Edit: This anime might be suggestive but it is extremely funny. Something @Fwufikins should watch in his spare time. This is totally not a callout by the way.

Ok. Konosuba is to be described in three words:

“Whining, Explosions, and Masochism”

That is all.

Edit: And also Toads.

Well I just finished up Blood -C. As a pretty longtime fan of the rest of the Blood franchises (Blood: The Last Vampire [the animated film. Not the live action] and Blood +) I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Basically the Blood series can be summarized in a sentence: A girl named Saya slays vampires and monsters with a katana, but then it turns out she was one of the very bloodsucking things she was hunting all along. I’m putting that twist in spoiler brackets just in case, but it’s a pretty obvious once you watch one of the shows even for a little while. Obviously they’re all pretty damn violent. Even in the tamest incarnation there’s severed spines and blood spray abound.

The Last Vampire and Blood Plus focus on a grounded, pretty realistic setting. Both involve Saya teaming up with the US military to hunt vampires with varying degrees of explanation. They go for a hard science feel, with the vampiric creatures referred to as chiropterans (chiroptera being the family tree for bats) and some more realistic takes on their abilities and weaknesses. Main difference is Last Vampire is a short film with a pretty enclosed setting and concise plot, while Blood Plus is a 52 episode globe trotting series.

Story wise -C was definitely the weakest of the bunch (though the twist is handled in a way I did not expect, to their credit) but it has a shining A+ rating for outstanding levels of gore. It seems to ditch the more grounded, scientific approach of the earlier entries to hit a more supernatural vibe. The whole thing is set in s remote Japanese village and ditches the vampires for a wider assortment of monsters. The monster designs are really varied and nifty if more than a bit goofy at times.

TL;DR- If you’re looking for some violence and some pretty cool stories, give the Blood series(s) a try.

If you’re short on time and not big on anime tropes, Blood: The Last Vampire is for you. It plays it oldschool, has a unique art style, and feels the least anime of the bunch. Could be enjoyed as a standard Vietnam vampire animated flick.

Blood + is great if you have time for a long series and an appetite for hard Sci Fi and character drama. Lots of settings around the globe and one of my favorite villains in all of anime.

Blood -C is pretty big standard for horror anime plots (right down to the non distinct isolated village) but the monsters and gore are really solid. Pretty short series, but it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.

I’d recommend watching The Last Vampire and Blood Plus in English because of the heavy US Military involvement and some pretty stellar voice work. Blood -C should be strictly Japanese with subtitles, with it taking place exclusively I’m a rural Japanese village and all.

An Update for @HWSlenderCashew:

Considering I almost vomited during episode 1 of Attack on titan S2…

…I don’t think I can handle berserk.

Unless you think it’s less… I don’t wanna say gory but…
