agreed, especially in TJ’s theme. there is a part in there that is so ■■■■■■■ 1990s its sickeningly good haha. when i heard it, memories of movies like Class Act with Kid N Play came to mind, In Living Color with the wayans bros. it was a giant tidal wave of nostalgia when i was a teenager
It might surprise you, but much as I like Hisako I would also be ok if she sat out a sequel or came later in the roster. So long as the rest of the roster has someone I think is interesting or fun, I’m down to let my main take a break. To be honest I’m not really sure how I would update Hisako for a new KI - her moveset and aesthetic fit so perfectly for her in this one that I don’t know how I’d evolve it. Shin Hisako’s spirit ball shenanigans very much aren’t my thing, and I’d like Sako to keep her movement style and core gameplay centered around the concept of fear. How to add to that in new and compelling ways? I honestly don’t know ![]()
I wouldn’t howl about it, but I do think KI 2013 is a less interesting and worse game without manuals. Particularly, the game kind of falls apart at high level without them, as any strength above lights is breakable on reaction. I think it’s good that the title gives you options to avoid having to play the counter breaker game if you’re risk averse, and I think the presence of manuals also indirectly buff things like delayed AD’s that help keep the combo game interesting. Give the players lots of options and let them decide what they want - that’s how you get interesting variety and approaches in even the same characters.
To the extent that you want to “force” players to interact more fully with the combo system, I’d suggest just reducing the prevalence/potency of HKD’s and character vortexes. People do one-chances so often b/c most of the cast has HKD options and KI offense is potent, especially on hard knockdowns. A 12% damage combo has a lot less value if you can’t practically guarantee yourself another opening immediately after they get back up. Force players to work a bit harder for their openings generally and it suddenly becomes more important to really capitalize in terms of damage when you finally get the touch.
You think so? I think KI is still a pretty particle-intensive game - even now the game blows up stream equipment with all the junk flying around :-p
id just be happy to get a new KI game at this point, but i wont lie, i would be pretty saddened if hisako didnt make the cut lol. not just because shes my main, but i think shes the coolest new addition to the game’s roster.
Honestly, the most like characters to go in a sequel would be the 3 guests, the 2 bosses from past KI games, the 2 Semi-Clones, Shadow Jago and Omen.
Although some less obvious choices for a comeback that I see would return are Kan-Ra, Aganos, ARIA, Tusk and Thunder.
i think shadow jago can sit out the next one lol, or he gets a rework. that guy’s like a shoto, dimitri maximoff, akuma, on ■■■■■■■ PCP
I suppose it depends on whether they factor in use statistics to their decision. In which case Shago will almost certainly earn a return.
I wonder if we’ll see some characters return in new forms like we’ve seen or had mentioned in the short stories and comic series. Human Ben Ferris, Arianna, reborn Gargos, etc.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw certain characters get changes or upgrades in their design. Heroes might look more aged and battle work, Gargos could use his new form from the comics, Aganos will probably get new rocks and vines in his body, the Ultratech characters will likely get more tech, but most importantly…
I WANT TUSK TO GET A PROPER KILT!
A bigger beard would be nice too
Far as new characters, I’m hoping they expand on The Coven, our new spooky faction that Mira represents. The Tsar and probably a Wendigo.
Assuming he survived.
If we do get another KI what I’d like to see is the following.
Characters.
Return of characters from KI-1 and KI-2. As well as some of the characters from the third game. The only ones I can guess are not returning are remixed characters and guests. So that would leave 5 slots if that is the case.
1: Tsar
2: Wendigo
3: Naga/Gorgon
4:Elder lady fighter.
5:Sharkman
Game modes
1: Arcade Ladder (It’s a must)
2: Team Battles
That’s all I got for the modes I can think of, maybe the next person will have better knowledge.
Features
1: Ultimates for all
2: Humiliations
3: New way to end a match.
4: Theater Mode
if they go with that, id assume so as well. however new game, would mean new tools. maybe he’ll be crazier in different ways, maybe he’ll be more tamer on the flip side also
In terms of characters returning in a sequel, I also think not everyone should return, and none of the existing guest characters should.
Killer Instinct (2013) was a reboot, and had the full classic roster for nostalgia and because it’s a revival of the franchise. The next title should retain the more popular characters, but introduce a host of new characters as well. The Mortal Kombat franchise has done this very thing, and overall it’s gone well. Some new characters weren’t so good, but many are.
As long as they keep my Madman Kan-Ra, I’m fine.
It’s always interesting to see what characters “make or break” a game for people, as it’s always different and it’s not possible to please everyone without including every character.
IF(big IF) a new KI game comes, I definetively dont see all chars coming back. I would love to see it, but doesnt feel possible
My picks for not coming back(not that I dont want them back, its just I see them with less chances)
Sadira
Kan-Ra
Thunder/Eagle(one makes the cut)
Aganos
Omen
Shin Hisako
Rash
Shadow Jago
Arbiter
Eyedol
Raam
Kilgore
^That looks pretty realistic to me.
Not bringing Kan-Ra back would be a mistake.
He’s one of the most memorable chars.
It is possible that he could still be involved in the overall story in the next game yet still not be a fighter in the next game. I know I’d be content with him just being the “shadow lords” shopkeeper. Storywise he could still a few somethings wrong…
And someone has to correct those wrongs by beating the hell out of him of course.
So that makes him a fighter.
Nah, @G1GlaciusPrime is correct. Most characters can be included for story elements, but are not mandatory to be playable. NetherRealm has done this often enough.
Having said that, he’s a pretty unique type of character, so it would be cool to see him back.
the idea of putting in characters just for the story and not making them playable however can often draw the ire of the player base. i wouldnt recommend goin down that route. its like being teased, and in the end you get nothing from it. people do not like that, i myself among them. its whatever though, there are far more important issues that can trouble a fighting game than this
