The “my” sound isn’t generally prevalent in Spanish, although I don’t know what country in SA she’s from. Vocals are pronounced with a single sound.
Since mira (pronounced meera) is also a Spanish word like you said, being from SA, it makes more sense to call her “Meerah”.
I’m no expert, but so far in my life, English is the only language that pronounces the “y” in a word as “a-eeh”.
