I had never imagined Slither being from anywhere other than the South American jungles, as that makes her an enemy of the Nightguard pretty easily, and with the backstory I posted, the Nightguard are prevalent. I wouldn’t be against using some Indian influences on how she would look or speak, but I can’t sign up for your “usually human” idea.
A gorgon is a gorgon - upper torso of a human with the lower body of a snake. KI is a game about monster tropes, and her monstrosity needs to be fully evident at all times.
Here’s hoping ANY of these ideas could be useful for Season 3; supposedly they don’t like to (or can’t) use fan-posted stuff. I just hope I haven’t doomed any chance of a medusa/gorgon/naga appearing in KI.
Oh no, that’s cool man. I like your character concept. I wasn’t trying to say “let’s take your idea for Slither and make her Indian and a good guy and this and that.” That wasn’t my intention at all, and I’m sorry if you thought I was trying to change your character idea or bag on it in any way.
I thought it’d be kinda cool to throw out some different ideas for what the general concept could be or how it could work in KI while also talking about your interpretation, but I suppose that’s not the point of why you created this thread, so my apologies for jumping off topic.
I don’t mind the discussion at all, just saying that the way I imagine a character like this doesn’t really match up with what you guys posted. Mainly the “two legs” aspect. Like I said, a game with KI’s focus on monsters needs plenty of monsters to work with, and making a medusa who’s only sometimes a medusa seems so backwards.
Imagine playing Sabrewulf if he only turned into a werewolf during Instinct. Even if you kept the rest of his gameplay the same, wouldn’t that make him less interesting and unique?
I finally have an answer to this question. Why would a gorgon wear a mask to stop her natural stone gaze effect?
In the lore provided by @xSkeletalx she is living with a tribe of other gorgon (I think that’s technically the plural). In movies like Clash of the Titans (the old one, since I don’t remember the new one) if they see their reflection they die. Not only that, but if they were living with each other, they wouldn’t want to just be randomly petrifying one another. It would be proper and required by their law that they had to wear masks, otherwise they’d all be dead. As a near dead species, that would probably be best for their own survival.
When Cinder’s Burnout is in effect on your character, you can clearly tell because of the burning visual effect.
I’d like to see something similar for Slither’s Venom, maybe a haze of green smoke curling around your character. That would easily tie into the idea of poison or venom, as well as the green smoke in the new KI Season 3 logo, assuming that wasn’t just something to connect with Rash.
I was also thinking about how to balance Venom in order to make sure it doesn’t get overused. I think that rather than allow multiple Venom Enders to stack up guaranteed damage endlessly, they should function similar to the “fan the flames” mechanic on Cinder’s Burnouts. A specific amount of health WILL be taken away from the opponent, and the amount is displayed on their health bar visually, kind of like an inverse “Potential Damage” white bar. Each time you complete a Venom Ender, the poisoned section of their health bar is refilled to it’s maximum amount.
This means that having a delay between Venom Enders will effectively maximize the amount of health the Venom will take away over time, whereas doing constant opener->Venom ender will be very inefficient, particularly if the Ender doesn’t do much damage itself.
I was implying more the idea that in general the color green is associated with poison in video games, and remember that Slither is more akin to a snake than a toad or a frog.
There are certainly many colors of poisonous snake, as well.
I think the name ‘Slither’ is a little uninspired. Similar to if a toad was named Bumpy, a bird named Peck, or a bear named Growl. However, I **fully **support the idea of a Medusa-like character.
Yeah we’ve been through this discussion before with someone earlier in the thread, with almost the exact same argument. Several characters in KI have names which indicate something about them already:
Spinal the skeleton
Sabrewulf the werewolf
Riptor the velociraptor
Glacius the ice alien
I personally think Slither fits perfectly within their precedent - the name isn’t Snakey, or Snake-a, but Slither gives you an idea of what she is just by the name itself.
Yeah I got ya, but those other characters were given those names in the 90’s, which is why they seem so silly/tacky today.
It would be awesome if her animations looked like stop-motion like the old movies. I can’t picture if this movement style would look cool in a video game, or if it would just look like poor animation.
I like the poison idea too. I posted the same concept for Cinder before he came out, hoping he would have DoT burning moves that worked like that. Eventually, KI will have a DoT character of some kind. Just a matter of time… SF5 hopped on that ship with Fang it looks like.
Thanks for everyone’s interest in my idea! This goes for my fellow forum members, as well as Adam.
I’ve had a lot of fun imagining what a gorgon could be in the KI universe, and it would really be special to see one in Season 3, whether my suggestion really had anything to do with the character or not! Although to be honest, I would always pretend I was able to influence the devs, because it sounds cool! On that note, @TempusChaoti and @TheKeits; The KI dev team has full permission from me to use any of the ideas I’ve posted in this thread in order to make a gorgon character a reality, if there’s ever a time you’re considering it! (I know S3 has been decided, but maybe one of the characters IS a gorgon, or maybe you’ll look for some ideas for Season 4!)
Sadly, I am not a real designer, artist, or animator. I have seen other community ideas for characters with accompanying, skillful drawings of the character, and I think it really adds to what they have come up with. I would love to do the same so that I could share what Slither looks like and moves like in my head with all of you.
Here’s hoping S3 brings us a scaly, cold blooded surprise in March!
