Where was he referred to as such? Multiplayer intro dialogue? I don’t recall this being said in Story Mode.
I remember it distinctly being said in the story mode and in a couple of the pre-fight dialogue.
I’ll actually be replaying Story Mode soon, so I’ll keep a listen for it.
Pre-fight dialogue should always be taken with a grain of salt.
Related to Mortal Kombat in general, Mortal Kombat (2011) turns ten years old today. It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since it launched; such an amazing, influential game.
Ketchup posted a video for the milestone here: 10 Years of MK9 - How One Game changed EVERYTHING - YouTube
To top it off 2011 was one of the best years of my life which adds to the good memories of this game.
Yeah, it’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years. MK9 is still one of my all-time favorite fighting games. So damn good!
Yes it was. The story was great. Only flaw to me was how Reptile was treated, but I still hope he gets better treatment in a future story.
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed with Reptile in terms of his look and how he was treated as well. Hopefully he’ll be given a bigger role in the future. After all, Baraka had his day in MK11, so maybe one day Reptile will get his along with Kabal (I hated that they made him into a bad guy).
Reptil’s look wasn’t the issue for me. I never had a problem with any of his looks. Though the MK4 design was my least favorite from the outfits stand point sense purple was not a good look for his outfit. heck the MKX design is one of my favorites next to the MK2, MK3, and DA design.
My issue was in the story. He lost to stryker and got his butt kicked repeatedly, and I don’t think any design you give him would’ve changed that outcome. So I do hope he gets better treatment in a future story. Maybe give him a chapter for once.
He had to loose though, as he was not a playable character in Story Mode.
Well ya I get that. I just felt they could’ve treated him better. Baraka got his time to shine so Reptile should be given a shot too.
Even with that the story for MK9 was amazing. I’ve never played a story as frequently as that one.
I don’t know, Baraka got beat on pretty good, and shown that he wasn’t too bright. Mortal Kombat 11 did him a lot more justice, just as Mortal Kombat X did for Reptile.
Welp I saw the movie.
What do I think of it over all? its good.
there are parts where it does better than the 90s movie and parts where it doesn’t/
So… Who still thinks there will be a Kombat Pack 3? I’m not so sure I do.
Yeah… there is a chance, a small one, that they were really hit hard by the pandemic and they had way more work before it started done on Aftermath and Pack 2 and this is just taking a bit longer, and we TECHNICALLY still haven’t reached the point where it’s been the longest gap between Kombat Packs yet… but I’m not sure we’re getting anything. Which is a real shame because the character select screen is still uneven and that bothers the hell out of me!
Real shame. A lot of the leaks looked really cool and promising. Oh well.
Heck, maybe they just decided to roll KP3 and KP4 into one and that’s why it’s taking so long, because they want to release it all together.
As the game is now over 2 years old, I’m kinda thinking it’s done. Maybe I’m wrong but I would have thought they would have done something when the new movie came out.
Traditionally speaking, NetherRealm Studios releases two retail versions of their games: the launch version, and then a “Komplete” version.
Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition, Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat XL, and now we have Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate.
Past the second retail release, they’ve never released additional characters for a game, only balance updates and skins.
While I’d love a new Story Mode and additional characters, I expect the game is more or less finished and we’ll see one more major balance update later this year, and perhaps a few more skin packs.
So I saw the “Mortal Kombat” movie and it was…okay.
I like Reptile’s design, just not as Reptile (I think personally it would have been a better Riptor than what we have in the 2013 game). The costumes largely look great, especially Kung Lao’s (I think the actor playing him did a good job capturing MK2 Kung Lao).
It was cool seeing Nitara, but man did they do her dirty. Her, along with Kabal, Reiko and Goro. I was actually surprised by how much I liked Kano here, so much so that I actually wanted him to be more of an antihero than as a straight-up villain.
Cole…he’s just…so…boring. He really is like one of those Mary Sues that you see in badly-made fanfictions where characters do each other in the butt. The guy literally has plot armor lol. And the filmmaker thought that replacing Johnny Cage with this loser was a bright idea! Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against original characters…provided that they’re done well.
Sub-Zero - awesome costume with some good moments of lethality, but man he has to be the worst ninja assassin of all time. I didn’t like that he was responsible for the murder of Scorpion’s family.
Scorpion - I think Hiroyuki Sanada was really good in the role. I think my biggest complaint was that his role is so short and brief.
Acting overall was…okay, but Josh Lawson really stole the show as Kano, which is a huge shame.
Story was…okay, but extremely inconsistent in its tone. The first five minutes were fantastic, but from that point forward, it just went downhill.
Some of the cinematography was decent, but there were definitely a LOT of rough edges, some of it looking downright amateurish. Outworld just felt so visually boring to look at. So generic.
Reiko…what the @#$%?! I think Nathan Jones would have been terrific as Shao Kahn, but man what a miscast! And his fight with Jax - @#$% off!
Visually, Shang Tsung’s costume is fantastic - it really looks like something a Chinese warlord could wear. In terms of the actor, though, compared to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the new one is pretty bland and generic. No menace or air of authority, no sense of regal elegance.
I see a LOT of influence taken from the MK Legacy series, and while it was cool seeing some of the Easter Eggs from the games that alluded to certain characters, the movie’s biggest problem is that it is a fan film in every sense of the word - it’s very reliant on people’s familiarity of the game series and kind of just assumes people know who these characters are or what they’re talking about. Not only that, but there’s no tournament - it really feels like it’s trying to create a cinematic universe or something like the ‘Avengers’ movies, leading up to that eventually. The fights are pretty good, but there wasn’t really that ‘wow’ factor that made me get up from my seat and cheer. It was cool seeing certain moves replicated onscreen along with the Fatalities, but I think the 95 movie was better personally in the fight department, with a much, MUCH better soundtrack.
As a whole, I’d probably give this a 6 out of 10. It’s better than “Annihilation”, but I wouldn’t say that it’s superior to the first movie. Probably as good as, if not just slightly worse.
My brother thought the reptile design was okay just needed the ninja cloths. I personally felt they could’ve given him that as well. just give him the ninja outfit with his cloths and it will be fine.
Keep in mind I don’t mind how they make reptile look as long as his design also reflects his sotry. as in he must always have his reptilians traits present.
I think the reason for his not wearing clothes had to do with the difficulty in animating fabrics or budget. If he had a white lab coat on, I think the design would have passed for Curt Connor’s the Lizard (one of my favorite Spiderman characters).
I’m kind of the same, although I don’t think this movie did Reptile any favors. It’s a cool design, just not Reptile imo, kind of like how 2013 Riptor is not Riptor but “Stalker” (…well…maybe not that bad in comparison).
