While I would generally not recommend taking the YouTube comments section as any kind of authority on, well, anything, I’ll simply avoid that argument entirely and say that I’m quite content being in the minority here. What do I care what a bunch of other people think about how Laura looks? That has zero effect on anything that I personally feel about it.
I’ve had enough real contact with women that seeing virtual underboob just isn’t doing anything for me personally. I like an attractive character design (I think her default is pretty good minus all the ridiculous camera angles, and think Karin’s design is stellar), but that doesn’t mean I need T&A all over my games, particularly where it makes no practical sense and just makes me scratch my head. She’s in a street fight - why are the bottom portions of her breasts just hanging out? Why is she fighting in something her girls would fly out of in two seconds in real life?
If that’s what you like in your games then more power to you. I’ve no personal preference for virtual titillation however, and like it when the characters actually look like they’re equipped for the task at hand. I like that Orchid’s wearing body armor over her improbably large breasts and missing ribs, and like that Maya’s gear, while sleek, at least looks like it’s making an attempt to keep her from getting stabbed. That’s my aesthetic preference, and I’ve got no issues if that puts me in the minority of anything. I’ve already purchased SFV and intend to play it. Heck, Laura’s one of the characters I’m interesting in playing on the side. I just have limited use for pointlessly impractical oversexualized outfits for her.

is a terrible argument for virtually anything. Plenty of tacky, off-putting, and just plain sucky design decisions have gone into games as the developer’s decision. “It’s in the game” is not a valid justification for anything.

Sort of like you with Orchid? Max’s YouTube channel is great but it hardly represents “the public” and even if it did, what “the public” likes doesn’t necessarily indicate good taste. Otherwise we wouldn’t have reality tv.
As far as Laura’s alt I think, frankly, it’s just sad and the fact that people are clamoring for it is even sadder. It just confirms every sad stereotype about gamers and game developers. It’s a safe bet not a single female artist/programmer/designer had anything to do with that costume. If it was revealing and interesting, from a design or character standpoint it might be different (many of the SkullGirlz characters walk this line). But it’s not. Even Capcom has done this outfit before. They could have given her a carnival outfit that was revealing and at least interesting and character appropriate and still showed skin. This thing is just dumb. But hey it’s got digital underboob so HELL YEAH, LET’S GO!!!
Disappointing, but not surprising. Capcom is pushing SFV into the pile of games I probably won’t play much with terrible design choices.

I definitely think its too much, but I never shy away from good underboob LOL I find it odd they censor one thing but release another that to me is even more risque.
I showed my wife and she just rolled her eyes … girls def don’t like it.

If I had to pick between the butt slap and this, I would definitely say this is far more problematic. Really not sure how they can reconcile the different treatment of those two things. Maybe they will only release Laura’s alt in Japan (listen’s for sounds of impending riot).

I agree…its hypocritical in every sense. The shading on the shirt top almost looks like a nipple is visible through the shirt. but it is the shading. Maybe these costumes haven’t been fully confirmed through the censoring part of the process?
You know no one says anything about Chun Li’s water balloons jiggling in the character select screen either. I mean seriously the movement is so noticeable…its feels weird for my kids to be sitting there watching it and then they ask me why its doing that…LOL

I’m super surprised that’s still in there to be honest. They mentioned it as a known bug VERY early in the game’s visibility to the public, so kind of funny that they never took the time to iron it out. I’ve kinda just figured it was one of those things the devs or programmers find amusing, so they’ve just left it as an in-joke until the game actually gets released.

eh, i got no issue with laura’s alternate design but thats cuz im not prudent. im not bothered by it because scantily clad women in gaming has been around forever. big deal, its gonna happen and will continue happening because the japanese are kinky ■■■■■■■■. they love their women naked and in various states of undress. brazil itself is also very sexual, so they saw that and they thought “hey, lets make laura look real ■■■■■■!”. watch their shows,i seen hotties in booty shorts/tank tops playing twister to the applause and delight of both a male and female audience.
