If MK12 really does follow up on the whole “great kind Lao tournament” idea then yes, that would be pretty great. Just too bad that Shang Tsung is a major player in that story and he was erased from existence.
Man, I really can’t think about MK11’s story cause it just makes me more mad as time goes on. It makes the idea of “MK12” just seem unexciting.
I’d pick both, just because I think some fun stuff could be done with those two. Whether it’s Nitara’s vampire abilities or the gameplay possibilities that her wings provide or Ashrah’s light abilities, both characters have potential, especially in terms of the writing.
Considering she’s also gonna be in the movie and has a generally higher fan following then Ashrah, yeah, I think that’s who they would pick too. Even if I want Ashrah way more personally.
For the film, who knows. I can see them getting rid of the wings. But I imagine them sticking around if she came to the games. She would kind of need them to be made into a substantially different character from Skarlet.
I wonder if they’d model her after and have her voiced by the actress playing her in the film?
Alright. I wanted to address a very nitpicky problem I have with MK11. The character select. It really feels like the characters are kind of just.. there. In a pretty random order. So I wanted to re-order it and put.. a little more thought into the layout. I’m still using the same 6x7 grid though.
I also added my DLC predictions to the list and will explain them after I go over the new order.
New Select Order and Explenations
Row 1: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Jax Briggs (The characters who are basically the protagonists)
Row 2: Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, Jade, Kabal, Noob Saibot (The revenants all in a row)
Row 3: Kano, Baraka, Skarlet, Kollector, Nitara, Cetrion (the villains/Shao Kahn’s minions)
Row 4: Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Takahashi Takeda, D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Erron Black (The MKX characters)
Row 4: Geras, Frost, Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator (the first 3 DLC characters, the pre-order bonus, the only character you need to actually unlock, and Geras because of overflow)
Row 5: Sindel, Joker, Spawn, Sheeva, Fujin, Robocop (at this point it’s just the DLC characters in release date order)
Row 5: Rain, John Rambo, Mileena, Havik, The Tekunin, Ash Williams
DLC Predictions and Explenations
First off, the release model. I think it is very likely we will get two characters for free and then one more Kombat Pack. Partly because there are 5 characters left and that’s just.. a weird number for them. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the strategy is to put out two characters in a free update around the launch of the movie (or at the very least, early in the year) to stoke the fire of sales on next gen hardware before launching into the final kombat pack and it’s characters. I will go into my reasoning on each pick now.
Free Update
Takahashi Takeda: I think this is the one MKX character that didn’t make it over that people really want back. And I think he makes sense to implement as part of this expansion, especially since it’s more of a reward for diehard fans then a character who would really sell on his own. Just make him do more with his whips.
Nitara: Her coming in to promote the MK movie just makes too much sense. After all, she if the only main cast member of the film that isn’t already in the game. And it just makes more sense to me to add her in a free update rather then expecting people to essentially pay a fee to be advertised to. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great character who would absolutely sell well. But combined with the fact that she’s a 3D era character.. I just think she makes more sense here.
Kombat Pack 3
Havik: I think Havik is probably the single most requested character to return from the 3D era, to the point that they really could justify saving him for the grand finale. A lot of people would be cheering to see him back and it would be really interesting to see how they overhaul him for this title.
The Tekunin: I’ve said it before, but if you look at Cyrax and Sektor’s in game models in 11, they’re basically identical. They just have different heads. They don’t even have different chest plates. That combined with the fact that the art used for the Cyber Smoke and Cyber Sub-Zero heads in their tower consumables are both new models of their heads rather then the MKX ones leads me to believe that they’ve been tinkering around with a kind of… Tri-Borg 2.0. More like the Ninja Turtles in Injustice then Triborg actually was. Meaning they would each have unique lines of dialogue and voices. Heck, you could probably even just reuse a majority of Sub-Zero’s ones with a few new ones for the characters who would actually have something different to say to him. I see it working like this. Sektor is the main character, his other two tournament variations are Cyrax and Smoke, with Subbie being a bonus. You choose your head as one of your gear pieces, and that’s what determines what name the announcer calls out and who does the in game talking. The custom moves for each version are all interchangeable. You want Cyrax’s buzzsaw and Sektor’s missles? Sure, why not! But there is a custom move similar to Shang Tsung’s one which gives him all of the Ninja moves which takes up 3 slots and basically gives you all of the “Sektor” moves for example. One for each cyber ninja. And like the TMNT, you are given each head and each appropriate color scheme from the beginning rather then having to grind to unlock them. Though there are bonus extra versions to unlock in the towers. I would also love it if they gave each one a unique super move and unique finishers, but I can see why that might be a bit more costly then they’d want.
Ash Williams: Now that Spawn’s been covered, Ash is definitely the most requested guest character in all of MK history. Especially after doing Freddy in one game and then Jason in the next, we just need Ash to complete the trilogy. And as for the whole “he was scrapped” thing. I have a few points. Mainly it’s that he and Robocop are owned by the same company, and no offense to Evil Dead fans, but the two franchises are on similar levels of general pop culture knowledge. To the point I have trouble believing MGM would upcharge for one and not the other. I do think there was a chance he got scrapped from the first Kombat Pack. It does kind of make sense. They were coming under fire for their bad crunch development culture and made a big deal out of publicly restructuring their pipeline. And Joker is a character they’ve done twice before in two other games. Then for And then after that.. well, Ash is a great beginning and a great end, but he makes a kind of confusing middle. Like, Rambo is cool, but if he were in the last group of characters we were ever gonna get after getting some massive ones like Terminator, Spawn, and hypothetically Ash, well he would be kind of a letdown and would be greatly overshadowed by what came before him. This strategy gives Rambo a chance to have the spotlight to himself for a bit before becoming a footnote. So at that point you end up with a DLC lineup where the first guest character you announce is one of your most requested ones ever, and then so it your last. This narrative just makes so much more sense to me then “MGM got greedy and then he was scrapped”.. Like, that’s not even how companies work. Especially if he was far in enough to have assets made like some of these stories depict. Having the deal cancelled by that point and breaking whatever contracts they had signed would actually probably cost MGM more money then it would be worth. That’s what contracts are for.
Thats a hard one. Though I think I’d go with Ashra
Mow I heard somewhere the datamined suggests that the final roster completes a rectangle.. Now that means we could be looking at another kombat but who knows. But I’m still going with my "All possible info is false till proven otherwise.
I keep saying it. 5 more characters. No idea how they’re gonna roll them out. But I do know it’s coming. Check a few posts up for my specific predictions.
Havik is way too likely, and I think Nitara is more likely then Ashrah (despite how much I want her). And.. well. I’m sorry about Reptile. I also think it might be possible that we will only get one more guest character and not 2. But that is a pretty solid list of predictions.
And no way the Tekunin wouldn’t be Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, and Cyber-Sub Zero
Alright. I just thought of something. I’m not saying it will happen, but it’s a hypothetical I want to float by.
So, after the final 5 characters are released (for the sake of argument: Takeda, The Tekunin, Nitara, Havik, Ash Williams), around May or June of 2021, this hypothetical would then happen. Two new collums of characters (meaning 14) released slowly in the following order.
Summary
July 2021: Reptile, Ermac, and Tremor
August 2021: Brand New Character who is transgender
September 2021: Blaze and Hornbuckle
October 2021: The Mask
November 2021: James Bond
December 2021: Sareena and Ashrah
January 2022: Guts (Berserk)
February 2022: Bayonetta
March 2022: Liu Kang and Kitana’s twin son and daughter. A tag team style character.
April 2022: Argus
We would also get a new story campaign, with a new chapter released each month in an episodic format centering around each character as they are released. Except for the Guest Characters. Motaro also makes a return as a new unplayable boss fight.
A year long campaign of constant support and new content to keep people playing this game and keep MK in the public conscious while only having a smaller team working on it while the rest of the studio moves on to something else. What do you think? How would you react?
Interesting, but unlikely. Also potentially dangerous for both fans as well as NetherRealm, just because they would really be pushing it. MK11 is an impressive though flawed package overall, but the addition for more stuff could potentially backfire. In my opinion, it would be better to finish with the three that are already released (Rambo, Rain and Mileena), maybe finish up with a fourth character in the form of Ash and be done with it, just because it has to end at some point.
I think they should at the very least complete the grid. Which would be 5 more characters after this pack. That other stuff was really just.. dreaming.
