Firstly if there is already a topic on this my apologies.
So I made a video about this basically asking if the game is worth a try? I was watching some footage on Mixer and it seemed kinda like Minecraft in space? I’m not really expecting Mass Effect style combat or anything, has anyone played it since the NEXT update?
Well, you compared it to Minecraft. Minecraft has a goal. Sure, you can build and craft to your heart’s content, but the deeper you dig in, the more you unlock and in the end you can upgrade yourself to fight on the Netherdragon in the Void (I think that’s what it is called).
In No Man’s Sky there’s none of that. You gather and craft, but there’s no goal. You jump from planet to planet and do the same thing over and over again. It’s repetitive and boring, and there’s no creativity in it as there is with Minecraft.
The Next update is just that now you can do it in multiplayer, something they promised would be in the game from the very start. It’s a little too late for that though, imo.
Just for the record, when Minecraft first came out there was no nether, no nether dragon no ending and no long term goal. The only goal was to not get killed when the sun went down and it actually played more like a survival game. It gave you almost no information on how to play and figuring out what you could build and how to build it etc. was a really interesting experience. Your first night was usually spent waiting in a plain dirt box for the sun to come up again. And the point was to survive and discover more about the gameworld - just for the purpose of hanging out there and enjoying it.
I think this is the comparison people are making with No Man’s Sky. It’s not about the destination it’s about the journey and all that. For the record, I’m not a huge Minecraft fan and I doubt I will try No Man’s Sky - certainly I can’t say if it’s “worth it.” I just thought I would share my thoughts on the conversation.
I’d say wait until it goes on sale. Not really worth the $50. If it was on game pass or something, I would say it is worth it but not really for $50. It depends on how much value you put on going to different planets and viewing different landscapes.
