What system for other fighting games

I’m getting hardcore into fighting games but I want to play more than what Xbox has available… I’m having trouble finding a definitive answer from Google so I’m asking here..

My logic is..

  1. I’m not thrilled about buying a Playstation exclusively for fighting games but furthermore the way these consoles (Xbox included) keep reiterating themselves rapidly without clear boundaries for what generation is what is making me lose confidence in consoles altogether..

  2. All this exclusive crap on both ends is also making me lose my confidence in both consoles when PC would seem to be the answer, specifically Steam..

  3. The real question is what’s the fighting scene like on Steam vs PS? And considering my first two points is the scene likely to grow on Steam in the future?

Thanks

It’s really tough to answer this. SFV is cross play with PS4 so it is the same scene. My understanding is that Guilty Gear is much busier in PS3/4 which are cross play with each other. NRS games are a wasteland on PC but you can play these in Xbox. So it’s really going to depend on what game you want.

Youll find almost all fighters on PlayStation. Its your best bet if you want to play more.

Best place for fighters is PS3 and PS4. Hands down.

Not the answer I was hoping for, but thanks a lot. Much appreciated.

Worst thing is I was wanting a fightstick badly, but now I apparently also want a PS4, only a budget for one though. fml

I’m still going to go back to the question “what is it you want to play?” “PlayStation” is a very good place for fighting games. But PS3 games aren’t compatible with PS4. So are you interested in playing older games or just the newest ones? Do you want to play the latest King of Fighters or do you want access to the dozens of SNK games from the past? I’m not suggesting you don’t get a PS4, but you have to kind of look at what you want. Don’t just run out and get a PS4 because a couple of guys said “PlayStation is best for fighters” on the forums.

Do you currently have a functioning gaming PC? You can check out the available Fighters on Steam and see what that looks like (make a list). Then take a look at PS4 and PS3. To be honest, if you are interested in playing older games Xbox One and Back Compatible games are already a pretty good source. I can list them out if you want.

But if you want the new KoF and the biggest Guilty Gear community than yes, PS4 is the only place you will get that.

I want two things: a hype game that draws in lots of competition and then obviously I also want a thriving online multiplayer.

In particular for those reasons above and just pure style SFV and GG seem most appealing.

On Xbox I have MKX, Blazblue CPE and Skullgirls. I’m just not much into the MKX combo system and the other games are -dead- online, you have to join groups to find rare matches. But then without the hype and competition I have little to no motivation to get good.

I do not have a gaming PC, however, that’s a big part of this post–should I start thinking about investing into one? I’d be happy to as long as the online FGC on Steam is thriving… but my gut tells me no, go for PS4. I really don’t know anything about anything on this subject though.

Thanks for your time

If your interest is SFV and Guilty Gear and you don’t have a PC then a PS4 is probably your best choice especially if you’re on a budget. You aren’t likely to get a gaming PC for $350 that’s going to do much for you or last a long time without further investment. You can expect that SFV will have a thriving community for quite some time. Not sure about GG but definitely PS4 will have more players.

Remember also there are many fighting games dropping this year on both systems also… You have Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Remastered dropping on Xbox One on March 7, then you have Injustice 2, Tekken 7.. so there are many fighting games still coming that will be on Xbox One also. But if you really want SFV and KOF then I think what most everyone else is saying would be correct youll need to get that PS4.

PC for pure variety alone, but be mindful of the awful netcode we’ve been stuck with for MKX and SFV.

Currently, however, the PC is pretty much getting a version of every current fighting game franchise (and bizarrely MVC3 cause I guess Capcom felt like they needed more money) so it’s not a bad position to be in right now! Also my fight stick works with Xbox, Ps3 and PC and only set me back £150.

I started expanding my horizons with Steam a LOT lately. Which is extra nice, because I can continue to utilize the TE2 I got for KI.

I was never really into anime fighters before (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Skullgirls, etc) but I recently picked up all of them and am having a blast. I briefly played the original GG back in the day, but didn’t stick with it long enough to understand the mechanics or appreciate the characters as much as I do now.

The game I was most unexpectedly (and pleasantly) surprised by, is SkullGirls. The crazy animations are something that kinda turned me off original, but after going through the Tutorial Mode and seeing how the combo system works, and how much cancelling could be done, I fell in love. The game feels really good to play. In fact, I think if I were to create my own fighting game, I would want the gameplay to be almost identical to SkullGirls, but with a more realistic art style. Being able to cancel pretty much any air normal into pretty much any air special just feels right.

If you get Steam and pickup SFV, the mod options are pretty amazing too.
