Oh it does something, alright. If he crosses you up with a teleport or hits you with a fireball while in instinct, he gets chained onto you with a shadow tether of sorts until he gets hit (or until instinct ends, whichever comes 1st). While chained, he shares shadow meter with you. Basically, his shadow and surge moves only use up 1/2 of his meter than normal because he takes the other 1/2 from you. It’s basically a buy one get one at half price! This allows him to potentially hit you with 4 shadow moves in a combo or a butt-ton of surged moves.
Furthermore, he gets 2 frames of advantage on all his moves.
Shago is just annoying lol. His dash is really good just being everywhere on screen, amazing fireballs, when he does dash through and plans to attack he has three options so I have to guess on what he’s going to do, and that jumping hp is godlike which seems to be the go to thing in ranked. Sure he doesn’t do the greatest damage and has stuff that’s negative but it’s definitely easy to see why people hate or annoyed having to fight this character.
shago reminds me of Seth in SF4… he is close to SSF4AE seth where he is mad annoying but beatable… I mained seth in AE however I’d never play Shago in this game…
I don’t like this character at all but hey, I enjoy tea bagging the crap of his dead body when I win which brings me to another point… WTF do people tea bag so much in this game? especially Shago players.. You would think this SF3 where characters get special properties for preforming this… NOPE!!! I’m in Gold ranking (finally lol) and I thought players would be more mature seeing that 2/3 matchs are about playing solid… NOPE!!! and its usually Shago players.. Hell, I’m new to season 3 and I’ve seen more shago players than any other character (outside of button mashing rash players, Jago’s, and Tusk because of his dumb j.mp/ damage)…
One who literally isnt as hardcore of a fighting game play would think he is OP or would play him because he seems like easy W’s…
I’d say he has alot of advantages but the only thing I think needs to be fixed about him is the ability to cross up teleport when a character is in a HKD state (or atleast make him use a resource such as instinct to gain that ability) Other than that, he is fine because he can be overwhelmed or out footsied at mid range by any character.
On the matter of Annihilation, tbh the only thing that is conflicting with general KI philosophy is breakability, especially now in S3 when a lot more things are breakable. Then again, there are things like Aganos wall crush (requires setup, but not instinct, so there’s that), so…
Sorry if my video came across a bit pedantic - but most of the complaints surrounding Annihilation at the time I made the video were pretty basic and it really seemed like nobody realized they could jump or stuff the move. That video was made a week or so after Shago’s release.
Eff me for making content I guess…
Sure - Shago can catch you in recovery frames with this - and yeah’s it’s 48% unbreakable. You gotta play the MU carefully when he has instinct meter.
I certainly can’t argue with your feelings on the 48% unbreakable damage seeming out of place among the rest of the cast - that’s how you feel, and I don’t intend to sway you.
I wasn’t aiming to you espacialy. In fact your video is really usefull for people that doesn’t know how to avoid it, and I was one of them when he has been released. Thank you for making it’s still helping people who have no clue about what to do.
I’m super happy to hear it helped anyone! Sorry to have assumed that was aimed at me.
What’s funny is - as a Shago alt, I am beginning to hate him as much as anyone else - but it’s because of the spammy, scrubby Shagos giving people a hard time online.
I hereby solemnly swear to abuse the crap out of each and every one I run into with disrespectful play.
I main shago myself, I can see why people hate him that much, spamming endokuken and a massive runaway game, I try not to play like this because it’s not fun for either players really aha but I can see where people are coming from, think I ran into @LEboueur online like yesterday with my shago haha, promptly got bodied
If I remeber well this game, I just fought against a runaway Shago right before you, and lost 1-2 in a really close ending. After that the only thing I was thinking about was “I won’t let this one run away” ^^’
This time it worked… The runaway-multiple TP is a lot more annoying to me rather than the annihilation move (even if it still doesn’t feel fair to me).
@Marbledecker yeah unfortunatly, I’m not any good with her right now. All my finger’s thoughts now is about Tusk. When I take her back, I have a huge effort to do on my mind to use the right buttons. And because of that, I’m really impressed by people like Rico Suave (and more) who can play multiple characters like all of them was their main.
I just that the problem with Shago is that it’s way too easy to feel overwhelmed by even the simplest of players, and it can be very incentive to turtle up and take his offense/zoning until you find an opening. It happened to me on my recent video.
We just have to understand that every mixup he gets can only safely net him 10% or so.
That is pretty much what you have to do against him tho. I main shago/arbiter, and when playing against other shagos I wait for them to do something unsafe and give up their turn. Just keep your spacing, block low and watch for the overheads. He only has like 2 decent moves which are safe or plus (f.HK is plus and b.HK is safe) since surge divekick got nerfed. You can shadow counter his pizza cutter too. Admittedly, it takes good defense to block his stuff when it gets crazy (especially the dash-thru stuff), so you’ll get opened up a few times but without meter his damage is meh.
On the topic of Annihilation, Fulgore can get 50% + a ■■■■ ton of potential unbreakable. And he can do this more times a match than Shago can do Annihilation. Devastation beam is also faster, it’s a 7-frame, full-screen punish.
And before you say that Fulgore has better uses for his meter than a 50% unbreakable guaranteed with another 25% potential, Shago has better uses for his instinct than a 48% unbreakable and a return to neutral
My main problem with annihilation is not the move itself. My problem with it is that all these scrubs just resort to using it instead of actually using his instinct, which is amazing IMO. Again, it’s juvenile and keeps people from learning their character.
I can definitely see the challenge of Shago as a frustrating character. If you are not playing right, a mediocre or even lousy Shago player can run all over the place and sometimes look really good beating you. So even a bad Shago can look godlike against someone who is unfamiliar with the matchup. A lot of his moves seem unbeatable - until you learn how to beat them.
