I was gonna take you seriously until this sentence.
@VeganOrganism Oh please. The 8Bit organizers aren’t insulting you. That’s apparently our job.
The letter was directed to the community at large because some of us don’t even understand what we are doing is wrong, and they just want to get the word out there and alert us to the issue.
Whether or not the chat was moderated well, the problem that they are noting of members of the community being toxic exists regardless. We have prominent players directly insulting the developers, non-constructive complaints on the forums, and spreading of misinformation. 8Bit is not responsible for ANY of that. That’s the community. Not the ENTIRE community, but still.
Besides, this is a community that supports and encourages feedback and constructive criticism. So why would they want to ban people for voicing their opinions? That’s why they don’t have many moderators.
8Bit is not just a random streamer broadcasting the game, like Flash or HKSmash. They are the signature stream for free offline tournaments and getting the community together. So I think they have every right to write a letter to the community expressing their disappointment.
I don’t get why it is so wrong to use their names, or why 8bit just didn’t tell them that was disrespectful and will not be tolerated. They did not care when they were starting crap in the stream, so why should we care about not pointing them out for being ■■■■■■ I think the letter would have done alot more good if they would have used their names and said “this behavior will not be tolerated” . I would be money that people would think about it, if they knew there was a chance they would get slammed by name.
They are just mad, because the tricks and combos that they have been using for over 2 years don’t work the same anymore, and they don’t want to take the time to relearn the character. They need to stop acting like being a pro player gives them special privalages.
Once again, we cannot call out offenders by their names. It doesn’t look good at all.
But, why? Why doesn’t it look good?
If this were to happen again, with the same people we know (for sure) were involved, would it still look bad to call them out for their bad behavior?
To be fair it’s against the forum rules to call out people on here.
I think @rukizzel can confirm this.
I do see “…refrain from personal attacks.” and “…verbally abusing […] an individual…”. ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯
It’s been almost a year since I read that. It seems a bit contrived that we can’t do much of anything to stop the people involved.
Yeah. But it is what its… I guess
No I disagree. You can stop them without getting their name out there.
“much of anything” Implies that something can be done, but options are limited through artificial or natural barriers. In this case, artificial.
I would like to read your thoughts on what can or should be done.
Personally, I’d like the 8BBD to take some responsibility for not having Moderators in the chat. I’d also like to see the people involved apologize for their actions.
I’m a fond believer of reap what you sow. The prime offenders have twitch channels right? They stream right? They wouldn’t appreciate what they did last sunday if it was them would they?
Lol that would be funny of the perpetrators of that 8 bit fiasco got the same treatment done to them. What goes around comes around I guess.
The problem is that the ones who stream would ban for doing that to them. I have seen the streamers ban for less.
The problem with calling out individuals is that it escalates the conflict rather than diffusing it. Shining a spotlight on someone and saying “look over here, someone who was rude and inappropriate!!” Is likely to make them double down rather than calm down and reflect on the situation. A mob storming the castle doesn’t generally make things better.
Allow me to jump on this bandwagon.
Our community was HANDS DOWN the most amazing community present at the tournament.
99.9% of the players at the KI stations were nothing but enthusiastic, welcoming, helpful and having a blast. The love for the game and its players cannot be adequately expressed by a forum post - it has to be experienced. All was full of love.
So if you’re losing faith in the community, my suggestions would be:
- Fullscreen Twitch
- Mute nasties on the forum and elsewhere
- If possible, attend a tournament in your region
I’m more proud than ever to be a dedicated KI player, in this golden age of fighting games.
Hey man, I’m glad. Maybe my views of the community are a little flawed cause I see this negativity on a regular basis.
Perhaps my views will change when I go to EVO.
I hope you have a blast man! I’ll be watching your twitter feed!
I wouldn’t call it the golden age of fighting games. More like the second coming?
Any KI players here in central ohio? Feels like I’m the only one.
Is this actually planned or scrapped?
