Kong: Skull Island

So, things are a might different in the upcoming King Kong reboot.
Check out the trailer to see for yourself.

This one’s set during the Vietnam War, rather than on the cusp of WWII. The story this go 'round is going to have some vastly different complications for the visitors of Skull Island than previous films.

For one, the film is set in the same universe as the recent Godzilla reboot, lining up for a modern reprisal of the Japanese cult classic Godzilla vs King Kong in 2019. To make the fight fair, they’ve scaled up Kong to tower over previous incarnations.
The director notes that in a lot of King Kong related material, island natives worship him as a god, and so he wanted to make a monster big enough to warrant that status.

On another note, the casting has a lot of big names on the billing. Tom Hiddleson stars alongside Samuel L Jackson and John Goodman, for starters.
And I have to say, the musical score sounds pretty great.

So, any of you guys looking forward to this? My brother will no doubt be going to see it whenever our college schedules let up in March.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts, dudes!

Love the trailer, but this part doesn’t feel quite right, IMO. With that said, it became immediately apparent why they did it.

Love the casting - although you forgot to mention the actress; she just won for best actress, so she’s kind of important too.

I don’t remember hearing of her beforehand. I haven’t gone to watch a movie of my own volition in a while (although I did go to see Jungle Book with my little brother and it was enjoyable. That also had good casting) so I’m not as hip with a lot of Hollywood talent.
I think I may recognize her face though, so I reckon she’ll do rather well.

I like it. Maybe it’s just me but I am happy they are going in a different direction with this Kong film. I really don’t need to see the same story told told a 3rd time.

I am and likley always will be team Godzilla, but I love Kong too and am really excited for this film.

While i get that they had to scale him up to fight Godzilla, his size really doesn’t make sense in the environment they put him in.

I like how it sounds on paper. Now if this movie is executed properly then I will get hyped.

I would have expected this to be about the exploration of Skull Island from the previous film (that was the most rad iteration, nothing will ever top it) but this one definitely makes sense if they’re setting up for Kong vs the G man.

I liked the trailer, but I’m not at all interested in the movie or the Kong vs godzilla thing. To me, it’s just Hollywood again showing they’re out of ideas with all these reboots and remakes. That hilariously bad Ghostbusters movie should be a warning. Should (but it’s not they want to make sequels I hear. Kill me now.).

I have the worst feeling that this movie will be nothing more than a pretentious cash in on the name. As much as I don’t want to believe this, I find it difficult considering that Jordan Vogt-Roberts is boosting about the size of King Kong rather than anything different or genuinely interesting from it’s previous iterations.

It honestly feels like it will be at the same level of Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla, where it wasn’t bad, per say… but it failed to live up to so much potential.
