My 8 Bit Beatdown Experience

So after completing in my first 8 Bit Beatdown match (I only played 2) I feel that I have to commit A LOT more time into this game then I have been. My first match up well…you see I…I’ll just show you…

So…after I faced a KI God, I faced this guy @STORM179 in Losers. Needless to say I got mopped the floor with. I’m happy to say in very excited and hope to compete more in the beatdown butt also don’t want to go 0-4. Anyone got advice?

Really the only thing you can do is play strong opponents. Ask @STORM179 for a first to 10, and ask many other seasoned players for the same. Get used to playing, and used to the matchups. The only way to get better, is to play the best.

I also recommend watching the best. If you play a character that a good streamer uses, watch that player and see how they approach that character. Take note of setups and tech, but also just how they approach the neutral and defense.

Well said!

I also went 0-4 my first time in 8BBD but I was completely unprepared. I haven’t gone back but watching pro players helps both strengthen my defense against their mains and my gameplan. Also, just keep at it in ranked, experience makes you miles better.

I got Draman Kuritani and promptly got my ■■■■ handed to me 0-2, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Kan-ra was banned from the tournament, along with Glacius (two of Sleep’s characters). In tournament, Sleep played Arbiter and ARIA…on stream at least.

Shame, I have been using Kan Ra myself recently. I did not even know about the HUGE bug with him before I looked it up. It has yet to happen to me in a match.

One thing I’ll say is watch a lot of footage of these top players and pick out their habits. Back a few months ago when Pink Diamond kept getting to finals and losing to Paul I caught on to the fact that she kept doing medium linkers, so when I bumped into her on ranked a few hours after the tournament I kept an eye out for those medium linkers and sure enough there they were for me to break. Same thing with Gutter, I watched his streams and I noticed he loves doing overhead resets with Thunder, so I kept blocking high during his combos and bam, I was able to shadow counter punish when he went for the overhead. Granted I still lose most of my matches against these top players but I can now occasionally take a round or two on them or the very least get some good damage on their second health bars so watching them play does help improve your chances against them.

Just keep playing. I’m not great but I’ve won some 8bitbeatdown matches in the past. Spread the word get some more new players to sign up, it’s free and a great experience. It’s free for everyone and the pro players who join don’t seem to be bothered by having some free fodder to mow through. I’ve yet to really see an elitist attitude from those who are playing. In the few times that I’ve played in it I’ve almost always come out of it with a friend or two to continue playing matches with.

Good Luck.

Why were Kan-Ra and Glacius banned?

Look at the tournament forums. I think they had bugs or something from what I can remember.

Glacius has a bug where you can’t jump his shatter during some set ups. Normally during “pre-jump frames” you can’t be hit by the shatter, but in the current built you can. Thus right now Glacius has some inescapable, unblockable set ups.

Kan-ra has a game braking bug regarding his scarabs and every projectile in the game. Apparently during the startup of his scarabs, if the scarabs and the projectile collide, the game goes haywire.

No he had the arbitor. I can post the match if you like.
