He calls them “basic” - please…
If they were so basic, then how come you can’t just reliably ask any regular Joe Schmoe what it is and have them explain it to you? The truth of the matter is that regardless of whether it’s broken or not, this is tech that is not known by the general public at large. It’s only known to those who delve deep into the FG genre and who are willing to dedicate a significant amount of time into it. That is STILL in no uncertain terms, an unfair advantage.
Here’s my thing - I hate it. when FGs don’t explain the entirety of their mechanics openly.
Now, I realize that you can’t cover absolutely everything, but something like this I think deserves its own dojo lesson (or something similar) in KI. When it comes to moves and such, back in Mortal Kombat and Injustice, for example, I hated how certain special moves had properties that weren’t explained ANYWHERE in the game itself (my aforementioned b+P; b, f+K example was a part of that) - you had to figure it out for yourself or look elsewhere. The fact that KI took a lot of that and explained it with frame data, move properties, etc. is something that I have loved about KI - you KNOW what every move is capable of doing - it’s just a matter of applying it in different scenarios effectively - that’s where the mind games that make KI such a strong FG come in.
I mean come on, if option selects have been around forever, and is relatively common in many FGs, how come you don’t hear more about this kind of thing within the FGs, in general, themselves?
I feel kind of like FGs have always short-changed us in this regard. It’s like they’ll give you the tricycle with the training wheels so you can learn how to ride the bike, but the bike itself ends up missing 1 of the training wheels, so those of us who lack the experience, know-how, or that don’t know where to look can’t learn how to actually ride the bike because they don’t know how to fix it (the child in this case = inexperienced FG players); but those who have those tools (the parents = veteran FG players) can use them to fix it.
I want this kind of thing to be open to everyone from the source (the FG, or KI in this case) - not something that’s obscurely hidden within the tournament scene or obscure web-page forums where only a minority of the FG population uses it, much less even knows/sees/hears about it.
That to me is wrong. If the devs at IG want to expand the FG genre by making KI more accessible, I think that this is certainly 1 way to do it.
