I think people need to forget that this is a microsoft game and start looking at it as an indie game. It has a shoe string budget and tight schedule, it is bug prone due to the rushed schedule, and it is niche. KI doesn’t have a well established fan base. Is there anything wrong with all of this? Absolutely not, it’s a great game in spite of it’s shortcomings, but don’t come off like a crazy person attempting to even compare KI to SF. Thats like comparing a goldfish to a great white shark, the latter being SF.
@BigBadAndy I took nothing negative by it. I simply read it as your opinion and thought to expound on it or rather rebuttle it. I do appreciate your concern though as it shows you’re not trying to stir the put in a detrimental manner. ![]()
Seems like everything has died down a bit.
Well, back to spamming my social media to tell people to join CEO. Lol.
We’ve got the best Jago player, the best Maya player, and the best Cinder player ever all participating (among numerous other great players) and you’re worried about @STORM179? It’ll be a miracle if he, or any of us (@Marbledecker, @TheNinjaOstrich, etc.) get out of pools. If any of us forum regulars make top 8, though, you can ■■■■ well bet I’ll be cheering for you - and if I do (which will be through sheer luck and listings, especially since I can’t get any real practice with my Internet being down all weekend), you can ■■■■ well bet that I’ll be crying tears of joy, regardless of the prize pool.
Don’t count us out Geek. The Underdogs can do some surprising things.
And yes, I’d be afraid of @STORM179. The dude bodies me everytime we play. And he’s got a pro star now! Lol.
Maybe so, but I’d rather count on the big dogs beating each other to a pulp 1st. ![]()
As for @STORM179, don’t be fooled by his friendly demeanor - he’s 1 of THEM now. ![]()
I… Don’t understand. Wha? ![]()
The pros. He means the pros.
Some of the problem is that some of these tournaments are not even close to where some of us live. Some people can’t just miss work for a few days and spend several hundred dollars to show support. I went to combo breaker and took my son. We had fun, but that is the only tournament that is even close to us. All of the others are a one or two day drive. Maybe if the tournaments were located better it could get more support.
Now not to be a jerk, but why should I spend $1000s on going to tournaments when MS will not do any real advertising for the game. E3 will show proof of this. It will spend 3 days talking about some Halo crap and KI will get 15 sec. The only real advertising KI got was when the X1 was comming out. Now sense MS has Halo titles to fall on they don’t care about KI.
I see your point, but there’s probably too much hyperbole here. MS cares enough to keep making the game. Which, frankly, is a lot more than anyone realistically expected after a 17 year absence.
I don’t go to tournaments. I understand that it wears on you as a fan to be constantly told “you have to show up for tournaments otherwise they game will DIE!!!” It certainly wears on me. The truth is, if people don’t show up for tournaments, the tournaments die. The game will keep chugging along. I have yet to have anyone explain the fuzzy math to me where tournaments make money for game developers. It’s always “mumble mumble ADVERTISING mumble mumble Capcom’s doing it so they must have a reason mumble mumble LEAGUE of LEGENDS!” No one can draw a straight line for me from “MS drops money on tournaments” in order to attract more pro players" to “profit.”
But the question is, do you want to have tournaments? If you do, then you need to show up. If not then, carry on.
Hey if you find the straight line, then could you show it to me? Lol. People crying about how tournaments help the game, sounds just like how streamers help the game. To me the only thing it helps is the people who are winning the money or getting money from streaming. The minute this game stops being a tournament game 90% of the pros will drop this game in favor of one they can make money at.
I care about the game and want it to succeed, and don’t really care what pro wins what tournament.
The clear solution there would be to put together a tournament where you live ![]()
We can’t reasonably expect the same TOs to post up all over the continent/world.
If you’d like to compete or watch the competition live. If that’s not your thing, don’t go. Really CEO appeared to be initially intended for people in the general south-eastern area; we’re only lucky that we have people coming out from as far as Nebraska, Connecticut, all over the WORLD, etc… that’s super cool of them but nobody EXPECTED that of them. CEO blew up probably even beyond @GoogleMyName’s expectations and I’m sure he’s stoked.
I can’t get behind this at all. I definitely would not have picked up this game, or even this console, had I not been able to watch Streamers and YouTube videos of tourney play first. It definitely sold me on the game. Exposure is a real, valuable, tangible thing.
Some of us have been training hard, and not posting on the forums as much as a result ![]()
Lol. I’ve traveled to one tournament and haven’t made a dime off this game. Pretty sure I’m not a pro ![]()
Psh…who said I was friendly? ![]()
Ok, some people might buy it because of a stream or video. Some people buy it because their friends say it is great, which has nothing to do with YouTube or Twitch.
My issue is how many of you wil support and play this game if there are no more tournaments? Also if I could take the money hit for having a tournament that failed I would, but I am not sitting on a mountain of money, or have family to support me if it fails.
Well - I can only speak for myself, but next to none of my friends own an Xbone. The one that does is on tour 10 months out of the year and barely gets to play. At the time I purchased the game, literally none of my friends had played it or owned the console. However, to your point, word of mouth is absolutely just as valid as online exposure - but online exposure has the added bonus of being able to display the game, rather than having to rely on descriptors to convey what the game is like.
To be clear - you’re not talking to a “pro” player. I’m a guy with a full time job that lives an hour-and-a-half away from CEO, who just so happens to be better than average at the game and has been lucky to have been playing with really talented players online utilizing top-notch netcode. A perfect storm of opportunities allows me to compete at CEO. I’m really lucky to have it so good.
That said - I will be attending/competing in the KI World Cup next year, which is quite a bit further away for me. But since it’s an event geared around the game I love most, and I have plenty of time to save/plan, I will be attending.
In both instances, my attending is solely for the experience.
I go because I like competition. And I like pushing/testing myself. And I like learning.
I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect tourney earnings, even if you ARE a super-consistently placing tourney player. People are leveling up every day, and we’re all capable of making bad decisions.
Well… except maybe if you’re UA_MyGod, since he places top-3 in lterally everything he touches now LOL
To be fair - you’re more “straight to the point” than anything. Some people don’t mind that at all! Some people simply cannot handle that and throw tantrums. My drummer is the exact same way and I love it, LOL
I get it. That you dont get to play like you want because of responsibilities. I too have a job, wife, and 2 kids. That takes up alot of time. We have spoken on several topics and issues. Now some of the streamers hurt the game more than help it. I watched 20 min of a stream yesterday, and as soon as he lost a MU against Gargos, he became very bitter and started trashing S3 and the game itself. Within 15 sec there was a group of people bashing the game.
I do respect your thoughts and see your point of view, maybe I am just to old and have issues with social media in general. And yes I hate Facebook incase you wondered, but that is a whole other issue.
I totally agree with this. Touched on it a bit in my “We’ll Reap What We Sow” thread. Some streamers say out of one side of their mouth that they love this game and want to see it succeed; then as soon as something doesn’t go their way and they lose a match on stream, fracturing their fragile ego, they blame the game and act as though they’re above whatever just went down on screen. It’s honestly infuriating and I’ve withdrawn support from streamers I’ve personally seen doing this. Some of these streamers have taken to stream-monstering in chat for KI tourney events. It’s anything but supportive and I’m prepared to call them out for it when I see it happening.
Man the hell up. Pack that ego in a box, address it to Antarctica, place it in your mailbox and then light your mailbox on fire.
That isn’t fully correct.
A system where money is put in and not returned can work, if that is the intent.
Look @ blizzard and their StarCraft 2 champion - yearly @ Blizzcon. First place i believe is $100K. Not sure on other prizes.
Anyways, blizzard puts up that money. SC2 isn’t selling millions anymore. Its probably settled around with its…i think i read 15million sales or wahtever it is. BUT blizzard wants to keep promoting it and tournaments is probably their chosen way to do it. COnsidering they’ve made billions from WoW and 100s of millions from Diablo, StarCraft 2, WarCraft 3, and now card sales for Hearthstone, they choose to put a few $100K, or even a million/year for tournament sponsorship and its no big deal (which it isn’t).
Its not the best business decision from an investment POV most likely, but considering how much they earn from their games, its minor and their owners probably consider it worth doing and fun ![]()
I will look at that thread. I am sure you know who I am talking about. I don’t think that EGO could fit in any box. It would need its own room. What is stream monstering? It is funny how my people say get over it when a character gets nerfed, but when it is their character it is BS
It is like some just want to abuse some move. When a pro abuses a move it is called skill. When anyone else does it they are a scrub or a crap player. I love double standards ![]()
He’ll I forgot about that thread. I read and liked it the day you wrote that book ![]()
