Since we saw both Kitana and Mileena in the Mortal Kombat 1 Official Announcement Trailer, does anybody think/believe that Jade would be a returning kombatant character on its fighter roster and above all would be returning in and for Mortal Kombat 1 as well? 
In MKX they left out Jade and nobody shut up about it. In MK11 they left out Mileena and nobody shut up about it till they brought her back (which I refuse to believe was their plan all along and was instead a last minute course correction). If all three of them aren’t here I’ll be shocked.

I wanna make a more detailed prediction about the game’s base roster but I feel like we need more information before I can. We need more data.

The fact Johnny Cage is returning sorta burns down that whole “Great Kung Lao” era doesnt it? Unless time travel is involved again, or NRS is trying to have their cake and eat it too, sorta speak.
Not that Im against Johnny Cage or him getting a Van Damme skin, but im curious exactly what decade this game is supposed to take place in. Ancient past or somewhere between the 80s or 90s.

And of course, we can’t have Johnny Cage without his potential love interest Sonya Blade by his side, right? 
Probably for the best to be honest. While it would be a really cool thing to do, there’s no way they’d make a game that would leave out so many of their big name heavies.
Sonya and Jax are probably locks.
If only those two were Kameo fighters…
I don’t have hatred for them. Their kids are less interesting. But Sonya, Jax, and Johnny are cool.

I dont necessarily hate those two, but they can probably sit one game out at least. Again, assuming MK1 isnt another “Take you child to work day” like MKx and 11 did with their rosters.
I mean wasn’t that the entire point of the Kombat Kids? To let the old timers take a rest and have the new generation fill the gaps? Only for NRS to backpeddle last minute by slapping both sides together, wasting roster slots.
Kombat Kids in general just feel redundant at this point. Idk.
I think that was the plan but then they kind of changed how they wanted to go about things in the years afterwards. Honestly I’d be fine if characters like Jacqui and Cassie were gone for a while. They probably won’t be because apparently they’re popular but who knows.
Given that this is a new Universe I wasn’t surprised. I think we never should’ve expected stuff to be exactly as we saw in MK11
Remember how back in MK9 Johnny Cage told Raiden about this new power he had no control over? He went to the order realm to get it under control.
But by MKX they did not mention the order realm (implying he never went there) and that he discovered it during the fight with Shinnok.

Eh. Him talking to Raiden about his powers was just in the Arcade Mode endings which are kind of dubiously cannon because they all imply the character you used is the one who beat the big bad and saved the day. So they might introduce canon lore but the specific events that happen in them probably aren’t.
But it would be nice if they weren’t always so fast and loose with the story.

Yeah they did. Heck Reptile in MKX found members of his species never left earthrealm. Maybe in this universe, he lives with his people underground and this could work to make him someone who is not trying to find missing members of his race but protect them.
This doesn’t mean he’d be a good guy, but his conflicts with the heroes would concern his race. But I know that wont be in the story.

I am interested in seeing what they do with Reptile in this game. But I gotta say, I’ll kind of miss the dynamic of Shao Kahn and his posse of Power Rangers villains.
I hope Shao Kahn is back so bad man.

You know, since they probably aren’t doing a Great Kung Lao game, it would probably be fun to design a hypothetical roster for our own Great Kung Lao prequel game. I might do that, if people have input or opinions.

18/19/20. Kitana, Jade and Mileena(Safe to say, because of the twitter outrages Mileena will NEVER miss a game again. Guess NRS thought she wasnt that popular back in MKX aside from jiggle physics. Boy did that backfire in their faces… NOTE: I DO NOT condone the behaviors of those fans, fyi. Death threats is where I draw the line frankly.)
21/22. Gonna be a stretch, but it’d be cool to see Siro and Taja from MK Conquest as offical fighters. Again this is before any “Special Forces” so for the heroes in game, we’d just have normal fighters to start a new legacy. Plus they did assit Kung Lao on his journey in the show itself iirc.
- Maybe a brand new ninja? Not a typical color swap, but rather a brand new fighter who uses a plethera of ninjutsu weapons like a kama, ninja darts, kunais, nunchakus the whole lot. A walking arsenal character sorta like Erron Black, but more traditional, if that makes sense.
Or perhaps a new “Benkei” character, aka a wandering fighter who attacks souly by using the weapons of past warriors he’s killed. Still fitting in line with the time period. Maybe as a pawn for Shang Tsung in story mode.
(Now other ninjas like Smoke, Rain, Noob, Ermac etc… beats me if they’d add them onto the roster somehow. But if I had to make a guess…)
Maybe Smoke could be an ancestor to the one from MK9, but is already aware of the Enerna that makes his powers.
Noob, maybe its a different wraith, but shares his powers? Idk for some reason Im reminded of MK3 Noob where they used pallete swapped Kano as the base model instead of a ninja.
Rain is…just Rain, so he counts. Plus, I’ve always wanted to see him interact more with Kitana and Jade considering they’re all Edenian.
Ermac maybe could be the early prototype, not a withered mummy like he is in MK9 and X, but rather a warrior in peak physical condition, only to reveal he’s way too unstable, so Shang has to return him to the Flesh Pits for further experiments.
Lastly maybe some more 3D era fighters that would match the ancient astetic, like Hotaru and the order realm, Havik, Dairou, Nitara, even Onaga as the big bad guy, but that might be asking too much.
Not really a final roster, but just spitballing some choices I’d like to see personally.

I remember liking the idea of ancestors of Sonya, Jax, and Johnny who fulfill similar archetypes and personalities but fit the time period. Like Shakespearean Johnny Cage or Civil/Revolutionary War Jax and Sonya. But it depends on how far back in time you want to have this. Like, how long ago did the Great Kung Lao actually live?
