Some ‘Boarderlands’ characters could be fun. Despite the games’ focus on guns, Brick, Athena, zer0, Krieg, Tiny Tina, Mr. Torgue, Handsome Jack, and either of the Sirens could all potentially work.
Why yes, I am downloading the latest instalment of ‘Tales from the Boarderlands’ right now.
Or for a property that Microsoft actually owns, Steve from ‘Minecraft’.
You’re right he isn’t really involved because he plays a ton of other games more than I do but he is still concerned since he loves the game still and he echoes my concerns too so imagine even those not as passionate as me think the same way. It isn’t just he and I, I have spoken to others and the forum here is also divided on the idea. It isn’t one big resounding YES to Rash or the idea, and you must admit that even if a grand majority like an idea it doesn’t automatically make it good or correct.
You must admit that if Rash is here and taking up a player slot, then why isn’t Conker the Squirrel a good idea, or Banjo the Bear? We can even have Horstacio from Viva Pinata, the point is this may open the door to other bad ideas and it is obviously possible to steer off track.
Size doesn’t mean anything in a fight. Conker can fight dirty, Banjo can be a creative fighter, and Horstacio can have explosion confetti attacks. The reality is you can make your imagination go wild and it is all possible but does it fit?
Nobody should ever have to play AS or AGAINST characters from Viva Pinata, Conker, Minecraft, Banjo-Kazooie or Looney Toons in KI. Ever.
There have been so many horrifyingly terrible ideas in this thread. If we’re going to be forced to deal with Guests they need to be actual fighters with dark enough backgrounds and themes to fit the modern KI - the proposals of Hellboy and Spawn are both pretty good, but I’d like to see a Gears character (Marcus, Cole, or a Locust of some sort) if we HAVE to have another Guest.
Right on, but we don’t HAVE to as you say. It just makes me sad to think 8-9 character slots, take away 3-4 for Kim, Tusk, Gargos, possibly Eyedol you only have 4-5 left for new characters, take away 2-3 slots for stupid guests, you’re left with possibly 2 new characters…
This is a loaded statement, because it implies Rash is a bad idea. While some people think so, there are plenty who don’t. Myself included. I admit, I’m getting a bit fatigued by this thread because it consists of people just dressing the same complaints in new clothing and trotting them out as if they were additional complaints. We get it. Some of you don’t think Rash “fits” the dark, brooding, pre-pubescent metal fan idea that you have in your head for KI. Duly noted. We will set aside for the moment that “it doesn’t fit,” doesn’t actually mean anything other than “I don’t like it.”
In answer to your question - there’s nothing to stop them from adding Viva Piñata characters, except that they won’t because there is literally no reason to. That game is essentially non-violent, and anything they made to put piñatas in KI would be made up from scratch. There’s no way to tie it in, and why would they want to? Battletoads makes good sense in the context of a fighting game. Everything Rash does in KI is pulled more or less directly from the Battletoads game. It’s like adding Guy, Cody and Haggar from Final Fight into Street Fighter. Just because you are too stubborn to admit it doesn’t mean it’s not so. Asking if the inclusion of Rash might lead to the inclusion of Viva Piñata characters is like asking if the inclusion of Predator in MKX makes it likely they will include characters from Gone Girl, Paper Towns or the Peanuts Movie - after all, these are all 20th Century Fox pictures. It’s inane. I’ve never been a huge fan of Battletoads, but I love Viva Piñata. It still makes way more sense to have Rash in the game than a piñata. It’s self evident. And by the way, as far as I can tell it’s working. Rash generated a lot of buzz for KI, and lots of buzz around the idea that they will have a future Battetoads game. That’s the point of guest characters.
As far as this nonsense about guest characters not taking up a “slot,” it’s just another way of complaining. You have no idea how many characters are coming with Season 3. It could be 4, or it could be 12. They haven’t made any announcement about it. So if they release 6 “regular” characters and 3 guests, are those characters “taking up a slot” or not? What if they release 8 regular characters and 2 guests. The idea that “occupying a slot” is somehow a meaningful distinction is ridiculous. The guest characters will be characters in the game. If they weren’t working on guest characters, they would spend that time working on some other aspect of the game. The guests are a part of the game. At some point, you just have to deal with it. They count. I don’t say S1 has 7 characters just because I don’t like Sadira… I HATE Gargos. He’s just a dumb, puffy looking Gargoyle who ripped off moves from better KI characters. Many people feel the same way about Eyedol. If they put those characters in the game, they are taking slots that could be used for other, better characters. That’s how it works.
I’m trying not to lose it and rage out on the new forums, but all this whining and fussing is making me start to hope that they add Kirby and a Smurf or two to the game…
I don’t like metal music at all and Viva Pinata has violence in it, some piñatas attack others, there are predators that invade your garden and the act of hitting a piñata is violent
If Spawn were to reappear on an MS platform again, he could allow for Scorpion-like gameplay mechanics… And if we didn’t get Keith David to do Gargos’ voice, he certainly IS Spawn!
Have you played ‘Conker’s Bad Fur Day’? Sure there’s humour – of a sort – and a cartoony aesthetic, but it’s not exactly a light-hearted romp. Spoilers for a 14 year old game: Conker’s girlfriend, who he’s trying save, gets killed. At the end he monologues about how unhappy he is. After the credits, he gets drunk and wanders off into the rain. It’s kind of a downer.
However, I would question why everything needs to be dark? Sometimes you need a little bit of lightheartedness. ‘Killer Instinct’ certainly has a tone to it, but that tone manages to accommodate a range of characters. It’s a game where a skeleton pirate fights a cyborg dinosaur. And sure, Spinal’s story is that he’s cursed to wander the Earth, blah blah blah, but he’s still bouncing around the stage, yukking it up.
