Soul Calibur 6

harsh.

You should know by now that when it comes to me, I go gaga over guest characters. SoulCalibur has had a reputation for a while as being the guest character fighting game. That along with being the weapon fighter.

Or are you just mad at that roster selection pun?

I also thought that Artorias from Dark Souls would be a good pick, but sense he’s own by Namco, that would be a very safe pick, so I didn’t mention it.

1 or 2 guest characters maybe, but 6? Makes me want to barf.

this is something you and I disagree about a lot. And honestly, i would only want that many if we had a huge roster anyway. Something around or in between the size of Tekken 7 or UMvC3. I would not push for this it that meant we didn’t also get plenty of new and preexisting SoulCalibur characters. But I love crossovers. I go gaga for them for reasons I don’t even know. So that’s what I’m really going to want and am going to ask for. It’s also not a region of speculation I usually get to get really excited about and share my ideas with because so many people in FGC’s disagree with me that you very quickly get booed offstage and pelted with glass bottles. I thought it would be different here. I wanted to talk about my ideas, have other people comment on them, and then suggest their own. But clearly, that’s not what’s happening.

You have someone on there twice

I do like the idea of Setsuka being a DLC character. I’d probably replace Cassandra with either Hilde, Amy or Dampierre. I’d also want Edge Master in there somewhere.

As for the guest character, I’d love to see a KI character on Xbox and a Bloodborne hunter on PS4.

For KI, I’d limit the pool to characters that regularly wield weapons that fit the SC universe. So Jago, Hisako, Shin Hisako, Spinal, Tusk, Kim Wu and Shadow Jago. Left off Orchid because I kinda think her weapon would look a bit out of place. Left off any characters whose weapons are projectiles like Eagle and Arbiter (even though he has other weapons).

Of those seven characters, I’d probably order them based on how much I’d want them in SC like this:

SEVEN: Shin Hisako - They already have Mitsurugi wielding the same, if not a similar weapon

SIX: Spinal - I know he’s an iconic KI character, but a skeleton in SC seems kinda odd to me, even though I know they have stuff like lizard men.

FIVE: Kim Wu - We already have a nunchuck character in Maxi.

FOUR: Jago - While he shares a weapon with an SC character already, he probably has the look and style that might fight in the most.

THREE: - Hisako - I like her weapon, and I think she’d be a unique addition to SC. Only problem is that while she’s become rather iconic for KI fans, I don’t know how many outside of KI really know her all that well.

ONE B: - Shadow Jago - I think he’d look awesome in SC. His weapon looks just different enough and he could bring some fun on-screen elements to the game.

ONE A: - Tusk - Yeah, he’s probably encroaching on Nightmare / Siegfried’s territory as the giant swoard weilder, but his looks different enough, and he looks different enough, and he wields it differently enough to be a very unique character in SC. Is he iconic enough? Possibly. It’s debatable. That’s why I said one B and one A instead of two and one.

Well they said Geralt is not the only guest, but he is the only on on Disc. Another guest character will be DLC.

Fixed!

So you’d want Heihachi and Spawn back for another game? Even if they fight differently than before, that seems like kind of a tough sell, don’t you think? How different do you think they’d be from their past iterations? Just curious.

I like both of these characters, for sure, but if we’re talking about guests, I’d like either Tusk or Shago from KI on the Xbox version and a Bloodborne hunger on the PS4 version (totally agree with you there).

I think Cloud would be a GREAT addition. LOVE that idea. Sephiroth would be great as well. Heck, I’d be more than happy with both of them. Give them a nice Ehrgeiz reunion.

Other characters that I’d like to see include:

Alucard or a Belmont from Castlevania

Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Kenshi, Kabal or Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat: Even if they have to have somewhat altered looks to fit better with the time period

Samanosuke from Onimusha

Rikimaru from Tenchu

Several different characters from Samurai Shodown (also agree on Haohmaru)

Also agree with Monster Hunter

I don’t know how much either character would change. I just feel like more could be done to incorporate them into the soulcalibur style, and we have more licensed to to that sense they appeared before. Giving Heihachi Tekko Kagi Claws would give him added range, and change some of his normals, while still slowing him to maintain the basics of the Mishima Style martial arts. Making it a medieval executioner spawn is partly to remove time travel from how he got their, and partly to justify the ax that they already gave him. He would be Spawn, but he wouldn’t be Al Simmons. He would be someone who worked for Malbogia in the past. I would want him to do more with his necroplasm though. Get more creative.

Plus, if you bring back Spawn, then you’re talking with Todd MacFarlane. Which means there is a better chance of bringing back. NECRID!!!

Aside from guest characters, I really do hope the Create a character will be a lot better than the last one.

I want them to be able to not just give lizardman a color and armor change, but also physical features like horns, fins, and even feathers.

I totally forgot about Simon! I’m usually for him too. It just slipped my mind. I mean, has soulcalibur ever had a character who legitimately fights with a whip.

I would love a mortal Kombat character too. My personal love would be for Shao Kahn. Fighting with his Wrath Hammer all of the time instead of just for specials.

I’m not familiar with Onimusha or Tenchu, and just looking at pictures I don’t get the appeal, but i’m sure if I played or watched some of their stuff I would understand.

Monster Hunter would be cool, but I am also for using Dante. If we also got Bayonetta then I would be for him instead of the hunter. We need a game where Dante can fight Bayonetta.

@CausingThought6 and @Iago407 so apart from characters, what other features are guys intrested in seeing. What other modes would you like to see in SCVI

Offline vs. CPU. I don’t think I should have to stipulate that, but Tekken 7 didn’t have it so who know.

If it has that and an Arcade mode I’ll be good. Maybe a story mode too.

Maybe some goofey extra thing like what Mortal Kombat like Motor Kombat. Puzzle Kombat. Cooking with Scorpion.

I think it’s important to know that just because one game had or lacked something doesn’t mean that another game would follow suit. Tekken 7 did not have a feature that allows you to make an original character, but Soul Calibur VI has one.

As for story mode, look no further than this video.

Now an Arcade mode, definatley do that for sure.

I would like to also have a theater feature as well. where you look at previous matches and put on the free camera mode.

It’s the same dev team right?

Well, Heihachi’s my favorite Tekken character, so I think what you’re saying sounds cool for him. I’m still not entirely sold on the idea of repeat guests though. Same goes for Spawn, though I do agree whole heartedly that SC2 didn’t take nearly enough advantage of his abilities. I get that the cape would’ve been a huge hindrance at the time, but I still think there’s a lot more they could’ve done.

I think they’re good samurai and ninja type characters and I think they could fit in well with Soul Calibur. Plus they both could do a ton in their gameplay. Would I rather see awesome samurai and ninja designs for brand new Soul Calibur characters? Absolutely. But these two characters are relatively well known, or at least they were about ten years ago and they’re definitely good examples of what could be done with these types of characters.

I’m kinda curious to see how they’ll tell the story this time around. While I loved weapon master mode in Soul Calibur 2, as it was almost sort of like a text based adventure with battles in it, I’d really like to see them weave more individual characters that you’d use as well as their own personal stories into it, with a lot more cutscenes in to it. I say a lot more because WMM didn’t have any at all that I remember.

So yeah, a story mode that really includes all of the characters, their full journeys and interactions with other characters. Have the fun battle variety like with quick sand and being poisoned or having wind or having the edges of the stage make you explode up in the air, etc. I always loved that stuff.

Going along with the stage effects, I think it’d be cool to have a slot machine like MK9 did, where characters had different status buffs and ailments that effected one or both of them. Combine that with the stage stuff and make them unique enough and the mode wouldn’t be a complete rip off of MK9’s version and it could be kinda fun.

I’d be very curious to see what a tag mode would look like in Soul Calibur. I doubt they’d do one, but who knows, I think that knocking someone up in the air with Cervantes and pulling them back down to earth with Ivy’s whip sword could be fun.

This might sound kinda weird, but I’d like to see a sort of History Mode. Something that can lay out the entire timeline for both the characters (and I mean ALL of the characters) as well as the main story. It’d be nice to have a sort of handy lore reference since SC’s story hasn’t always been that clear.

As far as Create a Soul (which you mentioned above), I’m 110% in favor of that. Ideally, to me at least, it’d be nice if they decided to forego the sillier stuff. It’d also be cool if they had a ton of different fighting styles that weren’t on the main roster, especially if certain characters from future games aren’t going to make it in to this game, maybe you can create them, weapon, move list, look and all.

I know this wouldn’t happen, but I’ve wanted it for MK for so long that I might as well mention it here: A Create a Game mode. I think it’d be even easier with Soul Calibur. You create, let’s say up to twelve characters, maybe you can even pull in a few regular SC characters, and you have them on your own select screen, you create their stories, their arcade endings (text based with a stock picture you select from) and then maybe you can even tell a story like Weapon Master mode.

I know that definitely wouldn’t be for everyone, but I think it’d be nice.

Obviously I’d like to see the requisite Time Attack, Team Battle and Survival return. Maybe a first person mode. I personally love survival modes in fighting games. Putting my initials in, checking the leaderboard, seeing the high score or win total. It’d also be nice for this one of the survival mode had top 5’s for each character along with a top 20 overall.

Last one, and maybe this is my inner Tekken fan coming out, but it’d be cool to play through a Tekken Force style side scrolling minigame. There could also be story elements in this that connect to the main story, but I think it’d be cool. Sure, some moves might have to be toned down, but if they could do it right and kinda blow out the production values, I think something like this could be really cool. Maybe even make it two player co-op?

How about you, @justathereptile, any modes you want to see?

Honestly, I came up with this as a kind of marketing decision. They want to harken back to SoulCalibur 2, the game that most people think of as the best. And what better way than refeaturing it’s three iconic guests with something new about each one. (Tekko-Kagis for Heihachi, Executioner Spawn, Breath of the Wild Link). Re featuring guests is not usually something fighters do. But then again, guest characters used to not be a typical thing for them to do and soulcalibur broke that norm all the time. I don’t know. Maybe it’s a pipe dream. But I think it would be really cool.

Don’t know if it’s the same team, but I know Okubo directed both games. However, that doesn’t mean they will repeat the same thing.

Heck Ed Boon direct both MK and Injustice. Injustice has no fatalities but MK does. MK has X-rays but Injustice does not.

Just a couple of examples.

@Iago407
Here’s what I’d like to see.

1.Camera replay mode.

You can look at your previous battles and look at them from different angles. Rotating the camera around and zoom in and zoom out ect,

2.Team Battle

A classic from the first two games, and since SC6 is both SC1 and SC2 with a pinch of SC3 (because Zasalamel) why not bring it back. Plus me and my bro use to play it alot back when we had SC-2

That’s all I have so far

I’d like that, the twist is you could play with 4 people online or local and play as all the characters. I’d love the idea of me and Jeff as lizardmen running around and beating up beserkers, knights, even other lizardmen it’d be neat.

Who said offline vs cpu?
They do have that correct

Not sure, Okubo’s been keeping a lot of stuff under wraps.

Check this out.

here comes anita sarkeesian. lol. i give props to namco for not chickening out and leaving everyone as they are even voldo the gimp
