Personally, do you call/refer to him as Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman for Sonic’s nemesis and above all the main villain in the Sonic series?
you cant go wrong with it. Calling him Robotnik or Eggman is no diffrent than calling Bowser Koopa.
its like with godzilla and Gojira you cant go wrong with either.

We dont know if there will be a Sonic 4 right away
And an all-new Sonic anime/animated series too featuring none other than Shadow the Hedgehog 
My only guess they were not in to keep things simple and not over complicate things.
But hey if they make a 4th or a series they could introdeuce amy as well as Metal Sonic that night work.
