This has to be the most brain dead thing i’ve read on this entire forum from the past 2 years…
Wish they could give us a hint where to look for ourselves.
Am I the only one disappointed KI only had like 3 hours on stream and half of it was advertisement
That kind of chat belongs on Twitch
It’s pretty depressing.
No, it’s enlightened dismay at the state of KI’s fandom.
The hardcore people who can afford to travel and compete are probably less than 1% of the community, the rest of us who play the game daily and buy the extra content are the ones keeping the lights on at IG. The prospect of getting a new character is more enticing to me than seeing who beat who and took home some money that I can’t spend.
I suppose if I wanted to go outside and play football with my family I’d be a “fraud” because I don’t give a ■■■■ about who won the Super Bowl too?
It is 5:02 PM now. My body is ready.
Anyone got a link?
These “hardcore people” are, as competitive fighting game players, a scene of almost invariably money-poor players who either earn sponsorships or dig deep to travel. They put more hours than you could imagine into the game out of pure passion (because based on the size of those tournament pots it sure as hell ain’t worth doing it for the money) to exhibit this game you supposedly love so much to an audience on the order of tens to hundreds of thousands, at near-optimal levels of play. The extent to which the competitive scene props up a fighting game these days is debatable, but their impact far outstrips that of you or I by several orders of magnitude, and competitive potential inspires developers and other fighting game-focused experts who come on-board to make the game better.
Besides which, how aren’t you curious to see what your favourite characters can do?
I’m in this because I’m a fan of Killer Instinct, not a fan of the people who play Killer Instinct.
I’ve been a fan of the game for years, since before major competitive play was even popular beyond niche groups of fanboys. I love the game, I love the characters, I love the gameplay, I love Killer instinct and I’ve been a part of the community since the start, huddled around an arcade cabinet with my friends like a group of cavemen fighting for the warmth of a fire. I find it rather disturbing that parts of KI’s fandom seem to put more importance on the idols who play the game instead of the game itself.
That being said, I know the tournament scene is important and I enjoy watching it but I’m not about to let someone talk crap about other fans who’re just more into playing KI than watching the bigwigs play it. Yeah its cool to see some guys who are better than I will ever be compete for cash but it’s not more important to me than the tangible game content I’ll actually be enjoying for months and years to come. I get that you’re passionate about it and that’s cool but don’t try to put down the majority of the fanbase for not caring for the same thing you do.
30 minutes…
ITS THE FINALE COUNTDOWN!!!lol
We admire the “idols” who play the game at high levels because they deliver a lot of awesome matches. Caring about competitive play is about wanting to know what the “end-game” of KI’s gameplay is. Arguably it’s the most interested in KI’s gameplay you could ever be.
I’m starting to think that people can’t take the word “fraud” in jest.
I respect those who play tournaments, because they are spreading the word of the game and shows what the game is capable of.
Otherwise, honestly, I don’t really care about them. I care about the game. However, part of that is that it is competitive and can hold its own against the other fighting games that’s out there.
Arguable is an understatement, I’d say playing the game is the most interested in the game one could be. As for the fraud thing, it didn’t really come off as a joke but I guess that’s just the internet for ya.
No hard feelings, competitive stuff is awesome but I get a lot more enjoyment out of picking up the game and experiencing it firsthand.
“Fraud” in the FGC is something you’d hear rolling off of Sajam’s tongue in the course of playful ribbing. It’s something that Divekick accuses you of when you’re getting bodied. It’s not a prime insult.
wrt interest in KI gameplay: to really distill it, playing < playing + following competitive play < playing at a competitive level. It’s kind-of a given that we’re all playing the game.
Just saw them prepping the trailer off to the side. Welcome to ki inspector gadget!
LMAO xD
