I think y’all might wanna loosen the straps on your nostalgis goggles before they cut off circulation to your brain.
Cutting edge… gimme a break. Those games looked like flaming trash in the early 90s. They should have been embarrassed of most of those designs. I know I’m embarrassed…
People think a new game will be this over whelming awesome graphics thing with great tech and all that I don’t think they realize if we got a new game we would have to start from scratch again and go all the way back to how it was in season 1. I don’t know where people are getting the idea that a new K.I means they suddenly get a full Budget game because that most likely wont be the case. A new game means you will loose most of your characters and mostly likely your game modes as well, Your Graphic will probably go down and so on, Theirs no guarantees it wont be a low budget game again. It’s better to build on this game with seasons to upgrade it as we go instead of starting all over again. At least we know with the season we can only go forward but if you got a hole new game then there is a chance we can go backwards and do you guys really want that. If we get a new game all your gonna get is people asking for stuff that was in this game already because its not in the new and then really what would be the point where if we just add on to this one you keep everything you have now and get the additional contented. The season is the better and safer option.
When the first KI out it was cutting edge. It was a shock basically. Everybody where amazed with the new 3d like look. I still remember the wow expression of everyone who was first time seeing it.
And as for the graphics, they could use unreal engine or something. Double helix created its own engine for k.i. I think, so using an already established product would alleviate the starting from scratch woes. However I’m not a coder, so I cant say. I’m just kinda guessing Either way I’m just saying what I want not what they will or must do to succeed.
Then you are literally the only person I have ever seen that was playing videogames in 1994 that saw KI in the arcades and wasn’t absolutely floored by the graphics.
The visuals, sounds and CGI were jaw dropping at the time…it’s what made people thirst for ‘Ultra 64’.
It’s honestly comes down to do you want to see a few more characters, game modes and stages or would you rather start over with a slight enhanced version of season one.
An interesting way to take a look at it. I think some people are just ready to get that “KI they had in their mind” kind of thing. Never figured that kind of mentality still hung around. I figured that died by now but I guess not lol.
IF we ever get a new KI it will be what it will be.
I personally wouldn’t wanna start from scratch yet. I want IG to perfect this current KI with a few more features which will keep me playing for a good while until the new KI comes out. Which I’m sure would be 2-3 years down the road.
I don’t think it’d be alot like season1. If they use a different engine, than it’s possible we may not even get the same game play. Just the possibility of a potentially slower or heavily changed gameplay because I’ve never seen any games with an unreal engine that creat fast paced (and tight) 2D style fighting gameplay yet.
So while I know people have their dreams I have to say I question them on the possibility on that. What if the gameplay ends up having to be re-worked from the ground up because of the engine? That is a question that should be asked before we go day-dreaming about a new KI with hyper intense graphics.
just something to consider: just cause not everyone remembers KI1 as fondly as you do, doesn’t mean they didn’t grow up on that same time. There have been many of people who used that same kind of assumption and made an ■■■ of themselves xD
With the MK2 cabinet across the aisle, whose sprites looked like photographs to my young eyes, there was just nothing to be floored by. It was obnoxiously loud too, for no good reason. The shouting and the awful music… yeah man, I just don’t get how everyone has such find memories of those games.
Well I’m glad that people had these outstandingly high standards for games back in mid 90’s. It’s interesting that you didn’t see anything special in the aesthetics of KI back then compared to other games of the time. (and that’s fine by the way, just a little baffling to me is all). You must feel the current K.I is super duper trash now too? I just like what I like. approve if you want, it is of no real consequence and will not sway what I want to see haha. I don’t have the proverbial crystal ball, but I’m sure Microsoft isn’t reading my post and saying “Lets do what he’s talking about”. So not to worry, a shoehorned season 4 may still come to fruition.
It wasn’t a matter of having high standards, just the ability to look at one game and acknowledge it looked bad compared to the cabinets around it. I saw the specialness of their aesthetic w/o understanding the concept of aesthetics - across the aisle from MK2, SF2, House of the Dead, Dig-Dug, Sinistar… KI looked bad and made a lot of annoying noise.
I guess it’s just one of those things you had to live to understand.
Yep, from my understanding the camera movements were tied to the map data packs not the characters, meaning that the ultimate could only be done on one stage. Initially they were just going to give us the ultimate on Shadow Tiger’s lair but they devised a new system that somehow allows us to use them on any stage. Probably tying the animations to the character data instead of the map data.
It had nothing to do with the limitations of the engine, just the coding used to put them in the game. I’m sure DH probably rushed to get Shago’s ultimate working in time and probably intended to fix it later but then they were pulled away from KI.
From what I gather the fix was that they remove the background image while the animation plays out so that there won’t be any interference, which is why the screen goes black when the ultimate is going.
I would have said a new season but at this point KI is pretty much left behind in the crowd of a whole bunch of newer more improved fighting games. SFV will soon offer more content than KI, Tekken will be out soon with a huge cast, MvC will take all the casuals along with Injustice. At this point KI is stagnant and the devs seem to be looking away from things we asked for a year ago. It’s kind of late at this point.
New KI or bust. The current game is broken in terms of mechanics no one besides die hard fans who defend it to death want. The animations are mediocre. No matter how many times they change the lighting it’s still bad. Just let it be I say.
Unless they make a new KI game I don’t think people will be looking to go all in on KI with a bunch of other fighting games offering better content out in the market.
I’ll be totally honest, I don’t really understand what a game engine does. I try not to talk like I do though. Sorry if in have misrepresented my ignorance in this matter. Let the record state that Mr.Morning knows not what a game engine does.
That said, I feel like I remember seeing the Unreal logo while booting SF4 a bajillion times. My memory is a bit stoney though… shoulda googled it first, derp.
