How else do you think they make money?
Yes, but⦠just⦠no.
Well, they beg to differ. Iām no fans of the series mainly because I donāt have a character that clicks or else I would play it. But heyā¦loyal fans are good fans.
Loyalty has itās rewards.
Itās called a money sink for a reason.
Like I said, gotta make money somehow.
I would just not want KI to down the same path.
You worry too much.
Well, true, because I know it wonāt.
Just underlining that I donāt want it to be so excessive and moneygrabbing as DOA5 is.
I think ten bucks per season is fair.
As long as IG keeps giving me ARIA stuff Iāll give them all the money. And Sadira too of course.
This is such a tough issue. On one hand, I want a lot more accessories and colors and stages and retro stages and what not. On the other hand, I canāt justify paying hundreds of dollars for in game items like that. I think DOA is a prime example of micro-transactions taken too far. At some point, youāre just bleeding your fanbase.
But the problem is that this tipping point is different for everyone. Some people are going to feel exploited even as some people ask for more more more. You canāt please everyone.
My suggestion would be for MS to take a poll and find out what people specifically want, how much of it they want as well as how much theyāre willing to spend and try to find the best compromise between price and quantity for a single pack that will please the most people.
Maybe even provide a time frame for anticipated price drops, like āthis pack will have two new stages, two retro stages, a new set of three accessories for two characters in each season and a new color for two other characters in each season. Total price: $15. After three months, the price drops to $12. After another three months, it drops to $9. Buy in the first three month to get an exclusive icon.ā
Something like that. Now obviously they have to make money off of this, so who knows if Iām anywhere in the neighborhood price-wise, work-wise or content-wise, but I think the idea still stands: Take the pulse of the fanbase on this and find a way to both give as many people what they want and potentially open up a new revenue stream as well.
Create it
Charge for it
We pay we receive the goods
they make the money
everyoneās happy
It would never ever happen but here is what I would love to see.
Ki costume pack one IG redesign of all season 1 characters.
Ki pack 2-3
DH guest artists do a redesign of what they wouldāve done for season 2-3 characters
I know this might sound bad, but I donāt know how else to word it. Yes I am one of the Ultra owners, and would sort of be upset if they did that kind of crap. The whole reason I bought the ultra was so I did not need to buy all the little things. The color 10s donāt bother me, because I just see it as IG made those so people that get the figures can show they have it. It is like they made these colors and sold them to another company. I did fight for shadow Jago color 11 though, because I already bought one of the limited ones.
As an Ultra owner I already feel jerked around. Part of what I paid extra for was to have S3 content 5 days faster and that has not been the case for half of it.
I am not trying to fight with you at all. We have the same views on several things.
I look at it like this, if I bought a first class ticket, then no way would I let the airline put me in coach.
So youād rather the extra content stop because you donāt want to pay for it?
I mean that sounds pretty selfish to me, no offense intended. The ultra editions give you all the content in a given season, if they made more costumes for the season one cast that content would fall outside of that āpassā because season one has ended. Its sounding more like the idea of not having everything is more upsetting to you than actually not having everything because youāve made up your mind that the color 10s are out of your reach and not part of what youāre entitled to.
Personally yeah, Iād pay for more content. Iāve dumped about $300 into this game over the last three years give or take and Iād rather shell out a little more on the side if it means I can get extra content that I desperately desire. If I could buy more colors for Omen or some accessories for Shago youād better believe Iād drop $5 for some new items. I love the game and I want more content.
As for your Airplane analogy, it doesnāt really work for me. The ultra edition lived up to its promise of 8 characters, 8 costumes and 16 premium accessory sets per season, nowhere did it ever say youād get content for life for those characters, so we got what we paid for. I think of it more like the airline is selling optional snacks for a few dollars so you have a snack while you travel. Iām not entitled to free snacks for life because I bought one ticket and Iām not entitled to every piece of DLC because I bought a season of KI.
Now if the additional costumes had been released DURING the seasons, yeah Iād be a little sore but thatās not the case. If they did put out more stuff you wouldnāt need to buy it, just like as you know you arenāt required to buy the figures for color 10. I understand the desire to have everything in games, Iām a digital content hoarder but I know if I expect to get something I have to pay and Iād rather do that than never get more DLC.
Sorry for the rant, again not trying to argue with you either but given the choice its a no brainer.
The holiday outfits come to mind. They were extra and did not cost the ultra owners an extra dime. I am not saying extra items wouldnāt be cool to have, I am just saying that I would prefer not to pay extra for them. I am just one of those people who like to know the total cost upfront. If IG sold a Holy ā ā ā ā Big ā ā ā ā version that contained everything they would ever make for KI, then in would have got that one.
Heāll i would be ok with them using KI gold to sell it.
I suppose thatās just where we differ.
I to like to buy the big bundle with any game I get but I know that in the fine print its going to tell me what it contains and I know if they do anything else Iām going to pay for it if I have to. I guess it all just comes down to how much you enjoy something, to me paying for extras just enhances my experience.
Plus KI has been sold on a season to season basis, season 3 is now over excluding Shadow Lords mode coming later this year so anything sold after that wouldnāt be governed by the season pricing model. Anywho, Iām really not trying to change your mind about it, I just feel that new content outweighs the inconvenience of having to pay for it.
I guess it would depend on what it is. I know that I am.not going to spend 40 on the disk version. For the Gargos color. Are you?
I donāt think $30 for an extra costume set for every character would be too much to ask. Maybe even some of the profits go to some free items like stages for the rest of season 3. There is so many potentials for cool new outfits or alternate style costumes.
- Cinder: we could get ben ferris or the original cinder alien concept
- A Gargos skin that looks like omens instinct or a alternate costume for omen that looks like that it could be his ātrue formā
- Shadow jago retro looks like a corrupt retro jago maybe normal accessories for shago.
- Tj alt time line. How he looks currently but with eyepatch and looking more beat up.
- A saberwulf with robot arms and wires all over.
- Aria the season one teaser design for her.
- Mira before transformation in night guard armor
- Rash a pimple and zit costume set
- Spinal a human version before he was turned to bone.
- Kan rah a human version in full robes looking rich and Wealthy
- Riptor a more serpent style look
- Glacius I tbink a spawn costume would be sick
- Hisako a human version in warrior armor
- Orchid Joanna dark costume
Just some ideas off the top of my head.
Probably.
Or maybe Iāll just buy the disc for my cousin, or nephew and keep the Gargos color code and special features disc. Either way Iām getting that skin, I love Gargos and Iām not squeamish about dropping a few bucks to support KI and put a smile on someoneās face.
