What season were you most hyped for?
Season 3, no doubt. I’ve been following KI for ages, but season 3 was the first version I’d actually get to play.
What was your favorite season for the character roster?
I’m a little torn on this one. Overall I think season 2/3 have the most interesting character designs, but personally most of the characters I like to play (jago, thunder, fulgore, sadira) are in season 1.
What season had the best new characters?
This one’s easy; season 2, no question. Hisako, aganos, kan-ra, and aria are some of the most interesting designs I’ve seen in any fighting game.
What season offered the best redesign for a classic character?
To me it’s season 3. IMO classic kim wu, tusk, gargos, and eyedol are very weak designs visually (eyedol in particular was just awful) and I’m impressed that they turned them all into good designs, even if the asset quality is maybe not as good for kim/tusk compared to some season 1 characters. That being said, season 1 did an amazing job with thunder, orchid, and spinal as well.
What delivery did you prefer?
Hard to say here, I think there’s merit to each delivery method. Personally I think season 3 takes it simply due to launching with 4 characters.
What new game system did you prefer?
This one’s tough for me, because…well, to me I see air breaker as more of a logical necessity than really a system to be excited for. I’d say season 2 was the best in terms of fixing what needed to be fixed, but to me flipout and stagger are systems I get excited about because they bring in things I enjoy from other games.
Best ranked system?
I’ll say season 3, from what I remember of S1/S2 streams, but I’m not all that qualified to answer because I wasn’t playing back then.
Best game modes?
Shadow lords AI may be annoying at times, but there’s something about it that tickles that lizard part of the brain that gets pleasure from grinding an MMO without the horribly boring gameplay of an MMO. Gotta be season 3.
Best story/stages/ultras?
No comment on any.
Best music?
Season 3 to me has the highest highs, and the low points aren’t as low as previous seasons.
Best new character?
It’s close between aganos and hisako for me, but I’d say aganos simply because his gameplay is so out there. Hisako is the waifu though.
Best graphics?
Season 3. While it’s true season 1 had the best animations and probably the best art assets for the characters, season 3’s relighting as well as the PC graphics and adjusting the shadow effect to be less visually busy makes it look the best to me.
What season is your #1?
Kind of unfair for me to even vote here but it’s season 3, because looking back on season 1 and 2 I really don’t think I would have had all that much fun with those systems. Combo breakers being hard/soft knockdowns sounds awful, season 1’s inconsistent and kind of broken breaker system is no bueno, and there are some character designs during season 2 I don’t think I’d have enjoyed having to fight.
