Do you think we've spoilt as a community?

What do you mean by ONLY?

Hey uh… don’t cross the line…

How is the community to blame for an un-moderated public event?

If you hold an event you need to get permission first, and security is always first and foremost.

If someone gets hurt, you are responsible, that’s why people make sure they provide adequate securiy.

The community is not to blame here. This is the best community i’ve ever seen for such a huge game, even developers interact with us.

Basically a fire started and there were no fire-extinguishers on hand.

What are you talking about??

@VeganOrganism I get what you are saying but the “blaming” is no better than “defending.” Obviously things could have been handled better. What’s done is done…I agree with @VladKravich the sooner people will move on and let this incident die the better.

Because the community turned an event that previously didn’t need moderating or an open letter into an unnecessarily toxic environment. You and I and several others may not have been part of the ruckus, but that doesn’t mean you can take such a hard stance so clearly devoid of a larger sense of thought.
Maybe you’re misinterpreting the letter as a singular attack on you, when in general its an appeal to all fans to be more civil and have fun. A request to not harass developers and other fans with idiocy like “IG doesn’t care about us”.

A wild troll appears

The Forum uses logic

It is ineffective

The troll uses a long rambling message filled with complete nonsense, without context or understanding of what is being discussed

It’s super effective

The Forum faints

Okay, we have gone far enough off the rails that I think it’s probably a good time to shut this one down.

From who I hung out with and spoke to at CEO as well as experiencing the hype during KI Top 8,

The community is stronger than ever, and I’m glad to call them my KI Family.

I’ll second @TheNinjaOstrich on this one - CEO was an amazing experience, and there was nothing but love for the community and the game all around. A whole lot of people really love this game, and those are the voices that we should be acknowledging and elevating.

Exactly, why does bad rep from the smallest margin always get the most publicity? Sigh..

Yeah, let’s do this, let’s not moderate the chat, in a simple user-friendly program. Let’s let the thing get out of our control and blame the community with an open letter, for a few guys you can’t even expect us to know personally, or know how they would act.

Yeah… let’s tell the world to be more civil and leave our defenses down.

Anyone from anywhere can attend these things, worldwide.

According to you though, I am devoid of a larger sense of thought, and this wouldn’t have been easily and completely avoided on any other well managed public stream.

I’m loath to (and hardly ever) participate in these discussions, but even I have a hard time not getting annoyed with VeganOrganism. Please, let’s not give him any more attention guys.

On a side note, we should get an ignore button that blocks out any posts by certain users…

Regardless, its not the fault of the community.

Unchecked things happened here, that’s all… and the general theme of the post we’re addressing, is that the blame lies somewhere… and that an entire community could be implicated, which is just crazy.

The community has not spoilt, and I don’t see how it ever could.

Its clear to see what happened here, and why everyone moderates public forums by default.

@VeganOrganism

I really hate to say this since I know it’s not really OK to say stuff like this on the forums, but…

Could you please shut up?

Seriously, this problem originated from the loud minority of haters in the community. Badly moderated or not, there’s no denying that.

I love this community, but no community is perfect. You’re trying to make these ridiculous claims that we are and trying to appease us, but in reality you are bothering both us and the content creators.

Omg after reading THAT LONG COLLEGE APPLICATION LETTER (seriously man that thing took 5 minutes to read, in the future please make your points more concise so ppl are more willing to read them). Incidentally, I actually AGREE with your stance on the open letter. It’s the 8-bit beatdown organizers responsibility to make a clean and safe environment.

I don’t know why I’m talking to you…

The reason your argument is off base is because the bad actors in the 8-bit chat are not random internet trolls who came out of nowhere. They are known members of the “KI community,” which to the folks actually having the conversation means the FGC - players who participate in offline tournaments and follow that scene. We can have a different discussion about whether referring to that as the “KI Community” is appropriate and justified, but that’s a separate issue.

So when the 8-bit beatdown organizers write an open letter to “the KI Community” that is to whom they are speaking. NOT YOU. So, once again, you don’t seem to fully understand what it is you are talking about here and you are focusing on a minor detail and not the actual discussion being had. Having nothing intelligent to say can’t be corrected by taking a lot of text to say it…

The guys running 8-bit beatdown have done a lot more to contribute to promoting KI and building a community than you have - so it is not okay for you to come on this forum and call them “agonizingly unintellient (your typo because clearly you are also unintellient…) and disrespectful.” You are just making a fool of yourself. Also, it is not “gross negligence” to have a stream chat where people behave badly. You need to actually look up the meaning and the context of words before you use them. Just because you have heard people use the phrase and it has a negative connotation doesn’t mean you can just apply it to any situation.

While I think many may agree you with you in principle - the stream chat should have been better moderated (moderated at all) - your persistent flaming of 8Bit displays an egocentricity that defies the spirit of community. The letter was addressed to the community at large because it is wholly unprofessional to call out the offenders by name in a public forum. Those of the community who weren’t involved can understand who they were addressing, and the offenders know who they themselves are. If you aren’t a troll, you have no grounds to be upset. Addressing the community at large punctuates the threat that such levels of persistent toxicity bear with them - as a community, if our game goes down, we go down together. It’s not just stream moderation, it’s the grander scheme - our presence on the Internet at large.

8Bit only has the power (and good sensibility) to directly address a singular event wherein a problem occurred. Their message extends to much more than a singular instance of stream trolling. If you as an individual are truly soooooo personally offended at said message, you may want to take a step back and evaluate your personal history of interaction within the community they are addressing, and your level of investment in said community.

Ask yourself “Why would they be talking to me?”.

Trolldom aside, they probably weren’t.

When a mother has two children, and one steals something from her purse, but cannot distinguish the thief from the innocent, does she give them both the ‘stealing is bad’ talk and hope that both learn from it, or does she simply padlock her purse?

I agree with yout stance. The only problem is insulting them. They aren’t refering to you. Just the trolls.
