The Evolution of Combos: Are We Ready for New Mechanics in Killer Instinct?

Hello

Killer Instinct has always been known for its innovative combo system, setting it apart from other fighting games. But as gaming evolves, should Killer Instinct take the next step in introducing new mechanics to enhance or even revolutionize its combo system?

In this thread, let’s discuss the potential for new gameplay features, such as the addition of dynamic combo counters, combo breaker variations, or even adaptive AI that learns player patterns during matches. How would these changes affect the balance and competitive scene of Killer Instinct? :upside_down_face:

Are these mechanics something players would embrace, or do we risk alienating purists who love the game for what it is today?
I have checked The Complete Killer Instinct Guide (ki.infil.net) [All post-S3 chars added!] MongoDB guide for reference.

What are your thoughts on how Killer Instinct can evolve while staying true to its core identity?

Thank you ! :slightly_smiling_face:

Maybe a slight enhancement/adjustment to the Counter-breaker system perhaps where rather than just allow players to extend the combo there was more of a cash-out option for more damage? While baiting opponents and then catching them with a Counter-breaker as they’re trying to break your combo is incredibly satisfying, I think there could have been an option to just simply cash for more damage with a single hit rather than wait for the combo chain to extend any further. Sometimes simpler is better.
