- I prefer breaking/baiting fast shadow linkers/counter breakers
- I prefer breaking/baiting slow shadow linkers/counter breakers
On the subject of shadow breaking in another topic, I thought what people were more inclined to break/bait certain shadow moves over others. Like say for example, someone prefers to break glacius’ shadow cold shoulder over jago’s shadow laser sword. Or vice versa when it comes to baiting shadow breakers.
I prefer slow. Fast is easier sure. However the mind game isn’t as great. In slow, you can break 1,2 and wait for the opponent to see and randomly break 3,4,or 5. This is much more fun. This makes it more intense.
This is actually a tough and interesting question. I voted for the fast ones because, ultimately I think they fit with the game. I can break (and enjoy breaking) some but not all of the slow ones. This is much easier now that I have a low latency monitor, but I feel that a lot of the slow moves are needlessly opaque and confusing in the break pattern you have to follow. I don’t know why Jago’s wind kick is so challenging. Ditto Hisako’s Shadow Rekka and Rash’s ram. And often they don’t seem to match well with what you’re seeing in screen. Maya’s backflip is very good, in my opinion, in that it takes some skill but it’s obvious what you need to do.
I think asking people to lab every shadow move is just unnecessary. Especially in a game that is deliberately low execution for most things.

It goes both ways for me. I like to bait fast shadow moves because they are so easy to counter break, that it’s easy to fool someone to think you’re going to break. However when it comes to slow shadows, I like to break them because they are easier to time each hit allowing you to change your breaking pattern better.
I can never break Sako’s shadow Rekka. Sometimes I think its because of my TV but then I’m able to break Wind Kicks, Flik-Flaks, Tumble Kicks all quite well so there’s something I’m getting wrong there. Infil’s guide, here I come.
On topic, I like a bit of both. Depends on the match and the player.

For some reason I can consistently 3-4-5 Hisako’s shadow rekka, despite the delay on the 5th hit. I recall someone on the IG stream making a specific mention of the delay, factoring it in the very first time I tried to break it, and nailing it that very first time.
I’m pretty happy with the extra frames added to the break windows in shadow linkers for season 3. I was struggling with the mechanic in season 2, but I can usually break most shadow linkers now without really practicing, as long as I’m not stupid about it. I still lean towards 3-4-5 breaks, though, which is a bad habit.
I just break which ever or bait which ever.
