Yeah, I definitely hope that we get more Killer Instinct as well. This game had insanely fun characters, modes and gameplay, and I’d love to see what MS and IG could do with a sequel that was built from the ground up with all the lessons, ideas, concepts etc gleaned from making this game.
As much as this game had going against it initially, I’d call it a highly successful experiment in creativity and execution. As much as I enjoy many of the games this genre has to offer, I’ve never been hooked on a game for this long, and I have no desire to stop playing anytime soon.
I’m sure you have to move on to several other projects that you’re no doubt juggling at the moment, Adam, but I hope you won’t let the other decision makers at MS forget about how well this game turned out and the following it generated.
I really think that a sequel could come in to the market with several advantages and far fewer disadvantages than this current game had, which could make it both a welcome addition for KI and fighting enthusiasts, but also yield a potentially greater return on investment financially without having such a steep climb out of the gate like this game had.
Obviously I’m just guessing here, but given where this game started:
Six characters
Online only
A payment system that was hard to explain
XB1 only
Launch title
Made by an unknown developer
Versus where it finished:
29 exceedingly unique characters
Several unique modes
Two retail releases
A kick ■■■ comic
Action figures
A reputation for superb online play
Ported to PC and Steam
Iterated on for two seasons by a very much up and coming Iron Galaxy
I’d have to think that people would look at the growth of this game, everything you guys have been able to do with it and the player base growth over the course of the seasons and see the potential for future investment in a sequel that’s rebuilt from the ground up to be bigger and better than this wonderful foundation.
Okay, fan goggles off lol. I really do believe all of this, as someone that’s been playing tons of fighting games since the early days. I really think it’s a worthwhile game that MS would be wise to turn in to a reliable franchise. I know there’s always more going on behind the scenes than we’ll ever know as fans, but it’s my sincerest hope that this game, awesome as it’s been, isn’t left to history.
But either way, I’d really like to thank MS for giving this game a final send off both with the comic, as well as with the tourney pots at Combo Breaker and CEO. I know the Kilgore fund was going to have to go to something, but as a fan that enjoys watching high level play, it’ll be great to see some of the better players duking it out on stream for some nice prizes again this year.
TL/DR: I really appreciate all that MS and IG did with this game!
