
Lol good luck fam
I don’t think so, since that’s an IG/MS initiative. They may need to find a different streamer but it shouldn’t affect KIPL.
I wish I could join this one just for support, but it starts around the time I have to head to work. I had a lot of fun watching the events and listening to Zombie’s commentary. Its a shame to see it end, I hope they come back stronger. I also hope more people take over in their absence, showcasing this game we love at its highest level.
Thanks Zombie. Come back if you can.
That might’ve been one that went on as the same time as a big major. 8Bits usually get pretty large numbers
This may be the end for now. But never know what the future holds. Its not the 1st time 8bit had to go on a long hiatus.
I guess that I will be the bad guy
Does anyone stop and think about how much possible KI content we could have if IG didn’t spend all this time on balancing changes every month to please 20-30 tournament players. Fighting games existed long before tournaments, so I think KI will be just fine.
