Honestly, if there were really going to be any sort of Nintendo/Microsoft kid pro quo it would probably be some sort of Nintendo character in KI. Not in a complete other game made by a complete separate company.

Well, we don’t know that there was an quid pro quo between Nintendo and MS. Of course, MS has been mighty helpful to Nintendo in the last year, so who knows. My guess is that MS gets to put one of their characters that hasn’t appeared in a game since the early 360 days in to a popular game and get eyes on him. Also guessing that releasing certain titles on Switch has given them a few more dollars out of those games. Beyond that, I’d be kinda surprised if Nintendo would be looking to “pay MS back” in the form of having a guest character in KI or something along those lines but again, who knows.
WAY ahead of you, and from all of those likes, I’m not the only one who’d appreciate King K. Rool in Killer Instinct…

King K Rool is one of my mains in Smash Ultimate. I’ve been wanting him in smash bros sense brawl.
Bowser and Ganon for KI.
Does make ya wonder what they plan on doing with Killer Instinct for the Xbox Scarlett. Assuming they are even working on it.
Hopefully it’s a launch title like last time.
Welp I hope they had enough time to work on it.
I mean, how long has it been since post-S3 finished?
3 years at least.
That’s enough time to get a pretty full season 1 done (especially if they reuse assets so most, of not all, of the veterans join on day 1). Assuming they do seasons like the last one, I could very well see KI2 as a launch title.
Who would be working on it?
A new developer maybe?
I personally think they would be working on new assets and not reusing too many of them. Best quality of work cannot be rushed. Nor should it be. But hey, if it doesn’t become a launch title then no worry.
I wouldn’t mind Iron Galaxy doing the development again. They did an awesome job with the last 2 seasons.
Yeah I’m trying to remember how much time Double Helix had to work on KI and I feel like it was a VERY short turnaround. Maybe less than a year even? Of course, we don’t know how long any developers have had Scarlett dev kits, so it’s hard to assume they’ve been working on the game itself for three years. Still, we know that PS5 dev kits are out in the wild already, so it’s safe to assume Scarlett dev kits are as well, and we’re a little under a year away from launch (presumably).
I hope Iron Galaxy is working on a sequel. It’d be awesome if they had everything done but the actual programming and that’s what they’re working on now with the dev kits. They had such fun character designs in seasons two and three.
I don’t necessarily think it’s a problem at this stage. They can reuse animations and basic models while retouching and rebuilding some when needed. Reusing assets doesn’t necessarily mean they’re just plonking down the old ones in the new game with no changes. Heck, taking an existing character model and animation and modifying it, rather than making a new one from scratch, is rather common in fighting game development (the best example being Smash. Where game data shows ya things like Cloud being built off of Ike or Bayonetta being built off of Wii Fit Trainer.
Your right about that, but I think they might want to also give an updated look for some of the characters.
Which is entirely possible while still reusing assets.
Reusing a rigged skeleton but putting it on a brand new model is still reusing assets.
Which reminds what ideal design do you think would be a good for some of the characters.
I want Sabrewulf to go Professor Hulk on ya. Have him stand upright and act like Konrad, only looking like a wolf, with a more regal fighting style. Then for instinct mode he crouched down and enters “feral mode” where he plays more like classic Wulf.
Also, merge Kilgore and Fulgore into one and give him a stance swap combo ended.
Also, just have Shin Hisako, but give her regular Hisako’s counter meter thing.
