I actually think the game is in a good spot even now gameplay wise. I’ve played it a few times in the last couple weeks and had a lot of fun!
I’m down for the revamp to improve it further, but the big question is really just if anyone else is willing to give it a second shot. I’m having fun when I play, but never run into more than 1 helper during missions. The game works well now, but it’s pretty rough that people aren’t invested anymore.
As an observer, they could still talk me into trying Anthem if they made a push for it. I know I’m on the low end of the outrage spectrum, but the game looked different enough that I could be convinced. But unless you are closely following it, you aren’t going to know they still have plans for this game at all. That won’t get it done.
The game was on sale and I locked it up. I’ve been playing with my brother, son and nephew and having a great time with the game. Slowly winding our way through the story.
Can somebody help me understand the “combo” system. I can put a few together but I don’t understand why or how they work.
Perhaps you already figured it out.
Just in case, see the 2nd post from Storm as well for an explanation on the icons used on weapons. Priming is used to give enemies a status effect ( your Priming weapons apply effects such as fire, acid,..). A weapon labeled as a detonator can then deal additional damage for a combo. Just using a detonator will not results in a combo. Also, melee attacks can be used as combo enders i.e. to detonate enemies that have a status effect, I believe. Another category of weapons ignores the combo system of primes and detonators: these just do huge damage by themselves.
This kind of sucks. I bought Anthem on sale and got some pretty good mileage out of it playing with the family. It wasn’t a fundamentally broken game - just incomplete. It was close to being a really great game.
It is sad as I was less looking forward to new IP this year but was more hoping for announcements regarding expansions and updates for games I play currently or have interest in. The new Anthem was one of my anticipated games.
Yeah, Anthem in general is a big story in missed opportunity for me. I genuinely think it had a super compelling core gameplay loop and a really interesting world, but so much of the package around it just wasn’t where it needed to be at launch and the game never really recovered.
I hope at some point in the future they come back to the world…I had a lot of fun running/fighting/flying my way through it.
Although no flying around, I found some elements in Outriders to be very similar to Anthem. Through Gamepass, I only started today with Outriders so i am not sure if it is a definitive recommendation but perhaps worth trying out…even just for the Anthem similarities.
Outriders is actually a lot of fun. The systems and gameplay aren’t complicated and throws a ton of loot at you. While each piece becomes less important as you level up, dismantling it gives you resources that you’ll need to upgrade the guns/armor that you want to keep.
Story is so so. It’s not epic, by any shot. Just giving you a reason to go kill some stuff.
Graphics are great. It isn’t optimized for XSX/S just yet, but even so it beautiful.
The only thing I dislike is that the dialogue feels like it was written by a pubescent teen or Eminem. I swear I can’t get through a basic convo without the F-bomb being dropped a half a dozen times.
I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the game… until the “plot twist” throws you into the same post apocalyptic wasteland aesthetic as every single other game in existence. There’s only so good that mid and dust can look.
The gameplay has potential but playing it online with my brother and my son (which is pretty key for me) there was more frustration than joy. Everyone has gamepass so maybe we will give it another try once the bug fixes are completed.
The “plot twist” was kind of bluh to me. It’s like the game writers completely forgot what the plot was about and gave us a rando villain at the end.
Most of my friends are playing solo until the bugs are fixed.
For the most part I haven’t had any real issues. I’m currently grinding World Tiers and at Tier Level 9.
I’m getting lots of Legendaries.
There is so much to like about the loot in this game, especially how you can create some really gnarly builds. They aren’t afraid at letting you feel OP.
