The flip side is that every complaint no matter how trivial is somehow reasonable and important enough that it needs to be addressed. Sorry, but there has to be a line somewhere.
Nope. That is not the flipside is complain when you don’t like it. This makes more sense than don’t play it if yiu don’t like it. Having some good complaints and some stupid ones are better than don’t play if you don’t like it
You act like I have created this choice and I’m trying to stifle discussion on the boards, which is complete nonsense and totally unfair. Just once again people distracting from the real issue (about which they have nothing left to say) to try to pick a fight.
Here is a quote from the OP of this thread - pulled out of the latest multi-paragraph treatise on MS policy and practice:
In light of this, the title of the thread should be changed to “please kill the Windows Store and support principled PC gaming releases instead” and moved to the off-topic thread.
If people want to ask for features that’s fine. But this thread is filled with demands of “if you don’t do this, people won’t buy it.” So responding “fine, then don’t buy it” is not somehow breaking the system with a logical disconnect that ruins the forums. If you sit around saying “I’m going to take my toys and go home if I don’t get exactly what I want all the time,” then people should be prepared to hear “fine, then go home.”
And “if you don’t want to read it, don’t read the forums” is exactly the same argument as “then don’t buy it.”
Say, you really want to buy a new car, an electric car. And you really adore this fancy new model. It is really good, it has a downside though, it can only be charged at a certified station, you can’t plug it into your outlet at home. Too bad it’s not sold in your country. So you team up with other people that want it and pester the manufacturer to bring it to your country, commiting some of your time. They cave in and say that soon they will start selling the car, you are happy and got your money ready. But later they reveal that the nearest charging station is 20 miles away from your home or work. There will be one more, it will be closer, but in a super shady ghetto, that you don’t even want to consider it. Now, you are not so happy and feel conflicted. And other people find out and angrily write you “Oh, but you said you wanted it, but now you bargain and want to buy it only on your terms? What an ungrateful priсk!”
It’s the same about KI. You are not buying just the game, you are also in for a service. At least for me, it’s a matter of convenience.
The problem with your analogy is that in your car story the functionality of the car is significantly impeded - and you even imply that the persons safety is in jeapordy. A better analogy would be finding out that the car could only be serviced at the dealership (which is actually true for most electric vehicles) or it only comes in black or red. In which case, yes, I would expect you to still buy the car.
That is nothing like what we are talking about here. None of these complaints are about convenience and none of them are talking about service. The same people who are going to find the exe file and link it in to an overlay program are too lazy to click open the MS store or put a desktop shortcut on their desktop? That’s not believable.
You can very easily click on the Windows store and buy this game. It’s a single time transaction (not like refueling your electric car), and you aren’t getting any service. The complaints are exactly four things:
- The game runs in borderless window mode
- The game runs with v-sync turned on
- The game doesn’t support SLI (although we have since learned that it could)
- No access to exe files to run overlays or link the game to Steam
1-3 are, at best, issues of game performance. If the game doesn’t run well, people shouldn’t buy it. No one will argue that with you. The fourth is trivial to all but a tiny minority of people. So fine. If you have special needs that are not being met you can ask for them. But the fiftieth time you demand them, someone might point out to you that you’re being unreasonable and are free to spend your money elsewhere.
No, you are buying a game nothing more. Can you play the game as intended by the devs? Great have fun!
Overlays, mods, etc doesn’t work? Well that was not what you bought.
Guess what. The performance of the game matters. If it doesn’t work well, then you should complain. I am still in the middle over whether the windoes store only is a good thing. It is good that it is coming to pc. Just how good it runs.
There are other things like needing Windows 10, crippled controller support, lack of decent regional pricing in MS store, having to manage and run yet another service in the background to play games. And every little annoyance adds up.
You can not care about policies and such all you want, but just know that your blindly following along with what companies like this do is exactly why they can get away with this ■■■■, and I’m sick and tired of it. If you don’t care, then don’t post in this thread as the only contribution you’ve given is to call me and people who have similar concerns immature and too picky. If everyone had your attitude, then gaming would be more similar to 1984 than what you see it as now.
You want my true prediction and fear with this whole thing? KI is going to be the sacrificial lamb in this whole ordeal. One of two things will happen; MS will continue to proceed as they are, not fix what they said they would fix, and the platform will die, meaning KI on PC will die because I doubt they would let it go to any other platform. The 2nd possibility is that, after a while, they make changes to the platform that fix the issues, and my belief is that KI will not be updated to reflect these changes, and it will die just like MKX on PC did when they fixed the net code and released the 2nd set of DLC characters. All of this is assuming that it is actually decently playable on launch, which could very well not be the case knowing IG’s history with PC ports (I again refer to Divekick not even being able to change resolution properly on PC at launch).
Without talking about policies or anything, that right there is the real, cold hard truth of what could happen with KI being on this platform. Am I being too paranoid? History would say that either of these things not only could happen, but are more likely than people seem to think.
It cannot just die on PC. It has cross play. Updates must go to pc as well unless they shut it down completely on Pc. Doing so wouldn’t make too much sense. IG did make 3rd strike online whoch I heard was good so it gives me hope.
1.) They can absolutely cancel support for the PC version and only update the Xbox One version, canceling cross play in the process. I can see this happening; months go by as MS fixes their platform, PC version of KI slowly dwindles in the process to the point where it is no longer cost effective to both implement the fixes and continue patching it. Looking at history, Microsoft and developers have pulled apps completely from their store. Not just making them unavailable for purchase and download, but because of how the ecosystem works, they can literally take it off your computer if you have it installed. If they did this with KI, they could just say “all your progress can be accessed on the Xbox One version, no refunds.”
2.) 3rd Strike Online was for console only, they didn’t have to worry about so many different hardware configs to support.
If performance works, the game will succeed. Many fans wanted KI but couldn’t due to xbox one exclusive. Now they can. If non performance factors like mods and stuff doesn’t work, chances are they would’ve never bought and stay in the game in the first place. Now if the port sucks, then we have a problem.
Yes of course. I said exactly this.
This is wrong, actually. I don’t blindly follow anyone’s anything. I am playing KI on Xbox One. I will get it for free on PC, and if I don’t like it there I won’t play it. But I also didn’t ask MS to put it on PC, and I’m not asking them to put it on Steam. I already have it. I have Windows 10 (and quite like it), but the only game I have purchased off of the Windows Store is “Hungry Shark Evolution” because my kids think it’s great. Incidentally, if they let me get cross buy on that for X1 I would be pretty happy. It runs no problem and I haven’t felt the need to use it with an overlay or adjust the vsync. I would also have played Fable Legends on PC if they had released it (grrrrr).
Why do so many people think that if you aren’t as upset as they are that you are “blind?” I’m perfectly happy to complain about MS when I feel it’s justified. I have like 5 threads on this forum complaining about their policy on the X1 joysticks - appropriately placed in the off-topic section.
MKX died on PC because NRS and WB decided not to continue to update it. Not because the platform was unsupported by the PC community. The way MS is releasing the game should make it MORE likely that any updates that come to Xbox will come automatically to PC - not less. This isn’t going to be the same as MK X no matter what. It may still be a fiasco - but it won’t be like MK X.
The idea that the game might not run well is always a concern for every game. It’s not an illegitimate consideration and I would certainly encourage you to try KI before you buy it. This is especially easy given the games free to play model. I wouldn’t worry overly about IG’s porting skills. I don’t think the Divekick example is appropriate. People complain about KI’s budget but I think the budget for Divekick was $1.50 and they spent $1.25 getting a soda out of the vending machine. (it’s a joke guys - no offense intended to IG)
I don’t think anyone has ever said, on this forum or anywhere, if the game is a busted ■■■ piece of ■■■■ on PC that people should still buy it.
But that concern is not coupled to the Windows Store. Arkham Knight didn’t sell on the Windows Store. MK 9 and Injustice - both considered terrible PC ports - launched on Steam. Plenty of games don’t run well without the benefit of whatever hassle you associate with the Windows store.

They can absolutely cancel support for the PC version and only update the Xbox One version, canceling cross play in the process
This is true, but it’s equally true if they release it on Steam - because that’s what happened with Mk X. So it isn’t a Windows Store issue. And remember, at the end of the day you are back to “no KI on PC.” Which is where you were a year ago. I mean, I don’t know how you want to manage that type of risk. It’s ultimately up to you. But if you wait until MS has proven that they will support the game for year before buying it… Then you are going to miss out on the game.
If they did this with KI, they could just say "all your progress can be accessed on the Xbox One version, no refunds
I don’t think they could do this. But again, you will have to decide how risky this is. If this is the kind of thing that keeps you up at night - then you just aren’t going to buy the game. I can make the same case - what if the next windows update introduces a bug in my system that makes it incompatible with a game I like (something I bought). THe developer will blame Windows and Windows will blame the developer and I can’t play but I’m not getting a refund. This happens. That’s one of the joys of PC gaming.
I highly doubt MS will ever stop supporting KI on PC. The versions are tied together (unlike PC to console MKX) and it’s just extremely unlikely that the difficulty in keeping both versions up to date is difficult enough to cancel the project, especially after the initial setup is done.
Even if UWP ends up being a bust, it will take a few years to figure that out, and it’s hard to imagine KI dying even then (because the servers are tied to Xbox Live, unlike GFWL).
I would have more sympathy for this point except that part of the reason we only have three stages is linked to the efforts it took to get this game up and running for the portbeggars to begin with.
I will admit I am not very knowledgeable about PC gaming but if the game runs and plays the way it was intended to like it does on the XB1 version I don’t see what the issues are. Obviously if one of these settings hinders performance of the game then ok, people need to speak up about it but people getting angry because they can’t make a nude Sadira mod or w.e doesn’t really seem like a valid complaint/concern or something that game devs should even have to worry about when making a PC game.
IMO the game functioning and playing the way it was intended to like it’s console counterpart is what should be important.
Yeah, because the same people that work on the port work on stages.
Are you stupid?
“Portbeggars” is a term which is clearly going to draw ire, but directly calling someone stupid isn’t ok either.
It’s fine to disagree or debate but please keep things civil, both of you.
