I think Celldweller and Atlas Plug are doing a great job, and the focus on rock (my favorite genre) is not a bad thing at all to me.
The only track I have an issue with is Rash’s theme. I liked how it sounded in the original trailer, but now it’s mostly just a retro version of main theme.
wait; its a been soon to judge; i thought they were average until i heard more of their music and then i was surprised. Mick definitely had diversity but outside of sabrewulf’s, glacius’ and orchid’s theme in s1, everything was rock-esk. who knows, maybe they wont be as diverse as mick but tusk’s and kim wu’s theme sound pretty kickass. if theres anything KI has taught me, its this;
it doesnt have to be the same as it used to, to be awesome.
I’ll just say that there is a reference to Tusk’s old theme (if you listen to the trailer you’ll hear it) and it sounds very fitting imho.
I@m going to be blunt about this, so if any of my comments sound harsh, apologies in advance:
Mick Gordon is Mick Gordon, with his own style, techniques and collaborative ideals.
Celldweller and Atlas Plug aren't Mick Gordon. They will do their own thing regardless.
I'm personally a fan of all the tracks so far, besides a few tiny elements and one significant one on certain tracks (rash's ultra lacking a true chord progression is the significant one and overproduction on the K-pop vocals in Kim Wu's theme is a less significant one)
The themes are more varied than you might think - once you get to hear them in game you'll hopefully be able to appreciate that there are many different elements to them. For example, Kim does have a dance/techno vibe to her track in certain sections, as shown in the making of. Arbiter has orchestral elements as well as can be heard through gameplay streams, Rash has signature 8 bit sounds to accompany his theme/style and Tusk has a choir that overlays his theme to give it the suitably epic scale that the stage also seems to have.
Finally, in terms of the other 4 plus themes, I'd just say, in the immortal words of Rukari/IG< "stay tuned"
@Jukesy1992, would be interested to hear your thoughts on this one.
My qualm is the ultra notes seem weak and low ends and staccato hits could be heavier.
I do like Kim’s but arbiter and tusk themes are rather similar in execution to me.
People forget they traveled at the same time to record the same choir and create those two themes AT THE SAME TIME. music will sustain its inspiration and they musically have similar structure and minimal instrument variation. Oh well.
The best thing is the addition of selectable themes. We can avoid the ones we personally don’t care for. I don’t care much for Riptor, but I’d probably select Hisako theme for any stage ever. Glacius as well. Even Aganos. I’m personally tired of Jago theme so I’m excited to hear something like Sabrewulf theme on that stage now. Can’t wait to have Fulgore theme on Rebel Outpost or some contrasting duos like that.
Wouldn’t an epic sweeping theme like the Hero soundtrack been amazing for Kim or Tusk with a superior James Horner composition
I remember a lot of people going crazy for rash theme like it was the new youth serum so those people created that support of the chip tune remix of KI-
I had hoped Mick would have graced at least Tusk and Kim Wu but MS hired the new guys so I am looking forward to hear more in depth characterization in the themes, not just a guitar techno remix of what would have been.
Have you heard rashs 8 bit ultra music. It’s beyond godlike.
In saying that I get get enough of his track.
As someone said above you could lvl the same notes about micks tracks. Bar a few theyre all rock inspired.
