Shadow Lords TOO HARD!

This is a great (albeit long) post. Just a couple of points.

For people who enjoy it, SL is great. But lots of people DON’T like Binding of Isaac, because it isn’t that interesting to play and it is punishingly hard. Why play that when you could play Rise of the Tomb Raider or Doom or something else? My favorite Roguelike is FTL which I play on iPad. The gameplay is fun and interesting and actually to my eye has clearly had at least a little bit of influence on SL. But you get to the end and the killer alien armada just crushes you. And it takes HOURS of surviving through a modicum of skill and lots of dumb luck just to get there. So I have fought it twice and never gone back. I actually did better the first time through - so the idea that you can prepare for the fight with your knowledge is pretty thin. You develop a strategy but then you don’t run into any spaceships that drop a teleporter (for example) and you are SOL.

The difference between Gargos and Shadow Jago is that boss Shago kills your hour while you repeatedly fight him developing the luck/skill to win. Gargos wrecks your day because a SL run takes many hours and you may even need to spend a week doing practice runs.

I’m not suggesting it needs to be changed. I’m just making the point that there is absolutely no reason to believe that everyone is going to like it. And not liking it doesn’t make you a scrubby complainer. As far as earning the stage, if you want the stage beat Gargos. Or, go do something you like more instead.

Hey, just a quick FYI in case you didn’t realize this, but you can do a “boss rush” on normal (well any difficulty honestly) and just fight omens & then Gargos to learn his new BS tricks (which are all extremely slow & predictable after you start recognizing them). I know it’s not quite the same as going straight back into fighting boss Shago, but it does save time over trying to play the mode straight & close all the portals possible.

Anyway, that’s what I did to unlock the Astral Plane…got some practice on normal and then rushed him on challenging.

I just wish some of these guys would just admit that they don’t like SL and all they want is the stage.
It is not that it is so difficult they can’t win, they just don’t want to spend the time to do it.

Here is what they really want, a Gargos so easy that they can skip right to him and beat him with all his buffs in less than 5 min, and get the stage. Then will never touch SL again.

Yup. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

No offense, @SadisticRage76 and @SonicDolphin117 but you’re better off not telling people what it is that they want. I’ve already put about ten hours into Shadow Lords, don’t give two ■■■■■ about the stage, and find Gargos annoying as hell.

Now, I know that statement does not fit all, but I am sure it fits over half of the people that want the stage. The reason I feel so certain about this is because, it is always about just the stage and nothing else. I don’t see complaints about the cost of the packs. If the packs were a little cheaper, then they could buy guardians and other items faster. I don’t see complaining about the resources, and how it takes 2 or 3 different types of resources to make most effective items.

I have posted several times trying to help people in SL mode. I have explained that it gets easier the more you play because of resources and guardians.

The problem is that some people are to impatient to take the time to play the mode, and want a quick way to unlock the stage.

We’re not talking about everybody here. But the mimic skins being purchased in 2 seconds after the mode released is pretty good evidence that what we’re saying isn’t all that out there.

I just fought gargos on normal before leaving for work today and was getting ready for a hard battle, turns out he barely even moves or attacks you it was kind of disappointing honestly.

Pretty much. And for the most part, if you are resourceful and attentive, you don’t even need to craft items either. The only ones I craft are common infinite shadow or unblockable attacks to use in a pinch that’s it. I didn’t craft any of my 15 odorous hearts, or any of my revive items or healing scrolls. Shadow Lords is easy on normal and challenging if you’re prepared. Godlike is the only one where you will find it painful. It isn’t about the buffs or stats of missions, it is the AI difficulty level. Normal Gargos sucks at breaking and locks out a lot, so poison and unblockables = you win. Challenging breaks sometimes, but locks out on manuals, godlike breaks rather well, so 1 chance breaks are almost a must but, there isn’t an item in godlike you cannot get in normal. The only and I mean only reward locked by difficulty is the stage. So you are right on the money.

WOW… So many hateful messages. I thought this community was a great one… ANYWAYS, I beat Gargos today. I had 2 Killer Guardians and 1 Epic. Having the right Guardians and consumables makes a huge difference. Thank you all that helped with HELPFUL tips and tricks and thank you all the haters for the support. #PlayKI

No, since most people wouldnt give 2 fks about this game mode

Probably not. Since then there would be no reward for completing the mode therefore no bickering. 90% chance that would happen.

I personally liked that fact that it was hard. It made you come up with a strategy to beat him and the modes. I don’t like the fact that they made it easier. If you can’t beat it then get better. Figure out ways to achieve. There are plenty of resources on the web. People are acting like they have to look in an EGM magazine (back in the day) or need some sort of game genie code to win (also back in the day). Train and play. Earn astral gems by playing and buy guardians. Some work better on certain characters and against certain characters. Experiment and have fun with it. I didn’t beat him on the first try but I’m glad I was able to before they changed it. Now if you want to talk about an almost impossible boss fight Marie 300% in Skull Girls. I still haven’t beat that battle. However, I love that the challenge is still there. There’s a sort of real satisfaction when you win after a long time taking to defeat a boss. Anyway enjoy playing!

And this is the reason why they locked the stage. Blame them. Microsoft/IG knew this was going to happen and that didn’t want their efforts wasted.

Let me straighten one thing out. I love this game mode. It’s really fun and I’m l’m still playing it. I already beat the Challenging mode and after doing so I’m still playing SL for entertainment. I also want to unlock all mimic skins and content. I’m not going to stop playing SL or KI in general. I have a put so much time into this game and have been a fanboy since 1994. Everyone needs to relax and chill out. I was simply voicing my opinion and I’m getting crucified for it. Bottom line, I love Killer Instinct and Shadow Lords is awesome. #PlayKI

Honestly aside from a few snarky comments early on, I haven’t seen anything to this effect, and certainly not directed at you, and definitely not enough to call crucifixion. You gotta keep in mind, tone is hard to convey in text, and what a writer says that is intended to be friendly and jovial can easily be misconstrued as hateful and brash, especially without corresponding tone and body language that would usually easily signal the differences. Side effect of the internet.

Also with Shadow Lords release, as with most updates, there has been a flood of people that get on the forums to do nothing but complain & moan about every facet of it, and sometimes comments from someone struggling such as you get lost in a sea of trolling.

Anyway, it’s cool that you like the mode. & Hey, if you want a somewhat easier (relative term I know) and faster method to unlock the “beat gargos” skins, go onto normal and fight nothing but omens and gargos. It shouldn’t require too many resources, and after a while you’ll figure out Gargos’s new tricks (FYI, the new ones specific to boss Gargos are mostly really slow & predictable once you know what to look for) and he’ll be sooo easy.

Keep in mind this advice is coming from a killer ranked Gargos main and the current #1 on the SL leaderboard for normal, I just wanted to preface that so you’d know that I know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, keep having fun playing KI.

Today i finished challenging SL, is not as hard as some people make it sound, killed gargos with a snake thunder and a vampire rash, both with wolf heart, i had a ram spinal with elixir of focus waiting but he wasnt needed.

And yes, now that i unlocked the stage and bought spinal’s mimic skin with KI gold i will never touch that game mode again

Ok…Im Fn pissed off! I spent all week slowly making my way to Gargos on Challenging (To unlock Omen mimic skin and Astral plane). Debuffed him completely besides the buff he gets when he arrives.

He gets Fn Fang of Gargos and takes out my life bar in 2 hits and that cheap ■■■ Stone skin explosion! That damn thing takes like 60%!!!

So im down to my last character make an amazing comeback…ULTRA his cheap asss and he Fn gets up and has a new life bar! WTF???

Im so salty right now its not even funny. F this game and F shadow lords… Im not playing the damn thing until all the bugs are fixed and the difficulty is toned down.

If I didnt have to make my way all the way back to Gargos (which takes days when you are an adult and cant play games all day and night.)…if I could just rematch him I wouldn’t be pissed at all. But to start over and go through another 17 TURNS…NOPE…not doing it. I dont like the mode that much to ever play it again.

Sincerely Salty as Fukkk
