M/\ss Effect Andromeda Gameplay

I’ve never played a Mass Effect game and I’m starting to regret it now.

The gameplay mechanics looks so amazingly polished and explored. It certainly looks more fun to me than most modern shooters.

Though I hope this wasn’t a trade-off for their widely praised dialogue system along with character personalities. Fallout 4 did that and it didn’t sit so well for dedicated fans.

I cannot stress how much you need to play the original trilogy. I decided to pick up the first one a couple weeks ago and fell in love with it and bought the others as well in preparation for andromeda. The series as a whole is just a lot of fun and the third tugs at the old heart strings. My only gripe so far is that the soundtrack falls a bit flat until number 3 that’s when they got their ■■■■ together. Overall I highly recommend it.

Mass Effect is, bar none, my favorite game franchise of the 21st century. Just a fantastic series all around, and probably going to be the first game to truly pull me away from KI when it comes out.

The games aren’t perfect (the first one in particular shows its age), but it’s one of the most engrossing and interesting series I’ve ever played.

Ooooh! So Excited! Mass Effect is one of my most favorite series of all time! Can’t wait!

So far the one thing that I don’t like about andromeda is that you can’t choose what species you are in the single player campaign. Always wanted to play through the lives of a turian or asari but what the hell as long as they’re included in the story then I don’t mind.

I’m still on the fence regarding this game, because it is different (no Shephard), but there’s no denying the sheer quality involved with its design and presentation.

I have fairly good hopes for this one, especially after the developers said they’re improving their side-quests from their last major game and are taking cues from The Witcher 3.

I really like that they’re starting fresh with Andromeda too, leaving behind all the bad baggage ME3 and its ending created. It was a pretty decent game overall with some great moments (especially in the last DLC with all the fanservice), but it left a bad taste for me with how they handled and concluded the main story arc.

I’m on the same page as most people. Never played these games, but the recent game play footage from this has me interested.

As an ME Fan, my whole world crashed with that ending…

I think I sat in silence for 10 minutes, then ran to the forums to complain lol

I still haven’t beaten ME2, much less ME3 - thanks to BC, I have both; I really should get to it.

I highly recommend it.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed, the sequels improve on pretty much everything in the first game.

I played the original trilogy and liked it quite a bit. I’m the type of person who likes to explore combat and stuff, but I didn’t really do that with ME… I just played soldier in all the games and I felt like I missed half the stuff you can do in combat. Kinda bummed that I never figured out how the combat actually worked in all the games. Never explored biotics (even with my other AI party members) so I never learned about the cool chains you can do.

This game looks cool, though. If it reviews well I’ll probably pick it up and add it to the gigantic list of games in my backlog that I should feel bad about not having played.

Lol. Yeah, if you’ve never run biotic in the ME3 system, you really missed out. Biotic chains and explosions were super fun to pull off, especially in MP where you could have teams jam packed with a bunch of different kits

I really enjoyed the ME trilogy and I honestly didn’t expect to. I think they do an amazing job of balancing the game for people who want to dig deep and for people who want to play through the story without just cranking the knob down to easy. I Thi k sustaining that level of excellence and excitement in story telling through three very big games with dozens of side quests is a really tall order and the biggest problem for 3 was that people expected them to top themselves in a way that just wasn’t possible.

I’m interested in andromeda, at least in part because I’m not a “lore monster.” For my tastes, I actually enjoyed ME3 (even the ending) but the whole universe was starting to wilt a bit under the weight of all the different species, their history and politics etc. it will be interesting to see if they can effectively pay homage to all of that stuff without overburdening the new game with references and lengthy dossiers to read etc.

Peoples’ main problem with ME3 was that it made a lot of bad decisions with the main story arc. ME3 tried to hurriedly wrap up every conflict that existed in the setting even with the massive war over the fate of the galaxy going on, made all the villains look really stupid and contradictory, and made up a bunch of lame answers to the series’ most compelling mysteries. Even beyond the ending, ME3’s story just felt like a rushed and clumsy finale. (Not helped by that fact that ME2 did little to develop the main narrative for the trilogy, pushing a ton of weight on the final act.)

It was a great series overall and even ME3 was still a good game, but unrealistic expectations isn’t why many people felt let down by it in the end.

That’s fine, we can disagree. But I really enjoyed the way they wrapped up most (maybe not all) of the plotlines.

I do think it represents some unrealistic expectation to think that when they reveal what’s behind the curtain for the mysterious galaxy destroying threat that it’s all going to make perfect sense in every way and be badass. I think writers leave things a “mystery” often to avoid having to develop a coherent explanation. I think people convinced themselves that BioWare had some sort of master plan since the day they started working on ME1 as to what this would be, and they expected the final “villain” to be as epic as the whole rest of the game. I really do believe that’s impossible.

The most memorable thing to me about the ME series is sitting on the world map screen and looking at the planets with that awesome music (one of the only songs I can remember from the ME soundtrack). It really makes you feel like you are an explorer of the frontiers of space.

I actually think ME3 did a great job “wrapping up” all the interspecies conflicts and plot lines, and even the ending was fine after they added the EC content. The original ending was bad, full stop (and the ultimate motivation for the reapers was not great to say the least), but I had no complaints with how they resolved the various alien conflict plot lines.

Man…I really need to play that game again. Talking ME is making me want to get lost in that universe again
