Yeah, and redoing every stage can’t be cheap either.
So someone had to make the decision of re lighting all the old stages instead of making new ones.
I think that is why a few people might be ticked off about the news, and the way it was delivered. I think most of us have been spoiled with different stages and awesome music for each and were looking forward to more of what we love.
Agreed. I look forward to the new stages and music almost as much as characters.
I’m actually 100% with you on this. This was my first thought as I saw that screenshot, actually. “Wow, the stage looks really nice but the characters are a lot darker and blend in to the surroundings, don’t they?”
If you look at stages that are chosen in tournaments, every single of them is bright and the characters are easily identifiable (Aganos and Thunder stages are the most common for this reason, and people refuse to play on darker/heavily colored stages like Cinder because they can’t see the characters well enough). I’m all for the “darker” aesthetic that S3 is going for in general, as per the news post, as long as we can see the characters extremely well.
As @rukizzel said, this is something that we’ll have to see in motion, because static screenshots can be misleading sometimes, but I really hope the characters are extremely crisp and bright against the backgrounds in the final game.
If the sacrifice of only 3 stages means Ultimates for the whole roster, then its a deal.
If there’s only 3 stages, we’ve already seen two of them. Kim Wu’s and the Halo stage. Im assuming Tusk will get a stage and thats it, folks.
It is shocking. Three seasons in, I’ve come to expect every character, minus Omen, to get their own stage.
Confirmed no ultimates
I think the last stage is for the new character. One for guests, one for old,and one for new. I want 1 for each:(
Hmm Shadow Tiger’s Lair fits him so much that it feels like it’s his too. 50/50.
I think the lighting looks great, but I do question choosing to update the lighting over creating actual new content.
A lot of people are blowing this out of proportion. Is it disappointing? Yes. Is it a “disaster”? No.
With the 3 new stages, that’s going to bring the amount of stages up to like what? 20? That’s a ton.
I’ll give you that but my point still stands
40 3D stages.

I confirm, I am very disappointed, I do not know how to communicate this news on my page Killer Instinct Italy on FB, I will not give this news to the followers …
And half of them looks bland as sh*t, I rather have quality over quantity
That were mostly from the past storm games? Your point still stands.
…and your point? What was that game’s budget? When was it released? Is that a 3D game or does it use sprites? How big was the game’s team?
KI is a budget fighter made by a very small team. In-fact, teams switched, so a small team had to pick up and learn another small team’s work – and make new content.
What KI has achieved is impressive.
People have every night to be disappointed by this news, regardless of how you personally feel about it.
