Why I think Killer Instinct is the "best" fighting game to start with

I made this video a few days ago, with EVO starting this Friday I thought it’d be a good idea to talk about KI especially since we all know that the fighting game genre is difficult to get into. But thanks to KI having the breaker system and combo system, it can be used as a great introduction into the genre and start playing more fighting games.

I would like to hear opinions on my video and of what I talked about in the video.

I simply agreed with everything.

I’m not sure why when thinking aobut what fighting game is the best to get into he mentions Guilty Gear but not MKX. KI is probably easier to get into though because of other reasons he mentioned, but MKX’s graphics and polish would pull so many.

I said Guilty Gear is not a good choice since it’s very advanced with too many mechanics. MKX has strict timing on combos and the usage of meter to break a combo isn’t really ideal. One nasty setup can almost mean a loss. KI doesn’t use meter if you do break a combo, shadow moves aren’t all that damaging like X-Rays, and not properly ending a combo means no damage boost. KI’s leniency offers more for the new players.

ki.infil.net is almost reason enough alone, tbh

Another thing about MKX is there didn’t feel like any kind of progression system. Like you don’t unlock accessories in any orderly fashion. There isn’t a real ranking system from what i remember. You have a leaderboard and it tracks your wins and losses, but i think KI’s is far far better.

I didn’t watch all of it but i also think Shadow Mode is pretty handy for noobs like me.

You’re right about MKX, you just win or lose. Even SF gives you character levels and GG lets you buy or fish for stuff.

Indeed, Shadow Mode is a good way to train without resorting to the AI.

I don’t I would ever put “MKX” and “strict timing on combos” in one sentence

Run cancel combos aren’t exactly easy. One can mash simple combos but the longer ones take time to get right.

Personally I only had problems with Cassie Cage run cancel combos, other ones seemed pretty simple to me. Hell, even Johnny’s run cancel combos in Stunt Double weren’t that demanding. But maybe that’s just me. I started watching that video of yours, mate. So far I agree with all your points

One thing I didn’t understand about run cancel combos, is why didn’t NRS just let the “letting go of the button, back to neutral” for it? Just a weird choice.

Thanks, I hope you enjoyed the video! I welcome any feedback and comments!
