Just tried a Challenging run after the update. Remarkably easier. Before, I was able to beat him on normal with one buff (on top of the mandatory one) without too much hassle, but was absolutely obliterated on challenging and godlike. Never even got to his third life bar.
Now, I beat him first try, first character. All Omens were easier as well.
