GG’s to @TheNinjaOstrich. Fun matches as always, and your spacing/footsies are starting to get scary. Just remember - 85% solid, 15% yolo.
I don’t actually think this is new. People have been making it to Gold and Killers for like 6 months now without knowing how to break. A lot of players just mash light or medium breaker, and get away with it because a lot of players shy from using heavies because they’re so slow. I’ve actually baited far more lockouts using heavies than any other strength, simply because so many people (even top level players) tend to guess light and medium breaks.
Heavy is my default strength to tell you the truth. Until you prove to me you can consistently react to them, that’s all I’m hitting you with

I just played with Fiyah Liger. It’s not cool when they fight you half-assed… IMO
Like dude, If you are going to fight, hit me with all you got! Don’t start messing around! He started doing close punches and such like that, so I adapted and punished him for it. I just don’t like when they do that, instead of setups and stuff that will help me with the MU.
It’s not like you are trying to hide Tech! Smh
I guess that’s truly the only thing that makes me really “salty”, is when people don’t play their best on purpose… He won, but still…
GGs anyways…
Could be possible that he’s trying to train himself to use some of the stuff he got to play around with from S3? Practicing throwing out flipout buttons, for example.
other than that, I have no idea.
Well, I really don’t think doing a lot of heavies just to see if I break is one example. But I guess. Maybe he’s training. I don’t know. I just hope he wasn’t holding back on purpose, because he thinks I’m a run-of-the-mill Jago. How am I supposed to learn if you hold back?
@TheNinjaOstrich (and everyone else too really) - I have suddenly developed the urge to learn to play Jago, with the goal of developing him at least to intermediate level. If you see me on, please feel free to shoot me an invite for a set or two.
I will almost certainly get bodied, but I think it will be a good learning experience.

Let me know if you want to run sets. I’d be glad to share Jago knowledge. So far, I have one protégé, and they are really good! No complaints!
Now, Why suddenly Jago? Lol out of Curiosity.
@STORM179 Oh jago…My favorite
Anyway…I have cabin fever from the snow… so Is anyone up for some sets? Just give me a time…Whoever responds
Haha. Can’t be worse than the shenanigans I pull with Hisako. At least you’re used to Jago
Well, I’d like to try and pick up Kim Wu when she drops, and one of the things I think I should do before that happens is learn to play a more “standard” neutral game. Both of my mains (Sadira and Hisako) move around the screen in very unique ways, so I’ve never been forced to learn grounded, non-bursty neutral play. Jago doesn’t get to shenanigan his way across the screen, and that’s a foundation I want to set before I pick up Kim. If I can get solid Jago neutral play, then I think it will also improve my play with Kim, who is faster and burstier, but has some similar buttons and +frame things she gets to do.
Sadira gets away with A LOT in the neutral game, and Hisako does as well with her wall jumps and crazy long-range normals. Jago is forced to fight for space in a way that a lot of characters in KI aren’t, and I want to take that skill and then apply it to Kim. She’s got some good buttons and good walk speed, so I feel like if I can learn to play the neutral effectively with Jago, I’ll be able to absolutely terrorize with Kim. She gets to do more nonsense than him (you have no idea how hype I am for dragon cancels, command grab, AND a counter ), but to be good with her in all situations I need to know how to effectively manage the “standard” ground game.
There’s also the fact that I kind of just really want to learn how to DP on demand on a fight stick I’m pretty consistent now, but still don’t get it in every situation that I want. On the plus side, I have gotten pretty good with input-shortcut DP’s. I’ve been wrecking fools with heavy DP anti-airs It’s unbelievably satisfying after 2 years of not having one.

Good point. Alright then! I’ll beat your jago down with my plasma claws!
That makes sense. I’ll be honest though, even though you are picking Jago, which is a beginner character, this might be one of the more difficult characters to learn. Spacing, as well as HARD reads, massive footsies and such are at play. With Hisako, you can kinda throw stuff out there, then just counter into combos if it gets too rough.
With Jago, nobody online is afraid of Jago, and he has the most recognizable ADs in the game. It will be a slight struggle, but nothing you can’t handle, I’m sure.
I took him out for a spin yesterday and did ok. Probably about a 40% win rate or so, with the greatest success in the Jago mirror. Contrary to what people seem to think, I do actually have at least some fundamentals, and Jago was my original KI character.
And Jago doesn’t have to make reads at anywhere near the level Hisako does, so not really worried about that to be honest. He’s got a lot of options at all ranges, and he gets to back people off with the threat of DP and run far more consistent offense than a Hisako. The breaking thing is annoying though - I see why everyone learns his manuals.
Never said you didn’t have fundamentals. Everyone has fundamentals. It’s not just associated with Shoto-like characters.
But yes. ADs are very hard. Lol
Lol. That wasn’t actually directed at you. I’ve gotten any number of hateful messages over Xbox Live over the life of KI, first with Sadira and then with Hisako :-p
Amusingly, I think Hisako makes people even madder than Sadira did
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten hatemail in KI. But Playing Hisako, I have gotten Tbagged like a boss. One time 5 times in a row. I guess people just don’t like her. I need to brush up on my homework, and see how I can win consistently with Jago. Because I feel it’s a match that is slightly in my favor.
Hmm. I actually think it’s too close to call. Like most Hisako MU’s, I think it’s basically just a question of whether the Hisako can get a handle on how you play. I think she pretty much goes a pure 5-5 with nearly everyone in the cast.
For you specifically (at least as it relates to fighting me), I think your issue is more that you really do play too solid sometimes. Solid play is great, but it’s also predictable. If Hisako can predict what you want to do, she will beat you, period. So do the super telegraphed jumping heavy that is absolutely useless against her, stand right beside her and then throw her on her wakeup, standing+MK her on her wakeup. Do the kind of crap that’ll have the Hisako player saying “I can’t believe he just went for that…” To a certain extent I think you’re kind of there offensively - now you need to do the same on defense.
You’ve been playing Sako, so I’d actually suggest just playing her some more. The same way learning Jago will teach you spacing and “honest” neutral, Hisako will teach you to read how people want to attack or approach. Most importantly, she’ll teach you how to develop the read quickly, and you can use that pick your spots once you get knocked down.
Also: hold up when she’s in instinct

If I do, you know that, and punish me. I don’t, and you don’t do anything. LOL XD
Thanks for the Advice though.
Edit: Did you notice anything new about my style or setups I was doing? Like everything was hit consistently and such? No dropped combos or Juggles that I usually hit?
Haha. I feel like I’ve given you a complex. To be honest, you should still always hold up - very few Hisako’s will drop a combo into a grounded button, not unless they KNOW you’re capable of jumping out the command grab reset. It’s just harder to time and a heck of a lot more finicky. And remember, a lot of times it isn’t necessarily about whether or not something works - it’s about whether you’re willing to do it. Showing you can jump out of a command grab reset (or even getting tagged by the counter to it) puts the player on notice that you’re on to at least one of their (likely) preferred options. You pressure them by doing that, and force them to think about what you might do, as opposed to just on playing the game they want to play.
In general, you picked your spaces a bit better than the last time we played. It used to be really obvious whether you were going low or overhead because you only used overhead at it’s most extreme range; now you play more within the extreme limit of cr+MK, where I actually have to look out for both. Frame traps were also a bit tighter than what I’ve seen from you before, and you were willing to challenge me more on things. Instinct pressure was also better - you need to be more proactive about using it though.
You also did 2 windkick->DP frame traps. First one hit me, and I hope you noticed how I didn’t challenge you again on a blocked windkick for literally the next four matches. You whiffed the next one, and unfortunately never went for one again for the remainder of the set. I think that’s a bit of a mistake. Definitely don’t get too DP happy, but after you stopped going for it I got to play my game, where if it had remained a threat I would’ve had to continue being afraid of it.
Really don’t recall you dropping much of anything to be honest. Your manuals were pretty solid, and ditto for the juggle game.

You have made me extremely happy! If you didn’t see anything wrong with my gameplay, and that I’ve actually improved, I’d say I’m closer to mastering my Atrox! Because last time we had a full LONG set, I was playing on Controller. Now that I switched to stick around Christmas Time, I’ve always wondered if I was improving. If you couldn’t tell a difference, I’d say I adapted quickly.
Want to have a set? I want to fight your Jago.
