Let me be clear then. You haven’t produced any KI sales figures to show evidence to your claim that KI isn’t profitable.
If it was a financial hit, MS would have wasted no time extending their contract. That never happened. They planned to drop them and get a new dev team already because they didn’t deliver on sales expectations.
You realize that VGChartz has been known with incorrect numbers on many of their pages involving sales. Not exactly a credible site to quote sales from, also considering KI has never released it’s sales numbers.
Also, people have brought up “…the game’s future…” in some form, ranging from what you said thinking the PC port will cause the game to be dead if it’s bad, to a small minority saying IG killed the game in S2, because of x change they did, and yet, here we are.
If there’s anything to go by, I’m not listening to someone proclaim the game is “dead” because of y, because time and time again, the MS has proved then wrong so I’m taking it with a grain of salt.
Learn to read, the link has already been provided.
Show me some proof on this. From a reliable source. An official statement would be preferable.
VGChartz aren’t a reliable or official source.
This discussion is about as organized as a decommissioned plate of spaghetti running down a brick wall.
That’s not very nice.
Yes, they’ve been known to be slightly off before but not by millions. lol I’m not claiming the game is dead. I’m saying I would like to see it expanded to ensure the future of it.
The Xbone player base is kind of a dry well at this point and small to begin with. The PC market can make this game big, really big, really profitable. IG and MS have to treat the PC community with respect though and might have to do things that are uncomfortable for them to do.
MS doesn’t release sales numbers, VG tracks actual sales, that’s as reliable as you’re going to get, unless someone from MS comes in this thread and says, oh boy, that’s way off, we sold 10 million to date. lol
I think you mean MKX SOLD 5 million UNITS in 2015. I’m not even sure that is correct, but MKX made FAR more than 5 Million bucks last year.
Well, if it isn’t the correct sales number provided by an official source, it is considered untrustworthy and unreliable. That’s not good enough. That’s not FACTS, that’s estimation, theory and guessing.
So you can’t say KI isn’t profitable if you’re basing that off of VGchartz, especially if VGchartz only counts physical retail copies.
KI is mainly a digital game.
That’s the tricky part about trying to speculate the profitability - the game is purchase-able in a modular fashion.
It is pretty puzzling that MS would continue to pour dev dollars into this if it weren’t making cash - so I’m inclined to think it’s making profit.
That’s not to say it couldn’t be more profitable… but that’s a ubiquitous and near infinite condition. That’s like saying “I’m awesome, but I could be MORE awesome…”
You can make decent estimations based on physical copies sold.
But, I can also say from how long it takes to find a match the player base is small, plus being matched up with the same person back to back or the matchmaking is really bad in regards to searching. Which is it?
I know right? They won’t hesitate to drop thier IPs like a bad habit if it doesn’t make money.
Case in point: Fable.
There’s a special kind of irony in calling microsoft shortsighted when you’re essentially calling for the removal of the primary way for the game to make money.
Well, MS has been beaten badly by PS4 console sales. With SF5 being exclusive to PC and PS4, it’s not unreasonable to assume MS would eat losses to stay competitive from a perspective buyer’s point of view. If there’s no KI then MS is missing something PS4 has.
No you can’t dude. There arent physical season 3 copies of KI.
There aren’t even full season 2 copies of KI.
You’re just talking out of you’re butt now.
VGCharts only count the outdated retailed Season 1 game of Killer Instinct, they do not have the digital number sales lol
You’re using the fail piracy argument. If this many people pirate the game then the company lost x amount is sales. False, they were never going to buy it anyway in most cases. lol Nothing is being taken away, only more players are being added. They will still have the same source of revenue from a larger player base instead of a larger percentage of profits from a much smaller base.
And, those sale figures are not good, not good at all. Digital and physical sales are pretty much never that far off from each other.
