Injustice 2

Yes, I heard he is getting a DC comic series called Space Ghost Future Quest. It is certainly possible he could show up in Injustice 2, though it is extremely unlikely.

Then he is definitely a potential character for Injustice 2.
Not sure if he is popular, or relevant, enough to be on the roster though.

What can he do?

Cartoon planet was where I remember him from. And even then it’s in bits and peices lol

Flight
Super Strength
Endurance
Teleportation
Invisibility
Variable energy blasts

Hm… seems rather standard. Kinda seems like they just threw whatever power they could come up with at him, kinda like Superman.

His personality especially the uber dry humor is what appeals to me.

I think he could be a hybrid Gouki and Raiden. Play style wise.

Saw some footage of him on youtube, I kinda like the old-school humour. :stuck_out_tongue:
He could probably be a DLC joke character, but not sure how else he would fit in.

Batgirl may have been unnecessary but I really thought she had a fun play style. So even though she is a logical character to leave behind I really hope they bring her forward.

Well, Batgirl is unnecessary the way Supergirl is unnecessary, more or less simply being female versions of already established male characters, lacking a certain uniquity to them.

Yet here we are… having Supergirl and Superman in the same game.
I’m not one for clone-characters, but I’m not working on the game, and apparently, NRS like them.
So there’s still a chance Batgirl will be in the game.

The latest update reveals the largest roster of DC characters ever so I’d imagine not many will be eliminated except scorpion

I hadn’t really thought of it that way. I can see from a lore point of view that they have the same powers, but in the context of the game they are very different. Or at least could be very different. Sort of brings up an interesting philosophical point on what we mean by “clone” character.

Understatement of the year…lol

To me, the term “clone character” covers all the ones that are palette swaps, those who share the same look/model, genderbent version of another character, those who share the same moves/powers, dark/evil/shadow/alternate versions of another character, etc.

So take Street Fighter for example, as Capcom is one of the worst offenders of this.
They have Ryu as the original shoto. He might be boring and typical, but there’s no arguing that he is the original.
His clones are:

  • Ken (palette swap)
  • Akuma (palette swap)
  • Evil Ryu (dark version of Ryu)
  • Sagat (though he has a different look, he shares Ryu’s main moves, such as the fireball and uppercut)
  • Sakura (female version)
  • Dan (palette swap, but with weaker versions of Ryu’s moves)
  • Sean (palette swap)
  • Allen (SFEX palette swap)
  • Kairi (SFEX shared moves)
  • Gouken (alternate version of the original moves)
  • Makoto (shares the same look as Ryu)
  • Oni (alternate version of Akuma)

And I might even have missed a few.
Even Cammy, my favourite SF character, has clones.

  • Juni (palette swap, same moves)
  • Juli (palette swap, has a few alternate moves but overall the same as Cammy)
  • Decapre (palette/model swap, is kinda an “evil” version of Cammy)
And that’s not to mention the rest of M. Bison’s “Dolls” who are all young girls dressed in the same uniform and who probably all share the same fighting style.

Mortal Kombat might have alot of palette swaps who have over the years gotten their own more unique looks, Ermac being the best example of it, and Frost might be a female Sub-Zero, but Street Fighter takes the bill.

Point with all of this is… I don’t like these clone characters. I prefer originality and uniquity! I don’t want several characters sharing the same powerset, the same looks etc, in the same roster. So if Superman is on the roster, I see no reason for someone like Supergirl to be there too. The same with Batgirl and Batman in the first game.

Here’s the thing though… if those characters evolved past their former clone-ness (if that’s a word) and became their own character, changing the way they use their powers to fit their own style that doesn’t look like the main character they’re inspired from, then that’s just awesome!

Power Girl, though technically a different character, is a great example of what Supergirl COULD be.
And Nigtwing is another great example of him being very different from Batman, though he was trained by him and use alot of the same gadgets as he does - where Batgirl still just looks like a female version of Batman… it’s even in the name.

I know alot of these characters were created years ago, hence why alot of them really lack a certain creativity and inspiration, but I see no reason why to put them in the same game. Instead of Supergirl we could have gotten Power Girl instead (though I realize the Supergirl show has a certain influence on her appearance in the game).

So yeah, that’s my whole opinion on the matter… sorry for the long rant. XD

It wasn’t a long rant, and I posed the question.

I draw a pretty big distinction between true clones (Ken and Ryu in SF 1 and 2), and between characters that no longer play the same or look the same even if they started out as clones. In MK the clones all looked the same, but played differently. This is also true for SF characters in some cases, but not in others. It seems like you care about both visual design and moveset.

Before this thread I would have told you wihout reservation that my own preference is to avoid clones, but I think it’s tough where to know to draw the line. For example, I think the variety among Shoto characters is pretty significant at this point, even though they all throw fireballs. I would be really hard pressed to say that Gouken is a clone character, just to pick on one from your list. In the same way, I just don’t see Superman and Supergirl or Batman and Batgirl as being clones - although I get what you are saying.

It is indeed hard to draw the line. Because as it were, I like Ken and Sean more than Ryu, even though Ryu is the “original”. And I kinda like Decapre as well, she just needs to shake off the Cammy look, which she kinda has in SFV (you’ll see in Story Mode). She just needs a new hairstyle, really.

Thing is, Decapre looks just like Cammy, as in she might be a canon clone of her. But Mileena from Mortal Kombat is also a canon clone of Kitana, but those two are looking very distinct from eachother, both in looks and gameplay now, so it is indeed possible for a “true” clone to become unique.

The devs just gotta want it and make those changes happen! But sometimes it is just easier to copy/paste, to save time and money… and I hate that’s a factor, but sadly, it is…

Between about 20-26 batman is flying…

The backgrounds look great and the graphics are good. I can’t say I’m a fan of the costume design - weird ridges and such. Supergirl’s looks especially odd. Hopefully there is a good looking alternate that is not a tasteless mess of “fan service.”

Gameply looks like NRS gameplay. It’s tough to complain if you get what you expect. Still, if the netcode is good this should be fun to play.

I really hope the netcode will be good! If they improve on their GGPO netcode which they added to MKX, it (hopefully) will be. ^^

This game looks pretty amazing! I know Im getting it!@ My son and I will have a blast playing this game!
He even knew who the Ape was… I was like how to you know his name? Apparently he is a popular character on the cartoon?

That’s so very awesome tha you share that love and legacy with your son. I love that.

Grodd is very primal! That bite hold is insane!
Once again, NRS rules the cosmetic and transition fighting game war.

Albeit the face textures look very flat, compared to the lush scenery. That pub stage is exquisitely gorgeous from an artistic standpoint.
