This trailer is so epic! Season 3 can’t come soon enough!
Also that music is amazing! Nicely done Celldweller and Atlasplug!

Amazing trailer!!!
That music and scenario… OMG fantastic!!!
Okay, as far as KI trailers go, I’m actually quite disappointed with this 1…
First, the whole Keith David thing - I could’ve sworn 1 of the devs said Keith David would voice him when I asked about it in the past. That being said, the voice is very good overall, and I’d like (re)confirmation about the voice actor for the Arbiter from the devs.
Secondly, the stage looks awful, IMO. There’s far too much going on and the animations are awful and not smooth at all. That being said, I realize that this trailer was likely made while still in development, so I have my fingers crossed a lot of this will look better when S3 releases.
Thirdly, the actual gameplay - it seems very basic. Seeing how the Arbiter has fought in previous games, I wasn’t expecting him to have any finesse, but sword swipes? Really!? I kind of thought he would’ve been more brutish in his attacks. The sword attacks also remind me a lot of Hisako and how she uses her weapon of choice. That being said, I like how the carbine, sticky, active camo, and other attacks were implemented; I even saw a few kicks, which was nice.
The music, IMO, was the best part - absolutley and spectacularly superb in every way possible. ![]()
If I understood your correctly, we’re saying the same thing in different words.
I have no doubt of the plan of succession for the releases. Actually it was the best way to do it. The only thing I meant to say was, maybe they meant to release the Arbiter trailer once the new character teaser was done (insert random date this week), but instead of waiting, they released it today even if the teaser was not ready just because the negative reaction was worst than anticipated.
The arbiter looks cool stage looks nice. I don’t like the music. Looking forward to the stream.
Pretty sure that’s not the case. Releasing the trailer during the Halo grand finals is something that would have obviously been planned in advanced and not just thrown together one day before.
This
And its obvious they want to keep halo things over at Halo, but im guessing the next character reveal has nothing to do with Halo so theyll separate it.
I’m guessing Keith David was a little pricey to get to voice act but the new guy did okay I guess. The music is fantastic also.
Pretty sick stage! Didn’t realize he could talk as well ![]()
Haven’t played Halo ever. DUN JUDGE ME!
i think 25…also reveal Rash stage. Rash, Kim and Arby are S3 starters.
Rash was the first S3 character IG on which he worked, do not think that they had not even thought about his stage..
I think the Keith David thing is being overblown. How much is he actually going to speak in the game itself? Grunts during the fights?
I did notice on the trailer that about the part where the scarab busts through the background the music changes a bit to a chord progression that, while it didn’t seem like it was there, you could easily throw the KI theme into it. Kinda interesting having both the KI & Halo themes melded together into the same tune…not that they’re all that dissimilar in the first place.
Wow. What a way to start the week. Epic trailer. Its not Keith David (compare any Arbiter cutscenes from Halo with his voice, its not him) but its a good actor anyway. Makes him sound a little human and definitely fight ready. Celldweller & Atlas Plug, killing it with all 3 themes we’ve heard so far.
I anxiously await the stream to detail his moveset. Plasmas cause Stagger, I’m thinking the Carbine works like Cinder’s new Inferno, 3 angles and serious potential damage on block. Sword swipes are pretty cool.
But we have yet to see it, since the character’s first appearance in Beta until KIWC, no mention of his stage at all. Makes it less likely he’s getting his own stage instead of Tusk or Gargos IMO
hope…
should not have done internships for arbiter … this way TUSK, KIM and Gargos got them. KI roster is more important.
^Basically this. Looks really well-executed, and I’d be totally fine with Master Chief showing up as well with production of this calibre.
But there’s pretty much zero news here, aside from brief glimpses at some of the tools that Arbiter will have at his disposal. And that’s fine, too – but my interest in getting my gameplay stream fix with Arbiter is sky-high, whereas my interest in the trailer was/is pretty low. So wake me when the stream’s about to start.
It’s hard to really glean a lot in terms of function/utility from a trailer.
I mean, you seem to’ve done a good job highlighting things, but some things are also pretty ambiguous. The “launcher” bit follows the “switching sides grab” bit, which could just be Arbiter’s regular back throw with a few hits in it and a juggle opportunity similar to Shago’s throw. Or he could have something like Thunder/Kin Wu’s back throw opener, followed up by an auto-double or a manual and then indeed a launcher ender – who knows? It does seem from his first combo that he’ll have a launcher ender, but that’s not very big news.
I think the “aerial sword thrust” you noted is the jump-in at the start, which could just be a regular aerial normal with some reach akin to Thunder’s aerial HK. The “linkers” are a bit weird: at the start we see said aerial sword thrust into double-hitting “laser sword” linker into “cold shoulder” linker with a sword slash on the end, followed by a two-hit auto double. I thought this might be an indication that one of these wasn’t a linker, but jump-in rules in KI are also weird: you can follow up a jump-in by the opener version of a special, and then cancel into the linker version of another special. That’d seem to mean that, unless season 3 is changing the jump-in rules, the laser sword bit is either an auto double consisting of a repeated normal, or Arbiter has a double-swiping laser sword-like move with that animation in neutral. We later see a shadow laser sword, which hints towards the latter I guess.
Unfortunately, seeing a linker tells us almost nothing about the properties of a move. Does the Arbiter’s moveset have a very Jago/Fulgore/ARIA-like laser sword/wind kick backbone, or do those moves possess different properties?
One thing I don’t think you picked up on is that Arbiter follows up the grenade stagger with what looks almost guaranteed to be a grounded overhead. It has the right barely-reactable speed, the animation looks reminiscent of blade-body ARIA’s command overhead, etc.
That cloaking stuff could be just about anything at this stage, so I wouldn’t think too hard about it. It could be a shadow CotE-like move, it could be like Fulgore’s shadow teleport; he could have a regular teleport with Fulgore-like effects, or indeed some reworked version of the much-maligned invisibility mechanic; it could just be ender fluff. Seems clear that it can be used as an ender, at least.
Anyway, it looks like I took more of an interest in dissecting this stuff than I thought I would.
They probably want Arbiter to pick up a combo from the stagger.
I don’t think internships is the right word..
Wasn’t aware there was a Halo tourney going on.
Now it makes more sense and ruzzikel’s comment makes more sense too.
Thanks for the clear up.
Not a halo fan at all but daaaaaaang does Arbiter look dope AF!!! Great job guys can’t wait to try him out!
I’m not saying that it isn’t functional, rather that it’s not the function one would expect from that grenade.
Ya, I’m just saying they’re prioritizing gameplay over expectation a little.
