Per the admin, each person banned was warned, but continued to break the rules. It is for this reason they were banned. As such I can’t feel sorry for them.

I started the thread, not @Dragonps - so everyone can feel free to yell at me instead.
I appreciate Adam’s response - and I will repeat that I totally respect their right to chuck out anyone they don’t want to have on here and to get rid of content that they don’t want - just because they don’t want it. That’s fine.
I still think it’s a pretty thin interpretation of the ToS - if discussing copyrighted material without permission of the owner is the issue (note that this is everyone’s assumption - not something confirmed by MS) then every single off-topic thread on the forum is an immediate violation. But, in retrospect, I don’t think I could have reasonably expected any other sort of reply.
Regardless, as far as I’m concerned it’s a dead subject. I thought about starting another thread “why do people feel it’s a good idea to harass the forum managers and try to ruin the roll out plan of the game that we all love,” but that’s just prolonging the agony. All this will pass soon enough.
